    Great look at the 10m pole , I have the 12m and it looks as heavy duty and more so than other 10m poles thanks Colin!

      Shhhhhhh, Dont tell the Packtenna posse there is a better 10m pole out there ;)

    Great comparison video Colin, I have the 12m spider pole and now employ your method of lower section guying thanks for the tip 👍

      Thanks Paul. I rarely guy the 12m above this. Only when it's quite gusty. I've even had my moxon up in slight wind at the 7m point with no extra guying.

    Great video, I particularly appreciate the guying idea.

    Hi,good video but surely your hose clamps are positioned wrong?? They should be on the thinner part of the pole which stops it collapsing rather than the thicker bit of the pole as you could crack the pole trying to clamp it against the thin piece......73

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, it's right where it is. The purpose of the clamp in question is for guying only, not to clamp one section to another. There is no real "crush" applied. Only enough force to hold in place. If you applied the upper hose clamp to the thinner section you would need a step ladder to extend the pole. Watch this for guying my 12m pole. Same principle th-cam.com/video/qmIARntxXqk/w-d-xo.html

    Good video Colin. The mini looks perfect for using for an HF vertical. 73 Syd

    This is a great pole i love it. The 10m seems a bit stiffer than the 12m at the full length. I think this is because of the shorter parts

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  ปีที่แล้ว

      I like it. Just need the 7m version now.

      @@MM0OPXFieldRadio I use the 10m at full length for my endfed. In the field and at the camping.

    Cheers Colin, I want to get a Spiderbeam , think I will go for the 12 meter one as I have a camper van and a slot for fitting in ⛷ so the big yin will work for me

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The big yin is hard to beat, especially as you say if space and weight isn't an issue.

      12 is like a 1X shirt. They go much bigger!

    Looks pretty good . I got the 12 metre it is a good fit outside a scaffold pole with a wee bit of rubber tape on the scaffold. I have a 40m GP fixed onto it at 10m feed point no guy just 3 swivel brackets on the first scaffold pole with t&k on the house . Looks scoured enough so far only winter storms might have a different idea ?

    I bought one, the only issue for me was the overall diameter of the base section, it no longer fits inside my drive on mast stand. The pole itself as other Spiderbeam products is top notch, can’t fault it. Thanks for posting 👍🏻 all the best Mike.

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure why they decided on the difference base but hey ho. It works well for me as the 2nd section is same diameter as the bottom section of the 12m allowing for easy mounting of the antenna. 73, Colin

      Yes, no issues but the joints will need to be secured and sealed.

    What eyelet do you use on the 10m pole to attach the antenna? Thanks!

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't use an eyelet as such. I'm using this linear loaded so using one of mu adjustiwave top clamp plates which uses a rubber hose clamp which clamps to the Spiderbeam pole.

    How much horizontal pull can be placed on top of pole. Am thinking about running a end feed from this pole to around 30m horizontal so there might be some tension needed to stop line sagging?

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  ปีที่แล้ว

      I cant quantify that. It will be better than a standard lightweight pole but yesnit may need counter tensioning.

    Looks like jubilee clips are in the wrong place, should be above joint not below it

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean but its fine how it is. This allows you to extend the pole vertically while guyed first.

  • @kabish0603
    @kabish0603 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your clamps are installed incorrectly and goes against the manufactures recommendation. The way you have them installed could actually damage the mast. The clamps should go above the seam, that prevents it from sliding down. Clamping it below the seem is squeezing the mast and can cause issues.

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they are installed correctly for their function. These clamps are not used the purposes of guying and there is only minimum pressure. What your talking about I'm well aware of and do this too

    • @kabish0603
      @kabish0603 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MM0OPXFieldRadio You do you, I was just mentioning for others that might watch. Per the manufacture:
      "Simply put one clamp at the very bottom end of each tube segment and tighten the clamp."
      Your clamp is at the top of the segment. You need to extend the segment then put the clamp at the bottom of that segment. That prevents it from sliding down with very little force being applied. Trying to squeeze the segment below can cause damage. For guying I don't think it really matters so long as you don't crank it down.

    • @MM0OPXFieldRadio
      @MM0OPXFieldRadio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We won't agree on this. What the manufacturer is recommending is a completely different application from what I am doing here. I am using the clamp for guying only and there is minimum pressure applied. I put all my poles up vertically with the bottom section guyed already. I've done this for years and not had 1 pole section break. This isn't my first rodeo. To stop the pole sections collapsing I use Coroplast tape (look it up) or use thr hose clamp with PVC hose as per manufacturers. How others guy theirs is entirely up to themselves and best of luck.
