I don't blame you for not doing these types of installs anymore unless people wants to bring the green backs. The best install I've ever seen to date.. Thanks for educating us!
I remember back in the days of Shootouts some guy named "33 from NJ" showed up with a car that had the back seat removed and hollowed out to the trunk. He had a giant AC Tube Powered Amp, said it was a 50KW tube. Opened the Hood and there were AC Alternators going completely around the front of the Engine. His antenna was a Solid Copper (looked like a ground rod) on the back of his sedan. He said the antenna would get shorter over time! He went up against someone in our area that did 6KW dead Key. Before they lined up he got out of his car and suggested that everyone disconnects their antennas. The watergate tape they played at the award ceremony was amazing, he said "33 and I just Keyed" there was not even a scratch in the background. Everyone then wanted to see his set up. He put a Bird Meter on the roof of the car and said NOBODY GET NEAR THE ANTENNA OR TOUCH THE CAR! Keyed up and dead keyed 33 Thousand watts, several people saw it including myself. The engine wend from a high rev and struggled. After that everyone in Boston started switching to AC Amps in the mobiles. Those were some good times. :-)
Mr BBI. What an amazing build, very very sweet. Thanks for all the knowledge that you share for free. Most people charge for that kind of knowledge. Stay safe and have a very blessed evening.

I been having the same problem with my LED headlights interfering with my receive. I’ve added ferrite chokes at the LED drivers and it helped. I can use my radio driving at night now but there is still interference. Is that type 37 you put on the truck computer harness just a size of ferrite? Is it 37mm. Killer mobile setup!!
The rear defroster..that’s genius!!!! Makes total sense. I just went and unplugged mine. I never use it and one less “antenna” to bring RFI. Thank you BBI!!!

beautiful install (and truck overall!) also just wanted to say thanks for your road trip video's with some of the legends or radio, I've been 10-7 for a decade, but gotta say you have me wanting to invest in AM again!
This gave me flashbacks to an old issue of "Popular Communications" (Tom Kneitel) from the early 90's. It featured these Suburbans etc set up like yours, multiple alternators and huge amplifiers etc with the technology of that era. That was a great magazine, before the internet. I looked forward to receiving it every month. 😀
Thanks again.. I’m rolling in a 2019 Kenworth T880 and learn much from your videos on about how to better my system.. Ranger X9, wired direct to battery, decent Monkey Made clone off the passenger curb mirror..
This was the video i was waiting for. I just wanted to see the radio, amp and antenna installed. Lets say the end result after learning about grounding and wiring. This is a great setup you have there!
Cool Thanks man! A lot of people don't realize just how much power they're dealing with and just how dangerous it is. Don't let your local stereo installer attempt this, they'll burn your vehicle to the ground. This is kind of insane for a mobile mount, and I appreciate how difficult this was. Take care Luke! 73's VA6 CLA P.S. I need to know the secret sauce for the Strykers! LOL. now I'm going searching for it!
If it doesn't fall through I will be buying a Yukon and am rewatching this before I put any holes in it. Should be better to ground than my truck. I know from watching this and your facebook that I have RF coming back into the cab and freaking out my gauges. Driving a diesel 1 ton daily as a work truck is beating it and my wallet to death. I am going to have to do some digging. I would like to see all the radio and electronic installs. I have done all my own car stereo stunts since I was a kid and have the hearing to prove it but all the little things to make it look really good is what I need. This will be something big enough and rugged enough that I can comfortably pack the stuff I need in the back, throw a ladder up on the roof and take it up a narrow deer trail (in some places so narrow a rear wheel is hanging off a 10ft drop by the road or out into a cowpasture. Something I can haul my mini horse in the back to take them visiting, pile 4 big people in it to go to the store in an ice storm and still clean up nicely as a business and personal truck I can pull up to my clients not looking like farmer Bob and when they look inside they see a shining example of the quality of work that I do. That and it will low key look like an official vehicle with a bunch of low pro antennas on it.
Thats a bad ass truck, would cost a fortune to run here in England, we pay around $2.00 per litre, 4.5litres to a gallon, so $8.00 a gallon(ish). And you thought your fuel prices in the US were high because they've just gone up. Still a lovely ride though, I'll go watch the video now 😉🇬🇧
Great clean install, big cable for big toys, very useful information about rf problem ( and have same pump issue on my 07 mustang gt, low fule pressure problem from rear defroster) can't use hf!/cb radio think some led hid highlight problem,, now only use only my ham radio tmd700... 73 iz3qvb from Italy... Most of the solution have used in my JKU (2.8 diesel rf machine!!!) cb in Italy still only for offroad ( 70% have it, 10 ham and last no radio comms) ciao!
You could have your copper plates, where the 500mil wire comes and connects, laser engraved for pos/neg…..instead of the label maker…fun to upgrade as you go..
Your videos are great very informative I have always been into car audio so I got the power covered I'm installing my first amp for my cb soon im learning allot thank you!

Luke, like I said before, that is one sweet ride. About the super caps, I would love to fit Baby Doll (my truck) with a set. Is there a guide I can read to decide what is best for her? Being able to start on a frosty morning after a long weekend in Pennsylvania is a definite plus. Would like to know what other benefits it could have.
So! Is this thing all set up for AM or SSB? Because they are different! I NEED to know! I'm currently running a Cobra 148GTL, early Philippine mfg, (has all the components) using a RM KL-400 amp that provides 300PEP on SSB and around 150 AM watts in my car. But, I could use more power. What do you suggest?
That's a beautiful suburban great install. What lengths of coax go between the radio and amp and meter did that help at all with RF getting into anything?
