  • In this video, watch producer Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) as he tracks at UA’s Studio 610, exclusively through Apollo interfaces and their included Realtime Analog Classics plug-in bundle.
    Read the full interview with Joey about this session here: u.audio/2KtnOfE
    While tracking “Colossus of Rhodes” by A.C. Newman of The New Pornographers, Joey Waronker demonstrates how easy it is to create album quality records with Apollo interfaces and UAD plugins.
    For this tracking session, Joey choose plug-ins that are included on UA’s Analog Classics Pro Bundle. Specifically, he uses the Teletronix LA-2A Classic Leveler, 1176 Compressor, and the UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collections. Joey walks through each instrument and explains where each plug-in is used along with the settings and thought process behind his choices. He also explains some of his mic choices for drums, bass, guitars and ends the session by tracking a string quartet.
    All of the tracks you hear are unmixed, raw, and were recorded in realtime through Apollo interfaces with no additional processing. “The fact that the UAD preamps and EQs are truly reacting and responding as you’re recording like the original hardware units is pretty incredible.”

    Why are people here complaining that mics are expensive, the room is treated, the players have talent, etc?? Those are things people should really try having anyways. All the money you save on outboard compressors, pres, eqs, and effects should make it so you have no excuse but buy great mics and treatments. Get over it

    Thanks for an informative and entertaining video/tutorial. There's value in having good gear, especially mic's and outboard gear. If I can pass on any suggestion to young musicians is when you're ready to step up then step right up. Don't waste your money on 'clones' which cost pennies to make in certain countries. Watch and listen to video's like this where professionals are at work.

    Do you have to use the console app or can you still utilize the dsp but load the plugs to your daw?

    • @UniversalAudio

      Hi Scene, no, you do not need to use Console to use the plugins in your DAW. Only for processing live inputs.

    • @SceneOfAction
      @SceneOfAction 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UniversalAudio Ah. So if you want to print the processing into your daw from the live feed, you use console. Otherwise, you can put it as a vst in your daw. But you do confirm that either way the unit's dsp chip still processes the plugin regardless?

    I am so confused. Am I the only one who sees that we're running a -3 output with the kick drum @1:31 and we're clipping when he's mixing the floor tom @2:31, and then magically, when @2:58 rolls around, all of our levels are a perfect -15ish? Is the session drummer generating a difference of 17db (possibly - no way of telling because the floor tom clipped) between his reference transients and his actual playing of the record? What I'm saying is that the levels mixed pre recording seemed louder than the actual record that was printed. How did the session engineer attenuate these levels? Am I crazy? @universalaudio

    Well, I don't get that this isn't a fair representation of what the interface can do. The mics on the drums aren't really THAT fancy and I see no super outrageously expensive gear used here other than that 67 either. Lots of great records have been made with just a Neumann TLM-103 and Apollo so if you can't get good sounds with that, it ain't gear what you should be worried about... Pretty sure you can make an awesome sounding record with minimal equipment and a decent-sounding room. The Apollo just opens a lot of doors for people who aren't at the stage of blowing 4k on a compressor.

    @jaredrush6750 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A good quality recording starts with the mic and then the preamp then outboard, then the recorder.. as the recorder is important in the chain,. It has to start with a great mic and great player which this video shows,. So the point about the very expensive mics comes into play that if you have that part right, the recorder has less to do with the outcome.. it's absolutely part of the process but this video is misleading cause anyone with that high end mics will have a console and outboard gear and the Apollo though it has them internally, the end user is not gonna be using a vintage u67 and then be so glad they don't have to have a console and outboard processing.. lf Apollo is aiming for the project studio user, then use project studio mics too.. cause it's hard to tell if the Apollo is really making the recording great or is it the $30k in mics that made the recording sound good..

    • @patrickjudson
      @patrickjudson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have also said this on many other videos by a lot of other companies.
      They make these videos with lots of processionals using high-end "supporting" gear.
      For example: The room alone is going to make a significant difference in the recording.
      Most people do not have that level of treatment.
      Lastly, it is so comical that they are using high end Neumann mics that most bedroom producers cannot afford.
      I am sure UA is great but they should make demos showing real life scenarios for the majority of their users.

    Nice ... but everything starts with the song arrangement thru the room acoustic, instruments and player qualities followed by those extremely expensive mics ... it means you couldn't make it bad with any preamps and soundcard in this case :-)

    think about it, if a 3500.00 U87Ai is all that's standing between you and your dreams then for fuk/s sakes get the damn mic and make your hit but I'm willing to bet, even if someone handed you a U87 you'd find a new excuse..
