    Nice kick Shelby. 👍 On a side note, why is Brenda Martinez always involved in pushing, shoving, and tripping incidents??? She’s the most intrusive runner I’ve ever seen. Jeez.

    • @mstrunn
      @mstrunn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +Whis Although this was not her fault, she seems to be snake bit in big races; her use of elbows against Jenny was warranted as many of these ladies will be heading to Europe and those gals play rough, but I get your point.

    • @Unclewhistler007
      @Unclewhistler007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      mstrunn thanks for noticing. I went back and watched the race again to try and see what actually happened. There are 3 separate incidents involving Brenda. 1:59, throws a soft elbow to a runner that’s already gained the pass on her. 2:13, a little bit stronger elbow/bump on Simpson (looked to me like Simpson, like the previous girl, had already gained the pass). And then 3:17, it looked like Brenda was slowing down, causing another runner to roll up on her. Got nothing against Brenda, but go watch the 800M and 1500M Olympics Trials from 2016. There she is again.

    • @jazzyjay4595
      @jazzyjay4595 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Brenda completely caused the fall. It's ignorant to not believe that. She clearly cut over in front of a girl. As soon as she moved inside she falls

      mstrunn yeah she was in lane 1 but down the backstretch she moved to the middle of lane 1. People get passed on the inside of the same lane all the time. She was getting passed by Jenny on the outside and then this girl was coming through on the inside.

    All the comments on Martinez...at the 2:40 mark in the race Simpson cut in on her, the push was warranted. At 3:38 she is trying to cut in from the middle of lane 1 to the inside at the start of the turn to gain momentum and possibly a step on those who stayed wide. She still had position and she got her heel clipped from behind by Johnson who at that point trailed by half a stride. It reminds me of the Decker-Budd incident in 84 with Decker trying to force her way on the inside, losing her balance when she caught Budd's heel being half a stride behind. You take that risk passing on the inside when someone is running in the middle of lane 1, especially when you have the metal curbing for someone to trip over in a stumble. Martinez's mistake is slowing it down too much between 900 and 1100. That left it open for the fast kickers like Shelby and Simpson to run up on her...she cannot outkick either of them with 200 or 250 to go. With no fall the best she does in that race is 4th. Had she kept it a bit faster 900 to 1100 I think she gets 3rd and maybe higher if someone boxes in Simpson or Shelby or they have to get around traffic on the outside of the final turn. At this level though in a slow pace elbows and pushes are to be expected.

    • @bijohn333
      @bijohn333 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ma ga nah pretty sure she's never outkicked shelby, Kate or Jenny. Sorry to burst your bubble there. The trip from behind was a mutual tumble. Martinez left it open for someone to come through, Johnson didn't get quite far enough in. The whole race the only person you see causing stumbles and bumps is Martinez. She does that in every race for no reason. Glad she fell. Maybe she'll stop throwing so many elbows

    The basic issue was that the 2 fastest runners chose to start at the back in a short race. Their moves to the front ended up making it a more aggressive race than necessary. Huge props to both of them, but no need to “play humble”-it just disrupts the race. Cheers

    • @mstrunn

      LMAO it's not called "playing humble" it's called staying out of traffic. Just because you're the fastest in the field doesn't mean you need to be at the front from the gun. That's not always a great tactic if you're a fast kicker. If you know you're faster on the last lap than everyone in front of you, why do you need to be up there? How many times did we see Mo Farah go straight to the back in a 5k/10k? And still win. The aggression came from Martinez shoving everyone

      mstrunn I'm perfectly aware of things like that but if you watch it, down the back stretch she starts to go wide in lane 1 and leaves an opening for the girl to gain some ground on the inside. When they came to the turn (200 to go. Idk why everyone keeps saying 300) she came back inside right infront of the girl. The girl didn't change anything about how she was running on the inside, Brenda just cut over too close. It's obvious.

They keep your body from being tore down after hard interval sessions So the fact she trained like an animal or not isn't even a question. She did. But others not on steroids tried to train as hard as she did and got injured or listened to their body and trained a level down and couldn't compete with her.
