Thanks for the concise, yet thorough, explanation. Unfortunately, in the two weeks since our solar panels were installed, we've had nothing but clouds and rainy days...
Once the sun opens back up we're sure you'll see some brilliant data come through :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great video! Can you show how to change the seasons in the Edit Rate Plan section? Thank you!
During outage our system only powers the fridge and we dont have power to any other places like lights and sockets. Do you know how we change this in settings?
Hi there. I am confused about two screens as one seems to look like we are being powered more by solar and battery and one looks like most is coming from grid. The first screen when I tap 'energy' says: 4%powerwall, 18% solar and 78% grid. If I click the sun button it looks like 17% home, 77% powerwall, and 6% grid. Which one is correct? Am I using mostly solar or grid?
Excellent presentation - thanks mate 👍
Cheers mate 😄
Can the powerwall 2 be force charged using storm watch for a system that will not be able to fill the battery in winter using a tou tariff
Hi, thanks for the question. Yes, you can lift the reserve capacity to 100% at any time and your battery will force charge from the grid. This is available to homeowners. Hope this helps!
If I have solar panels but did not buy the battery power wall can I still use the Tesla app? I bought the panels in 2017 from Solar City & they were bought out by Tesla. I’ve never had an app. Please let me know thank you for your video!
Just installed a newer inverter
It’s not picking up data
Any help with this would be nice thank you
I'm getting 31 Enphase IQ8A Inverters mated to 31 Q Cell panels installed next month, will I need to use one or both apps to see what's going on?
Just had this done today. Tesla app def gives a lot of info and all you need day to day. The Enphase app is much more detailed.
How much historical data does the Back Up tab show data? Will it show EVERY event going back to Day One? I assume it can be downloaded to a spreadsheet?
The Tesla App can display lifetime data, so yes, you can view all backup events. To download your data: "In the three dots menu in the top right of the graph screen, tap ‘Download My Data’ to export your system data in CSV format for further analysis. Data will be exported based on your current timescale (Day, Week, Month, Year or Lifetime) and selected time period (e.g., May, June, July, etc.). For systems with Powerwall installed, your charge level data is available at 15-minute intervals." www.tesla.com/en_au/support/energy/powerwall/mobile-app/energy-data
Hey, just came across your channel, excellent resource.
Sorry for the long winded question.
I have solar + Powerwall 2 and for most for most of the year, am self sufficient.
I'm on TOU tariff, but keep Operational Mode on Self Powered, because generally speaking, I don't want battery replenishing from the grid on off peak, as it was doing before I changed the setting.
If we are expecting rain the next day, I will slide the backup reserve up to say 70% during the off peak period overnight to top up from the grid, to ensure that I have enough to get through the following day's peak period.
What has always bugged me is that when charging from the grid in Self Powered mode, it only charges at 1.8kW's which is too slow if I only wake up 1 - 1.5 hrs before off peak ends. If I change to Time Based Control mode during this time, then it will charge at the full rate of 5kW's, but if I'm not watching and don't change the Operational Mode back to SP, it will continue to charge to 100%, not to what I have the reserve set at.
Any reason for the different charging rates depending on Operational Modes? Tesla were not very helpful when asked.
Thanks for any insights
Hey, thanks for watching. Unfortunately, we don't really have an answer for this, Tesla would be the people to speak to. We're pretty sure Tesla can increase the charge rate when charging from the grid, but you'll need to discuss with them directly. Sorry we weren't more help here!
@@springers I've already been in touch with Tesla, but to be frank, they didn't really show any interest other than to do a quick online check of the Powerwall and tell me everything was fine. That's OK, I'll just continue with my work around.
I was quite surprised that when I mentioned this issue with quite a few people I know with Powerwalls, they got back to me to say it was the same for them, they hadn't picked up on it.
Thanks again for your response 😀
Great run thru of app, cheers :)
Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately, this video doesn’t show how you set the app up. That is what I really need to know because I have no idea and the person I was dealing with with my solar company is no longer with the company. So I have Tesla inverters and I have no way to monitor them because when I open my app, I do not show the same set up as you show in this video. Incredibly frustrating. Please make a video taking us from step one which is downloading the app and how to set up our inverters in the app so that we can monitor our system.
Thanks for watching! That's very unfortunate that the company you went through did not set up your Powerwall for you - they should have. If you can't follow up with the company, try this article from Tesla. Hopefully this helps www.tesla.com/en_au/support/energy/powerwall/own/registering-your-powerwall
How does the app look like! I never saw it
Thanks for the app demo. With the Powerwall 3 having an inverter in it, do you know if it's possible within the app to see what individual panels (or for that matter panel strings) are producing? Or perhaps more importantly 'not producing' perhaps due to soiling etc.
Thanks for watching - Powerwall 3 doesn't offer panel-level monitoring unfortunately, so the short answer to your question is no. You'll only be able to view overall production and consumption in the Tesla App.
How to proceed if internet provider change in our home?
You will need to reconnect Wifi to your Powerwall. You can follow this guide from Tesla www.tesla.com/en_au/support/energy/powerwall/mobile-app/connecting-powerwall-wi-fi
Very good information.
Glad you took something from it, thanks :)
Thank you. Very helpful.
Happy to have helped 😊
I cant get into the system. Can you make a video for setting up a new service?
Hey, thanks for watching! Sure, we'll see what we can do. Your installer should have helped set your app up for you - if not, it may be worth giving them a call. Otherwise, Tesla's website has some good information that you can follow too, see here: www.tesla.com/en_au/support/energy/powerwall/mobile-app/tesla-app-for-energy
@springers nope they didn't do much of anything besides take my money. I've been on tesla's site my problem is there isn't any stickered information like a password or serial number on my batteries so I can't start the process.
@@Thatoneguy-o8x Geez, sorry to hear that. We'd definitely recommend trying to give them a call for assistance. They will have your serial numbers on their file.
Have Powerwall 2 but noticed your app is displaying a dollar value, mine displays "No data discovered for the selected time frame. Tariffs have been set up in Utility Plan Rate.
Hey there, thanks for the question. Something may have gone wrong during your setup, we recommend checking out the following article to make sure that everything has been input properly in the Utility Rate Plan section: www.tesla.com/support/energy/powerwall/mobile-app/utility-rate-plans. Cheers!
How accurate is this app? I’m showing vastly different numbers from what my electric company is telling me I’m producing and using.
I noticed you had a Zappi EV charger. Does the powerwall recognise and 'speak' to this ?
Hi, thanks for the Q, yes, Zappi can talk to Powerwalls with the help of a 3rd party app like Charge HQ. We have a video on this here: th-cam.com/video/e7oe6P5mM7E/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=SpringersSolar
Can someone explain why I would want to power my home at night from the batteries in a place that doesn't have time of use?
Hi, thanks for the question. Storing energy during the day to provide power at night is viable and worthwhile as feed-in tariffs for solar reduce and the cost of electricity continues to increase. Solar is the cheapest form of electricity and can charge the battery during the day for overnight usage very effectively. Hope that helps, cheers 🌞
@@springers Thanks. To be more specific- I have a large solar array and 3 Tesla Powerwalls. In my area we have net metering- every KW I export is applied as a credit to what I import. We don't have time of use differences in price- it's always the same price.
So, am I correct in thinking that discharging and recharging the batteries does me no good, and in fact will accelerate battery degradation?
@@bobqzzithe Tesla batteries are designed to be discharged and recharged each day. They are rated at 70% of original capacity at the 10year mark. Exporting energy at 5c/kWh and then importing at 30c/kWh overnight doesn't stack up when you have batteries. You are better off storing energy and using it overnight to reduce your overall consumption.
@@bobqzzi Why did you install 3 Powerwalls if you have net metering? Do you live somewhere with a lot of outages, or you just want to know if disaster strikes you'll be self sufficient?
@@Pete856 Not a lot of outages here, but i wanted the convenience of uninterrupted power for those we do have. We are part of connected solutions so we get paid to supply energy to the grid, but that will never recoup the costs of the powerwalls. Waiting for our first check now.
USELESS!!!
