      They are not positioning devices, they are simulated pressure gauges. The theme of this kit is "Steam Punk" and anything using steam needs pressure gauges so it is very much in the spirit of steam punk to have pressure gauges throughout the kit.

    Welcome to the complex world of Neil Peart. I first saw Rush in 1983 in los angeles, Neil was 6 feet away tucked inside his candy apple Tamas.. as Alex was running around infront of me. What can I say. After seeing Neil play the drums like he did on that magical night,, my life was so ever changed. Almost every rush concert, I went to, I would watch Neil most of the show and try to pick up a little here and there. For someone who played the drums with a passion every time, on every night,,,You can only look up to Neil Peart. The guy is my Hero,,and also for Alex and Geddy

    I counted 20 mics, plus whatever channels the Roland electronic kit takes up. By comparison, that's over half of the channels available to my church's praise band on our Allen & Heath GL-2400. Our praise band usually only takes about 16 channels, with SM58 mics for all the singers and most of the instruments. Sometimes the guitar can be plugged into a direct box, but I've never needed to mic an amp. And we have a pair of small diaphragm condensers to add some reverb to it. That's it.
    Im sure a Rush gig would have been an incredible thing to set up, especially compared to what I do at my church. This was an interesting look behind the scenes! Being a drum tech for Neil Peart must have been an awesome career.

    Pretty standard set from this angle.
    I say that In loving memory of the “Professor” ….. and with deep appreciation for his willingness to share a profound life with us, by playing his best each time, and every time he sat down on that stool.
    I say that his set looks pretty average today, because our dear friend Neal is no longer behind it.
    So now, it’s gold plated parts and wood cylinders only, with metal rings on stands.
    It’s soul has moved on with it’s creator.
    Rest in peace Neal.
    We miss you deeply.

    Been a Rush fan since the 70"s. I've seen them in venues ranging from Florida to London. Of this I can say: His Tama and Ludwig kits both sounded crisper and cleaner than any of his DW kits. His 8" DW toms were over tensioned like a baby piano to simulate a 6". His larger toms were tubby and loose/sloppy. I moved around the venue and the DW's never sounded as good as his former brands.

      Always amazes me - some of the best drummers in the world rate Peart as one of the best of all time and we have people in the comment section who are so expert they can diagnose failures in his setup. Makes me wonder how amazing TH-cam commentators must be - and why they don’t seem to be as successful and well known as the people they criticise.

  • @TheWitchOvAgnesi

    Maybe this video predates it, but DW has a distribution agreement with May for their internal miking system, and it is available on DW drums shipped from the factory. Why did Peart never use internal miking on his later kits like this one? Internal miking solves so many problems for the engineer and drummer alike.

    • @drzoidberg1987
      @drzoidberg1987 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Lorne (Neil's tech) mentioned on Twitter that he doesn't like using internal mics (aside from in the bass drum) because of serviceability during a show, and I'd also guess the limited mic choices.

      +Dorian Samaniego With the exception of his very first Slingerland set, "Chromey". It was 6", 8", 10" and 12" concert toms, with two 13x9 toms and one 14x10 tom. The 13s and the 14 were the three toms that he mounted on the two bass drums.

    Not to be picky, but those really look like Shure Beta 98's on the rack toms, could be wrong, but I am fairly Shure......

      @robburgess4556 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jethro Hall No, you're right, those *are* Beta 98's. I think that RUSH endorse AT so he might have said ATM 350's to avoid problems. Which is odd because we can clearly see 98's as cymbal undermics as well.
      Or he may have simply screwed up :-)

      @snapascrew 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rob Burgess I'm pretty sure they are audio technica. because... he said they are, and he mentions Shure later on in the video so the endorsement thing doesn't mean anything. atm 350s look a lot like the shures you're speaking of.

      Hi, no I did not screw up.... the mics are the AT 350's... we used the clamps from the Beta 98's as they are more secure that the original AT mounts. I hope this clears up any confusion.
      The band had no mic endorsements..these were the choices made by the FOH guy and myself. I continue to use all of them to this day.

      Hey Brent :-) Thanks for clearing that up. The original AT clamps aren't the best and I like your solution. Thanks for coming by to defend your honour :-)

      Cool Brent, thanks for clarifying. I try to pick as much up from these as I can, saw the band band in Manchester on the clockwork angels tour, unbelievable sound, actually bought an AT DE250 (although I would guess you use the DE2500) on the strength of your recommendation and the kick sound at the gig.
