- The Nevele Resort closed for good in 2009 but left behind decades of memories for many who visited. A potential revival in the form a casino was turned down in 2014 and any hopes of bringing this resort back to its former glory was put on hold indefinitely.

You know all that skiing and ice skating equipment isn't cheap. I can't believe that stuff got left behind instead of sold off.
Right like wtf? They could still sell it and why did they let the building get destroyed?
I visited there, and the good stuff in working condition is all gone. All that's left is skis that have parts missing, or broken.

All the equipment has already been utilized to make all the money it can make. In year 2,009 everything had been left in place just in case the owners could have made it into a casino. By 2014 everything had been sitting for 5 years. The owners probably had $100 million and it wasn't worth it to them to sort through the junk. ...or maybe the property and everything on it is owned by a bank that also doesn't give a rat's ass either.

SO sad to see all that beautiful architecture just rotting away! I love that skate rink its massive! The fountain was beautiful before the tags were painted on there, when R&K filmed this location there was no paint on the fountain!!
If you're looking to see more of this place, _Bright Sun Films_ did an excellent video rundown of the history of the Nevele Resort that's filled with more shots from all over the location. Apparently, there's a hotel on the property that's still operating, and they cannibalized some of the old resort's furnishings when it closed down. There's also some kind of telecommunications/cellular broadcast tower on top of the tower shown in this video that's still operating as well. If you're gonna check out _Bright Sun Films'_ Nevele Resort video, he recently released a commentary video about that video that goes into more depth on their experience at the place.
The original video (by Bright Sun Films) was shot a few years ago by this point. The resort has definitely gone to pot even more since they were there. Definitely an eye opener between the two. I watched the commentary a few weeks ago when it came out.
I saw that video when it came out and when I saw the lounging area with the fire pit in the middle right near the beginning, I instantly remembered the Bright Sun video. That guy is top notch!
Jake and his friends were already late in the game. I saw a video probably 6 years ago where the place was still pretty much untouched. Then people noticed it, got in and trashed it. Sadly the video got deleted...

The tours of abandon properties are probably among my top three favorite videos that you provide. I’m mystified how these places become abandon, why so many useful things are left behind, and why local governments don’t hold property owners accountable for deconstructing these dwellings. I see so many materials that had or have potential for use in other installations.
Exactly! Owners should be held responsible for doing something with all that's inside and the property itself. To see these places vandalized is really upsetting...to see them rotting away is twice as upsetting.
I'm amazed at how decayed the inside of the buildings are only after 10 years of being shut down
Water damage will destroy.
a single kicked in door or window can make the most amazing difference of the buildings lifetime, as soon as moister and wind finds its way in it invades the place quick!

What a bloody shame and waste! All that equipment could of been sold off or donated! Sad.
Not if you file bankruptcy. A bank probably owns the property now and they’re not going to spend a dime or lift a finger if not forced to.
@@sallyintucson Was just about to ask why so much stuff is so often just left to rot. As a swede this seemed so bizarre. One would think the lot would be auctioned out for highest bidder or something like it. Now I understand better, so thanks! :)
@@RosalitaComeOut During The Great Recession people walked away from huge brand new houses filled with new furniture and all their belongings. It was and is bizarre behavior to me.

One thing about the gym also, there are no lines. This place in its time was really pretty and there were so many things to do. It would have been a great vacation place. I think the place with the nice fireplace and twin staircase and all the rooms is where the staff lived. The clothes are because they were called at home and told they no longer had jobs and they just left their stuff.
Hey man I just want to thank you for all your hard work, time, dedication it takes to get us this footage. I live for things that have been forgotten, hidden behind the hands of time. You can't help to think what it was like there. Only 10 years ago people were still actively going there and look how it looks so fast. I'm your neighbor here over in Cleveland, Ohio. There's an abandoned amusement park here I plan on going there in the next couple weeks.
Man that place must have been gorgeous in its day. The roof beams in the skating area, all those grand staircases and fireplaces, the suite with that "groovy" kitchen! Looked like you could fire up the snow cat and drive it around! You guys got your cardio in going up to the top floor! 😅

Exploring these places would be much better if they were left in the condition they were left in.

1) Some people like to break shit when they can get away with it.
2) A group might have some financial incentive to ensure that the resort never reopens.
After years of security work I believe people who feel powerless resort to acts of what they see as power. The less power you have the more likely you respond to inanimate objects as less danger to self. One notch up are people who wander in traffic. Just a little show of power in their minds.
Hey atleast some not all graphite is artistic vandalism. But some people are quite good at it. We associate it with crime or vandalism because where these tags are located. Artists pick these areas because they are abandoned but still seen. Most graphite artists are just that artists. But I agree tagging someone's property is illegal and i agree I look at graphite as vandalism however it gives color to something in the shadows
I totally agree. Worse than the spray paint I think is just the outright destruction and breaking of things. It would be nice to see the natural decay of abandoned locations without the vandalism.
Seeing places like this just sitting there and becoming destroyed pisses me off when we have so many homeless in the world!

The Nevele was not primarily a ski resort. It was one of the old Jewish Borscht Belt hotels. All the larger hotels (Concord, Grossinger's, Kutsher's etc) competed with each other as to size and number of amenities offered to guests. If you notice the size of the ski hill (yes, just one) it's pretty much a bunny slope and was not meant to attract "real" skiers.
The whole area is filled with history and this is how all the hotels ended up. Honor's Haven, the operating resort behind the Nevele was the old Fallsview hotel.
On the bright side, the Nevele just got funding for a complete renovation and is slated to re-open as the Grande Nevele Resort in late 2022. Hard to believe.
I imagine it was a wonderful place to visit back before forced multiculturalism and diversity. I wish I could have seen this country in the first half of the 1900s.

That's one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen just custom glulams everywhere tons of beautiful wood it's almost like artwork too bad the building is going somebody should have saved this
It's really a shame that they didn't rebuild that Resort. Amazing that all the skies, boots and skates that are there that can still be used.

I read that this resort opened in 1901, then started adding on in the 20's and 30's..then greatly expanded in the 50s and 60s.Would of loved to have seen this place, back in its hay day!! sad to see it like this..I wonder if those apartments at the end, were rented out to people who worked there?
Yes, they were most likely apts/quarters for employees, especially during the busy parts of the seasons.
I've heard that building at 20:00 was staff lodging
The tower building was not that elegant, although the newest. I imagine the last rooms seen, with adjoining kitchens, were for employees. It would be to far away to drive every day to work, and to much snow. Great video guys.

Yeah, I was thinking management apartments. Housemaids would likely get a smaller room. Those were the days when they planned for housing employees. Not anymore.
At one time this was such a magical place. I recall those Pocono days. Nice addition to your adventures. Try skytop next.
Awesome video...Its amazing i was there almost 3 years ago and has gone downhill so fast...The building with the fireplace was the workers living spaces. Love the sledding lol
I'm no expert, but that range at 17:09 is really high-end. A little googling found an almost exact model of that same range- 1966, and the owner is using it and loving it. Apparently those things cost 700 bucks in 1966, which is like 5 grand today. If I didn't believe in "Take only pictures, leave only footprints" I'd try to haul that thing out of there and polish it up for my own kitchen.

I've seen this resort explored by several other urban explorers but yours is by far the best! The narration was hilarious... especially at the restaurant where they "specialize in dieting here!" 😂🤣
R &K ALL DAY was at this same resort about 2 yrs ago. It’s somewhat better shape then.

After watching this video, I thought it looked familiar as the name rang a bell, but it wasn’t until I pulled up the old commercials from the 80’s that it really hit home. I vividly remember this place!! It was the jingle that really hit home!
When I was a kid growing up on Long Island, this was THE place everyone went for ski trips and winter vacations!
I cannot believe what’s happened to it!

Back in the day...this was an amazing resort. Once upon a time this whole area was filled with wonderful places.
It must have been beautiful when it was fully operational! It is pretty enough that I could see/concede to a winter wedding. Hell, you could honeymoon there too! Though I'd pass on the downhill skiing, I always end up injured enough for medical help. Dying on my wedding day would not be cool.
That's actually a late 50's/early 60's kitchen. That would've been top-of-the-line stuff back then... pretty amazing.

Musta closed down overnight. I'm glad I found your channel. My old house still isn't as bad as these places. Looks like the plow is still being used. Appears to be in good condition.
I think that the rooms you looked at first that were small and had the old hardware and the seventies carpet were probably where the staff stayed for the season. There would have had to been someone there at all times. I think the live in seasonal staff stayed there. What a grand place though. I was really impressed by the marble on the walls. The "suite" you came across in the tower was the Penthouse.

I read that the closing was unannounced so basically like you said. "Hey everybody... we're closed." New the snowcat would have sold for over $200k

Great video... I LOVE seeing the old resorts, it's such a shame these one time beautiful establishments are left to just deteriorate. My theory is the rooms with shared kitchens could possibly be "apartments" for the staff??? That would also explain the personal "touches" LOL... makes you wonder why they would leave certain items behind...
I started skiing around age 12 or 13, it was 1978 ish and I remember smaller places like this in western NY. I can see this place in my mind's eye just exactly as it would have been back in the eighties. I would have loved to ski here. We ski'd at Holiday Valley NY before it found out what it was and got popular.
When I watch your videos I feel a strange mixture of sadness (at the loss of someone's grab at the American Dream), regret (at the fact that so much has been lost and wasted--that marble is one of the items I am thinking could be recycled, and all those snow boots that could have been donated to poor people) and finally, remorse. The remorse I feel is for all the people who made trips to the places you highlight, and who look back on those places with fond memories of good times, but who see it now as nothing more than cast-off memories better days. So, all in all I guess your vids make me feel melancholy.

I recognized the resort right away because I've seen a video of it before... however your touch and style made this one more entertaining! Thsnks Chris 😀
11:49 was likely the employees section. Most resorts are seasonal and a lot of employees are from away, so they stay on site. The "hall bathroom" was probably a community bathroom for them. No need to renovate that section if its for the working stiffs. 20:40 is likely permanent residents for the caretakers, year around. It Nevele wasnt just a ski lodge, but a country club as well.
There are several abandoned resorts in the area that you are in. It would be interesting to show and compare . Many are abandoned due to the interest in traveling to Europe.

I can't believe some of the stuff that was there starting with the ski boots and skis, ice skates, aluminum ladder to the wardrobes and vintage headboard from the master bedroom. Some of those kitchen cupboards were like mine. Time for an upgrade I guess. Thanks for showing all this stuff and climbing all those flights of stairs. I'm glad you didn't take the elevator.

I'm 58 now and I remember the commercials on T.V. back in my early teens (70's) for "The Nevele"!! Back then it was the GO TO place for skiers in the winter. Sad to see it go but after all this time, guess it's too expensive to keep it up to code. My thought, the first set of rooms you came across (with the old 60's style knobs and such) as well as the rooms you came across on the 9th floor of the tower were living quarters for the staff.
