    great info, I'm biased because when I came up I had a lot of problems with feeds and speeds engraving titanium rings, back in the day Harvey site had all my feeds and speeds handy, I'm in a job shop now and I always recommend Harvey to the boss, near retirement and just want to say thanks for the service

      @@CuttingtoolCounselor and also you keep talking about these material specific cutters... but if i enter the material into the machining advisor pro, then i enter the tool i would like to use.. it will say tool is not for material selected would you like to choose a different material? like no man find me a differnt cutter for my material. please.. sorry just trying to help better the app for the end user.

    First ever
    My experience with circle segment cutters is that they aren't as great as they seem. The sell is that they are versatile, and I thought I would have them as dedicated tools in my machine but that just isn't the case.
    First, they're expensive.
    Second, holders are a problem. Helical solutions is just now making standard inch sizes so this might not be as problematic now for us American machinists.
    Third, full five axis machining is slower than three axis on most machines. Typically less rigid as well. Plus the holder being longer, and less beefy... You lose all the speed you gained from bigger step overs.
    Third, programming is a pain, especially for pockets. At least in mastercam. It does really weird things in the corners forcing you to attack it one side at a time. Furthermore, you need to be careful with excessive c-axis motion. This is not shown in backplot or verify, and is difficult to notice in simulation unless you're specifically looking for it.
    For pockets, I found 3+2 rough-finish followed by a ball nose clearance cutter from Harvey to get the fillets in multi axis to be the most effective, fastest, easiest and most reliable approach. The sales people are going to tell you to use a taper form for the sides, an oval form for the corners, and a lens form for the floor using 30 different tool paths. Plus painstakingly verifying the tool paths in simulation.

      You have some great points. There is 100% a time and place to use these tools to get the benefits from that larger step-over. Hopefully I can explain that in the next video so machinist can make the best decision for specific parts. Really appreciate your experience! Ctc
