    You guys released two new planes on my birthday, and wouldnt chance have it that my sparrow just decided to bite the dust. That pile of spare parts looks like it has a new home soon! I love this channel and everything you guys do for the hobby and community. Keep up the good work, you're an inspiration to us all!

    Man it's like you guys are reading my mind, I just built the ft22 and maidened this weekend and liked it so much I was looking for more jet style builds, and then you post this!

    i'd love it if you could get a EU warehouse, so everyone over here could get their kits and foam a lot cheaper.

      @tymfor 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +rallekralle11 true, make a warehouse in EU and ship it cheaper... the only thing stopping me from buying from FT store is actually the shipping cost - as high as the plane itself...

      I totally agree, I'm about to build my first RC plane and whilst I'm good with a craft knife I'm no Laser cutter, I tried squinting real hard but my eyes just went funny, and don't wish to go the X Men mutation route just to cut foam board, as I may end up as lime green hedgehog who's only X skill is collecting litter when I role down hills at festivals.

    • @stuuser0
      @stuuser0 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +rallekralle11 Yup, we need this stuff in EU. I spoke to my local model shop in Prague a few months back and they tried to contact the FT guys but they didn't want to start shipping to EU yet. International soon please guys?? I love the FT designs so much and I can't build them properly without the real material and now that its water resistant then they are more than just disposable. Anyway, good work Flitetest keep it up and finger crossed on our side of the pond.

    Very nice! I'm normally a miniquad pilot, but flying a mini via FPV with a lot of people (Flitefest or local groups) usually means you have to wait to fly or have someone nuke your video resulting in a crash. Mighty mini's are perfect because I have a bunch of extra motors/escs/batteries for miniquads that can go into these planes.

    Couldn't you waterproof your foam board by adding a layer of clear plastic shrink wrap. I can imagine that would be fiddly. But done well it might improve preformance as well do to being a smoother surface than foam.

  • @GaIiIeoMateo
    @GaIiIeoMateo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's possible it's from all the wind during that day you were flying, but the flight characteristics on both of those plans look horrible. Just based on watching the video, they seem to have extreme aileron sensitivity (which I understand can be fixed easily with expo) and the much larger problem, that their center of gravity both seem to be way to far back. You can see it quite easily in the flip done @2:23.
    Can anyone else see what I'm talking about?

  • @Lunumbrus
    @Lunumbrus 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are there even numbers on the kind of Thrust to Weight Ratios these things produce?
    Kinda curious about that. I mean, I've seen units that can nose up and just hover, but I've got no clue if that's average, or somehow special.

    • @travispratt6327
      @travispratt6327 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lunumbrus Id say its the norm now with brushless and lipo batteries, a 1-1 thrust ratio means the plane has as much thrust as it weighs, and that's usually what normal models aim for, it gives a really good balanced power feel. I have planes with 1-3 thrust ratios approximately, and they're like flying a rock lol, they have no control unless they're going very fast, then they're pretty touchy. These type planes id say 1-1.5 thrust ratio is about ideal, you can't ever really hover well unless its a 3d plane with giant control surfaces and very lite designed to. This is of course assuming more power =more weight, which isn't always true, sometimes with the right setups, or risking electronics you can get more power without more weight. Expensive motors and well matched props for example add more power without more weight. Anyways, the only model planes now that have less than a 1-1 are usually just trainers, gliders and scale models, like a perfectly scale warbird, but even todays modern military aircraft have way more than a 1-1 ratio and can climb vertically forever.

    • @Lunumbrus
      @Lunumbrus 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Travis Pratt Thanks for the detailed response! That answered my question perfectly, and more. :D

    • @travispratt6327
      @travispratt6327 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lunumbrus oh I should mention most people use grams, and theres charts for most brushless motor and prop combinations, so you know an a2212 brushless motor with a 10x7 prop will produce about 600 grams of thrust, so if your model weighs less than 600 grams it should hover, or climb vertically, given you can control it high alpha well enough.

    • @Lunumbrus
      @Lunumbrus 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Travis Pratt Oh, alright. Weird that you use mass instead of like, joules or something, isn't it?

    • @travispratt6327
      @travispratt6327 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lunumbrus Well, using mass (or weight really) is much easier when trying to decide what motors are appropriate, since with aircraft power to weight is very important. Its also very easy to measure, you just put a motor on a block and put it on a gram scale, then you can get the thrust. If we used joules or the power of the actual motor, then its not very easy to translate that into actual thrust. We do use the power in terms of watts and efficiency though, but thats more to calculate if your electronics are up to the task of the motor draw.

      Juno, it all depends on the space you have to work with, and the cog(centre of gravity) the chosen battery might make more difficult to balance correctly.
