  • You’ve probably heard about dual-wall insulated bottles, but what about triple-wall? If two walls are good, then three are better, right? In this video, we test 14 total bottles, including 11 dual-wall and 3 triple-layer bottles to see if triple-layer insulation is worth the marketing hype.

    i live and work in a small town in China where all these bottles are manufactured. i think it would be great if you could cut the bottles into two halves, pull out the inner flasks and check which are actually triple-layered and which are double-layered. you can clearly see the difference, if there is copper coating or not. the word "triple-layered" is used for marketing purposes only. all good insulated bottles by respected brands have copper coating (correct me if i'm wrong 🙂). it's an old technology used for many years, there is nothing unique in it, not a big deal. my prediction is that most of the bottles in this video have copper coating.

      Good timing! I just cut two open for a video I just posted about dents and bottles. Hydro Flasks aren't marketed as "triple-layer," and I didn't see a copper coating on the Hydro Flask's inner layer. But RevoMaxs are marketed as "triple-layer" with the copper coating, and I could clearly see that copper colored layer on the vacuum-side of the inner stainless steel layer. So based on that extremely limited sample size, what I saw lined up with how both brands market their bottles. So as far as I know, "dual wall" ones don't use copper, but I'd love to hear if there's anyone else who has any other insights about this. I also cut open the older Hydro Flask bottle style, but maybe their newer style is different.

    this channel has such professional videos and it surprised me knowing it has less than 100k subs given its quality. The algorithm needs to reach this channel!

      Thanks! It took me longer than expected to edit this one! We're still a little hamstrung by the number of bottles we have so we couldn't run 100% ideal comparisons (related to narrow vs wide mouth mainly), but there were some interesting data points nonetheless. Hope you find it interesting!

    Your test are great even though I think a ice test is needed due to the differences in temperature it impacts the performance is possible that the bottles full of ice might last more time cold than hot

    • @bottlepro3252
      @bottlepro3252  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you, and I totally agree. These bottles generally will hold temps longer when full of ice compared to hot drinks.
      The reason why I just did the hot water test is that it's pretty good way to see how the insulation compares in general between these brands, and the insulation ranking should apply similarly to cold temps since insulation is just the resistance to heat transfer (either for cold or hot). And the hot water from the tap is pretty consistent, faster, and easier to do for tests like that, compared to trying to get comparable amounts of ice for a cold test, which would be trickier to make equal and the tests would take a lot longer.
      This channel was a side project for a long time, but now that it's starting to gain more traction, I'm beginning to spend more time on it. But at some point I'm hoping to do a longer insulation test again with ice like you mentioned since that's how a lot of people use these types of bottles. Thanks again!

    I’m willing to give up a little bit of insulating time for ease of filling (especially with ice) and washing with a wide mouth.

    Okay. How about the scenario of breastfeeding outside. Must be easily opened and closed with one hand and have a second lid or something to keep bugs completely off the lid! Any suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated!!! Thank you

    I have a takeya actives bottle, so I’d like to point out that all actives bottles have an insulated lid, which is the same color as the bottle, that is the main difference between the original and the actives besides the silicon bumper at the bottom , you claim to be using a takeya actives bottle but the one shown is a takeya originals as it doesn’t have the insulated lid nor the bumper.

    • @bottlepro3252
      @bottlepro3252  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're 100% correct. This was my mistake. I have a regular Takeya, but I typically refer people to Takeya Actives because it's a better bottle. But I misstated it in at least one point of this video. Later this year I'm planning to do another insulation test and will buy a Takeya Actives before then. I'm curious to see how much better it does than the regular Takeya since most heat is usually lost through the lid in many bottles.

    Great testing! I am now interested in getting a swell water bottle though I am worried that their 40oz traveler water bottle won't fair as well because of the increased size and different lid shape. Do you have any thoughts or testing. I only care about insulation and performance than brand recognition or history. BTW I have owned a Hydro flask 32oz and 24oz and they don't hold ice or temperature as well as I would hope so I'm looking for a 32 or 40oz alternative that does a better job.

    • @bottlepro3252
      @bottlepro3252  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unfortunately I don't have a wide mouth swell yet so I don't know for sure. I would expect it to not hold temperatures as well as their narrow mouth options since a lot of heat loss happens through the lid, but if their wide mouth lid is designed as well as their narrow mouth one that I have, then I'd expect it to be one of the better insulating wide mouth bottles on the market. Sticking with a narrow mouth is probably a safer bet if your primary concern is insulation. The revomax one I tested is 32oz and had really good insulation, so that would be a good option if you're ok with the different lid style. Sometime in the not-too-distant future I am planning a 3rd insulation test video that will focus on narrow mouth vs wide mouth with a few brands like swell and hydro flask, so I'll have a definite answer soon but unfortunately not yet. Hope this helps!

      @@bottlepro3252 Thanks for the info, my top two considerations now is the revomax and the swell. Theirs just so little information on swell, let alone thier 40oz that I think im going to wait to purchase till your next upcoming video. Will the video feature/test the swell 40oz water bottle. In general your channel is one of, if not the best water bottle tester so ill definetinly wait for your data. Thanks for responding! Have subscribed!

      Yea, that one surprised me too. I'm in the middle of doing another round of tests including Ozark vs YETI for another video I'll post in a few days (hopefully), and so far it's confirmed the same result with Ozark outperforming YETI.

    I have yeti,hydro flask,swell and klean kanteen and with ice and water the klean kanteen is the best one with swell close second ,hydro flask is third and yeti is pretty poor last! In fact the yeti chug caps are although great to use are crap at insulation and actually sweat ! I would recommend klean kanteen without doubt as the best bottle ,from the ones above.

    • @bottlepro3252
      @bottlepro3252  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the comment, and interesting point about YETI's cap insulation. One video I have in mind is to run the same kind of insulation test that we did with Test B in this video, but do it with the same YETI bottle and change the lid with each test. I'm curious to see if the Chug Cap does worse than the Hotshot and if it's significant!
