J T Yetis perform well and are reasonably durable (I’ve seen people drop them on the factory floor and not get more than a dent). I’ve also not lost one, so I’ve not had to replace mine. I do wonder if there is a better performing brand out there in case I need to replace mine.
Hey there, I haven’t read the other comments yet but just in case no one else mentioned it ..... An amazing way to clean those tough or hard to reach stains on coffee/tea mugs, glass vases and coffee pots etc etc is (drum roll please) denture cleaning tablets. Fill your stained container with warm water (not hotter than 50 degrees Celsius) and drop in one or two denture tablets. Let the tablet fizz away and do its thing for as little as 5 minutes - but I usually leave it for around 10-15 minutes (or longer). Afterwards, rinse, wipe and wash well. Any stains should either be gone or simply wipe away easily while rinsing. Some denture tablets are not suitable for certain types of metals, but they also have tablets that are made for dentures that have metal parts. Anyway, most tablets now are suitable with metals but I just thought I would point that out because I don’t know what’s available “where you’re from”. It will say if it’s suitable with metal on the packaging. I’m only mentioning all this stuff about metal because I saw that you had a metal mug/cup. Aaaaanyway, I’ve used this trick for years and it’s always very satisfying when you are left with a sparkling clean mug and all those stubborn tea stains have totally disappeared. One brand of denture tablets is made by Sterident and a couple of other brands. They are usually sold in boxes of 20-30 tablets and can be found near the toothbrushes and toothpaste etc in the supermarket. Anyway, try it out - it’s really great for cleaning glass coffee pots 🐿😀👋. Thanks for the great channel.

Greg! You made my Google Home start a 3-minute timer! Also is there a reason why American brands make them heavier? Do you think the American demographics correlates quality/durability with weight while for the Japanese market lightweight means more portable and easy to handle?
I think it comes down to this: it’s slightly more expensive to make a lighter, but still-well-insulated thermos. American companies (or those in most other countries) just see the bottom line and think it’s better to make a little more profit or else make the product a little cheaper for consumers. Japanese companies, on the other hand, are focused on making the BEST product possible. They just trust that consumers are willing to pay a little more for something new and slightly better.

When i was in the military we had glass bottles in our thermoses. Not the most practical thing to have in the forest in deep snow during simulated combat...
What a wonderfully informative video! I never realised that there were so much difference in weights of similar flasks/bottles in different countries. I've got a Sigg hot/cold bottle that is absolutely brilliant. It holds up to 500ml/half a litre/17.5flOz and keeps hot things hot/cold things cold for so long it's almost unreal. A hot drink is still at a drinkable temperature about 12 hours later, same for cold drinks - and it has a removable tea infuser. I absolutely love it. It's a lovely brushed aluminium outer with a white label (that I think you can write on, but I haven't tried that). It does have a screw-off cap that needs a few twists to get it off but that doesn't matter. It's shatter-proof and doesn't leak. I also love Thermos flasks but I've had too many that have got smashed, mainly by work colleagues that were not being careful with my bag.
I haven’t watched the video yet, but I’m stressed and depressed so you can’t imagine how glad I am to have a twenty minute long video about thermoses to watch. I love your channel it’s so relaxing :)

Surprised that no one talked about "Contigo". Particularly the Contigo Byron SnapSeal of which I have two. and these have gotten me through some brutal winters.
Yes! Really happy to see a Dopper passing by here! They also got insulated bottles that are really really good! I took my Dopper to japan and pretty much used it all the time to pour bottled water over to keep it cold for longer opposed to the standard plastic bottles from the vending machines.
@@jeffreyzain I live in overrated United States. We have no healthcare here, no public transportation, unhealthy restaurants everywhere. Malaysia is one of my top destinations to live.
My all time favorite vacuum flask for cold water is the Coleman Autoseal FreeFlow. The cap that covers the drinking spout is only meant to be protective. The actual mechanism for opening and closing the bottle is a large button on the back of the cap that seals and unseals the spout. It means that you only have to "open" it once when you get to work or wherever you're going, and after that, your hands never get near where you drink from. Really fantastic in our current circumstances.
Not hot dogs. :-) Also access to cheese is highly curtailed here. And sometimes if it is a really cold winter the cows don't produce enough milk, which is fine because 2/3 of the population is lactose intolerant. But there is a shortage of butter. If you live in the countryside like me there are years where you can go 2-3 months without seeing butter on the store shelves. Ha ha! I'm only complaining about food...

Hello from the middle of the corn and soy fields of the Midwestern US! We've used Zojirushi bottles for cold water for the last four years and love them. I use a smaller thermos cup for my coffee on the go, because it is easier to clean. Love drinking from the Zojirushis; hate cleaning the tops. The gasket ring is tricky to put back on. The zojirushis go in backpacks or even pockets. Ok so they get a dent or two over time, but work fine. Thanks for linking the thermos cleaner.
Me too!! Im obsessed with thermoses!! But your collection is better than mine of course!! I thought there was sommething wrong with me. Thank god I found you!!!
In our Philippine household, we use the following insulated flasks: - 2 liter Klean Kanteen - 1 liter Zojirushi - 1 liter Tiger - probably 24 oz CB&TL free flask - 16 oz Hydro Flask The free flask and the Hydro Flask are the ones that lose heat/cold the most. The Tiger one has separate hot and cold lids. It also includes a carrying sleeve with shoulder strap.
I also collect vacuum flasks. My favorite coffee vessels are the 24 ounce Thermos Element5 with 360 degree sip-lid (I have 2 of them). My favorite water bottle is also a thermos double-walled stainless steel that keeps ice from melting. I have filled that one up with ice water and had the ice last for over 3 days!
When I think of Thermos, I think of the big type that construction workers and truck drivers have been using for decades. They seem to be indestructible, keep things hot forever, and have a big capacity for soups or coffee. The contents are poured into the lid, which serves as a bowl or cup. Loved the video!
I just started watching your other videos (really enjoyed the topics and high production quality) and l saw this one. I’ve never met anyone as obsessed with thermoses as l am!! I like you, had/have a Zojirushi and Thermos flask. They’re definitely top of the line for me. I accidentally left my Zojirushi on a train one day and l miss it like a child. I’m planning to get another one real soon. Keep up the great work! You’re very thorough and detailed, and am guessing a perfectionist - like me ;)
After getting a couple of Zojirushi a few years ago, I'll never go for anything else. Be it for hot or cold drinks, they RULE! Sliding lock, great steady drinking flow, can operate all one-handed. Love it.
My number one thought with thermoses is if the lid will be easy to clean. I've tended to switch from the fancy complicated lids that insulate well, but are hard to clean, to the flip top lids that are very easy to clean. I always have my tea and coffee with milk or cream, so it can end up causing a scummy film on the lid. Contigo used to be my favorite because it was spill proof and easy to drink from, but now my favorite is actually a David's tea brand thermos for the capacity and easy to clean lid

We also had no one outside with us to sell sodas or water; if you were the garden cashier. So I now have so many I cant count them. 🤦
Have you met me?
I really don't have time to be on TH-cam right now, yet I can't stop watching this special on a topic I shouldn't have been interested in. This was so fun to watch--nice job!
Commenting before I start watching just to say Zojirushi.
Always bonus points for cat assisted unboxing.
I am old enough to remember when the inner bottle of a thermos was made of glass. Look up Steven Wright's joke about thermoses.
Yeah, I had a few experiences with glass sloshing around after you've broken it.
my mom still believed that the one with glasses inside is better than the stainless steel one!
And every time you dropped your lunchbox on the way to school, your milk would be ruined with broken glass.
When i was in the military we had glass bottles in our thermoses. Not the most practical thing to have in the forest in deep snow during simulated combat...
I bought one recently that has a glass lining - great for cleaning!
IKR 😅.
Including Greg sounds delicate, soft, soothing and calming. 😊
I hope you get better soon. 💐
I felt your comment so deeply
I have a smaller Zojirushi and that spring-loaded locking cap opening mechanism is strangely addictive to open and close. It's just so satisfying!
people : what is the meaning of life
this guy : shiny things and drinks
cat🐹 scratching the box 🐈🐾
Ahhh yes, a thermos connoisseur.
Look at how big Shin got omg!!! He made me realize I've been following you for a long time lol
This is the weirdest most satisfying vid in a long time. Japan catches up on you Greg, your likes become obsessions taken to perfection. Also, loved both the intro and the outro. Grown-up Shin suddenly dj-scratching, priceless.
You just told MY google to set a timer for 3 minutes...
I only watched it because it was by you, but I've come away a changed man :-) Must buy thermos! BTW, congratulations on gathering the video clips from around the world. I remember you saying that's what you wanted to do with the channel originally and I thought it worked brilliantly! Also Shin was amazing. All around great video :-)
Surprised that no one talked about "Contigo". Particularly the Contigo Byron SnapSeal of which I have two. and these have gotten me through some brutal winters.
I love my contigo.
I love my contigo. If I keep the lid closed after every sip my coffee will stay at a drinkable temp for a good 4 hours.
Not at all a video I ever expected from you but exactly the video I needed.
That's a lot of cups!
So happy to see you again Greg! I love your content🥰
Okay, I thought my mother was obsessed with them, but this takes it to another level
Yes! Really happy to see a Dopper passing by here! They also got insulated bottles that are really really good! I took my Dopper to japan and pretty much used it all the time to pour bottled water over to keep it cold for longer opposed to the standard plastic bottles from the vending machines.
For me the highlight of this video is that thermos cleaner thingy...
How does that tool even work? What technology is it using?
I neeeed it.
SAME. Why didn't he link it with everything else? :(
Stephanie Greshuk It’s in the description :)
Gotta love the cat helping you open the boxes!
JDM thermoses, A word i never thought I'd hear.
I didn’t know I need a video like this!!! My soul is happy!!!
Me, using a glass milk bottle from Daiso for my coffee: Ah. So thats why everyone thinks I'm drinking soy sauce.
🤣
🤣🤣
I love that kitty is trying to help open the box 😻
In Malaysia, THERMOS has become a generic name, just like TUPPERWARE 😆
I wish I lived in Malaysia.
Ali - Where are you from brother?
@@jeffreyzain I live in overrated United States. We have no healthcare here, no public transportation, unhealthy restaurants everywhere. Malaysia is one of my top destinations to live.
Ali - Hahaha you got me there. I thought you wanted to live in Malaysia for its generic Thermoses and Tupperwares LOL!
@@jeffreyzain haha nope, much more than that.
You'd be a perfect candidate for House Hunters if you ever need to move.
"I collect thermoses and my wife has no face, our budget is ¥100000000"
I loved watching this better then the 1 hour video. It was fun watching you do the tests with Shin.
So, this is what you're doing with your patrons' money? 😂 Kidding! cool video!
You truly are one of a kind Greg! Thanks for sharing your research
to be honest, everything is better in Japan, compared to the US.
True. Like the story of 7eleven ☺️
Couldn’t agree more
Not hot dogs.
👍
I’m loving your channel. Pls, don’t move away from Japan! I went in 2014 and felt in love with the people, service, culture ( Shinto Silk Road Buddhism Cherry Flowers)
Since I'm broke, I don't have a fancy thermos. I recycle Soft Drink bottles as my water bottle.
I hit peak adult life. Actually watching someone review these Tumblers.
Well done Greg (and Shin) so now i know i will get a Zōjirushi 魔法瓶 on my next trip 2 JPN.... once the whole situation gets sorted out 🤓
Was there some kind of TH-cam Daruma behind you? 🤔
TH-cam Drama? Nope, not that I know of, haha. Oh wait, Daruma... yes, it is one. You're supposed to write the number of subscribers you would like in the year. At the time, Aiko wrote 300,000. It worked!

In many products, Japanese designs are more thoughtful and considerate.
Me too!! Im obsessed with thermoses!! But your collection is better than mine of course!! I thought there was sommething wrong with me. Thank god I found you!!!
Suntori time!
In our Philippine household, we use the following insulated flasks:
- 2 liter Klean Kanteen
- 1 liter Zojirushi
- 1 liter Tiger
- probably 24 oz CB&TL free flask
- 16 oz Hydro Flask
The free flask and the Hydro Flask are the ones that lose heat/cold the most. The Tiger one has separate hot and cold lids. It also includes a carrying sleeve with shoulder strap.
The linguistic phenomenon seen in Thermos is called a "Generic trademark". I knew there had to be a word for it 😎
We say 'Hoover' in England for vacuum cleaner.
But also by the way 'Anthimeria' is the word when it's used as a verb. Hoover the living room. Google something etc
My kids are so thrilled to see their water bottles on your video!!
I prefer DPRK made products, now those products are quality
I also collect vacuum flasks. My favorite coffee vessels are the 24 ounce Thermos Element5 with 360 degree sip-lid (I have 2 of them). My favorite water bottle is also a thermos double-walled stainless steel that keeps ice from melting. I have filled that one up with ice water and had the ice last for over 3 days!
Okay your son is going to be such a heart breaker.
I can't believe I watched this whole thing lol. What an amazing channel. Only you could make thermoses this interesting, Greg.
Sad that not a single Stanley was mentioned
There we go again. The best part about this channel is Greg always consider what the world has to say. Talk about non-bias. Really cool content. Now we know the things we should consider when buying ojr next thermos - thing we often overlook. 😉
I admire your research and storytelling skills.
