    That bow on the ribbon is classic 1930s and 40s styling, enjoy. Most factory made hats don't even do that for you anymore.

      Yep. Love that bow.

    I recently bought an Akubra Squatter and I rehaped it. The Akubra seems to take steam and reshaping better than any brand I have reshaped. Really good quality hats.

    I originally started with the open crown Akubra Adventurer. I wasn't trying to make an actual Indy hat, just a similar style that I could use daily and that could take the abuse. Well it's an Akubra hat, and it's made from a Rabbit/Wool blend. Not only does it have substantial weight (REALLY nice!), it takes and holds it's shape like no other hat I've ever worn. This is a REAL hat- made in Austrailia for REAL outdoor work, not some crappy Indy replica knock off. As time went on and I fell even deeper in love with it, I decided that I needed another one- but in a different color (first one is Moonstone). Because I had heard so much about the Federation IV and that the specs of both hats are pretty similar, I decided to get a Fed 4. After some investigation I found that David Morgan didn't import the Fed- so after even more digging I discovered that the best way to get one here in the U.S. is to buy it directly from an Austrailian Hat Shop. Not only did they have Fed 4s in my size, they had a bunch of different colors (ALOT of colors)! I ended up buying my Fed 4 in my size (60) in dark, dark grey. The 2 hats are VERY similar. I did change the shape on them though. The Adventurer has a modified "telescope" crown with a loose pinch while the Fed 4 got a looser generic bash with a tighter pinch. It's amazing that although both hats are SO similar, the switch up in the shaping makes the personality of each completely different! So- either way, it's hard to go wrong with an Akubra. These are EXCELLENT hats and will probably outlast you!

      This hat goes everywhere with me, on the water, on the trail and on the date. It has a character of its own and it's tough as nails.

      A straw hat is fine in a humid climate where moisture helps keep its shape but in a dry climate it soon cracks and disintegrates. For that reason, I’m switching to cotton.

    In the last two weeks since owning this hat I have gone paddleboarding on the Russian River, Kayaking in Lake Tahoe, Hiking up to Tamarack Lake, and out on the town in San Francisco. It's developing its own character and shape, which I love. It's a natural evolution rather than a synthetic screen match, which I love.

      I've been using mine for everything, especially while digging my outdoor patio. I've realized how a nice hat like this can protect from skin cancer because it has such good coverage.

    Thank you for this video - it's probably the most well-done hat review video I've seen. I bought an Adventurer as my first Indy hat about 2 years ago. I've since bought a more "screen accurate" hat...and I still like the Adventurer better. It's an awesome durable all-around great hat! My wife likes to wear it gardening in the sun because she likes oversized hats on her that sit low and block the sun, and I wear it out when I'm doing yard work or hiking. You're more of an adventurer than me, but as it wears down, I'll likely buy another from David Morgan! Anyways, cheers and here's to hoping you shoot a few more videos as time goes on and your hat wears into a floppy mess ;)

    I have an Akubra, federation iv deluxe, I put hot tap water into a spray bottle, (Like a Windex type bottle),... I misted the felt with hot water, until it was nice and damp, Not soaked,... just damp, I shaped it and sat it on a box in front of a fan and let it dry overnight,... it's Perfect.

      That's great. I'm going to wear this hat down as I bring it hiking/paddling with me. When I've killed it, I'll probably upgrade. I'm curious to see what makes each hat so different.

    I bought the similar Akubra Federation IV in grey as my hunting hat, it’s been my go-to outdoor hat for hunting, yard work and everything to do with the care and riding of our horses. Wouldn’t mind trying the Adventurer as well.

      It's been there. Great thing about Akubra hats is that they are such good quality they take a beating and still look beautiful. I fell in the river the other day on my hike and I just set it upside down on my counter for the night and it was ready to go the next day. The gold logos on the leather band are almost worn away after 2 years with the hat but the hat itself looks like new.

    David Morgan offers for an added cost, a blocking service so you can have the hat shaped according to your preference if blocking an open crown hat doesn’t suit you. I chose the Indy Jones block on mine and I’m happy with it. The Akubra Adventurer is s budget alternative if you can’t afford the expense or want to wait several months for a custom hat from Hebert Penman or Adventurebilt Hats. Rabbit felt is the quality standard for a good hat above wool felt fur.

    • @rootieboy
      @rootieboy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you. One day I'll probably get a Herbert Johnson, but in the 2 years I've had this hat it just feels like me. It has taken a beating since I made this video and it is still in beautiful condition. To be honest, I've handled the Herbert Johnson, Penman, and Adventurebuilts owned by some friends in an Indiana Jones group I'm a part of and I don't think they would hold up as well as the Akubra with all of the hiking, kayaking and other adventures I do.

    My dad got an Adventurer from a Garage Sale for $10. He asked me if I wanted it, and of course I said ‘hell yeah”!!!!!!
    At the time I just took it because it was an Akubra, but a bit of research I realised it’s an Indy copy which is AWESOME 😎

    I collect fedoras too and i have in my collection 8 replicas of Indy's Fedora from different brands. There is only one problem with Akubra's hats: their colors are not correct compared to the original ones worn by Harrison Ford in the 4 movies of Indiana Jones. For me the most accurate Indiana Jones' replica fedora has been created by Thomas Osygus the owner of Advintage in Germany.

    • @rootieboy
      @rootieboy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true. I joined an Indiana Jones fan group on facebook and everyone has their ensemble. From what I hear the Akubra's, while not an official Indy hat, are the toughest of the hats. They are thicker and handle better in the weather, which is what works for my lifestyle. It's less of a cosplay hat and more of a rugged, jump on a horse or trail hat.

  • @milchkaffee3914
    @milchkaffee3914 ปีที่แล้ว

    is it just me or does anyone alse think, that this hat does not fit his head. To me it looks oversized and the hatshape is to round for headshape. I pretty like how he likes his head and I'm happy for him because of that, but in my opinion, he should get a "long oval shape" with one or two numbers smaller. Maybe also a slightly narrower brim to fit his face.

    • @rootieboy
      @rootieboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s all good. I’ve actually reshaped the hat many times since. It’s now a more oval shape. The hat does fit perfectly though. Any smaller and it wouldn’t fit on my actual head 🙂

      Tilley hats for hiking make a lot of sense. They have great airflow and they are crushable so you can store them away. This is built more like a tough and rugged Australian cowboy hat that you'd wear working the ranch and for a night on the town. It's a beautiful hat that takes a beating.
