    Can’t say that I have ever seen anyone until now go through an unboxing like this guy.🙀

    What angle blade did you get for yours?

    • @WoodenThingsAndStuff
      @WoodenThingsAndStuff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just got the standard 25 degree blade, but I hone everything at 30 degrees, so it's got a "micro-bevel"

    Great buy. I'm sure you will get years and years of service out of that thing. Just don't knock it off the end of the bench ;)

    Waste of time watching this nonsense. It's a great plane (i've got one) Just looking at the stuff hanging on the wall says everything! Never mind the worlds full of it. Top marks to Veritas for a great tool.

    MOST people tighten the brass cap down too hard . Tighten it JUST enough so it is NOT loose but you can still adjust the blade easily . If you are not able to adjust the blade then you have got it TOO tight . Turn the small brass limit screw fully cw and then let it out slowly 1/4 turn at a time until it has a small mouth opening . then lockdown the front knob.This plane is EASILY capable of taking 1/1000th inch shavings ,probably less but that is not practical .

      Yeah, it took some fiddling at the start to get used to it, but now that I am, it gets 90% of the planing work that happens in my shop. It's a wonderful tool.

    LOL, your reaction when opening the box and iron package was exactly the same as mine!! i got the la smoother and block at the same time, it was a heavenly day in the shop!! not quite as heavenly as rex krueger's video, angels sang in his shop!

    Hello from somewhere else in Ontario. I saw the Sleeman's in your fridge and made a guess. Nice little shop and a great beard. I gave you a thumbs up and subscribed so I can follow along. I'm building a new shop behind the house this summer so I can ramp up my own woodworking ... in my own space. No more sharing with the car of "she-who-must-be-obeyed". Work safe, eh?

    • @WoodenThingsAndStuff
      @WoodenThingsAndStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm on Vancouver Island, actually, but Sleeman makes a good brew at a reasonable price point, so it's generally my go-to these days. Thanks for hopping on-board my journey and best of luck on yours!

    Stymied by the box. Not off to a good start…
    And at 4:44, a shot of the box cutter sitting on the bench with the blade out. Strike two.
    And at 5:37, almost knocked your brand new $300 plane off the bench. Strike three.
    Bye, bye…

    The guy who taught me how to dovetail uses Woodriver planes and I was in that direction until I saw Veritas planes.
    I asked why Veritas was not represented in his plane Shoot Out. He said "I don't like them." and didn't elaborate.
    So I will attempt my project with the Veritas Bevel-up Jack Rabbet plane and hope it will be versatile enough.

    • @WoodenThingsAndStuff
      @WoodenThingsAndStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me the LAJ is more versatile than the Jack Rabbet, because you can't use the rabbet on a shooting board and I'll eventually get a shoulder plane or rabbeting block plane (or both, who knows?) For getting right to the edge of something. Just something to keep in mind.

    • @cerberus2881
      @cerberus2881 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WoodenThingsAndStuff Your objection about shooting is overcome by attaching a nice piece of squared Hardwood to the side of the Jack Rabbet plane. Saw a video about it just yesterday.

    • @WoodenThingsAndStuff
      @WoodenThingsAndStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cerberus2881 That's true. And to be honest, I don't really do much shooting anyway. I actually wanted the jack rabbet plane when I got my LAJ and would have gotten one if they'd have had one in the "factory seconds" sale that year, but they didn't. I had to make the call within seconds (because everything sells out within minutes of that sale going live) to get the LAJ for $240 CAD or buy the Jack Rabbet at regular price for $400.

      I've only ever used the blade it came with. I'll probably buy another one and sharpen it at a slightly higher angle for especially figured woods to reduce the chance of tear-out, but that will probably be it.

    The trouble you are having with the friction clamp indicates you should not use any sharp tools unsupervised. The planeis a sweet tool that should last generations if properly cared for.
