i agree that the interior is not that great even though its from the early 2000's but dude dont compare a 1960's car to a early 2000's car interior haha
Personally I think that DB9 is the best looking modern Aston (in fact most beautiful Aston of all time). It is much more refined, simplistic and clean. Vanquish screams 90's with its many details of the exterior and it has aged way faster. DB9 still looks fresh even tho it came out 14 years ago. But hey, everyone is different :)
Lukasz is right. Even though I like the Vanquish' aggressive styling, the DB9 has aged way better. In fact, the DB9 hasn't aged at all. Still looks like a new car. Styling wise, the DB9 was just a modern looking DB7, for the 21st century. There is a reason they kept making it until 2016. Same with the Vantage. Came out in early 2005, and you could still buy one new in late 2017, early 2018. And a DB9 or Vantage, second hand, is waaaay cheaper than a Vanquish. That being said .. if given the choice, i'd have the Vanquish :)
Sorry, It was always so hard for me to distinguish the Aston Martin models from each other. Engine? Chassis? Design? They're all beautiful cars - but totally same. The new models are definitely different, mainly the new Vanquish is breathtakin'...
I agree the DB9 looks better. I was totally blown away when the DB9 was launched. I couldn't believe it was a real car, and not just a concept. The DB9 is one of the most beautyful cars ever made. I always thought of the vanquish as the uglier brother of the DB9. After so many years however, the vanquish kind of grew on me a bit. I think it looks quite cool now. At least, compared to the ugly, disproportional DB11.
@8:18, those are the same climate controls that were in my old Jaguar XJ and I think if you long-press any button, it disabled the beep. It's been a long time since I had the car, and I do remember disabling that annoying function.
The tiny light is a parking light, for use when parking on the side of narrow streets. There is a corresponding light in the rear light cluster, as well. With the ignition off, moving the turn signal to the right or left position will turn on the lights on the corresponding side of the car.
more than a stang, Camaro, used corvette, luxury sedan, used jag, a small luxury crossover, a domestic suv...that transmission is pricier than a lot of things
You can thank the incredible Mr. Ian Callum, the father of the DB 7, the last generation Jaguar XK, and the current generation F-Type, for the exterior design of this generation Vanquish. The man is a genius in auto design!
You use turn signals a lot on a race track. Especially on a track day to indicate you are passing on a Certain side. You just showed how ignorant you are lol
I laughed when I read the title because no $85k used British car is a bargain. You might as well use those dollar bills to wipe your butt and flush it down the toilet. At least it'd be a more practical use of the money. There's a reason why depreciation is enormous on expensive, high-end sports and luxury cars like this, MB, Jag, etc etc etc. MONEY PITS. P.S. The interior looks offensively cheap. Smooth, shiny leather. The dash looks like a giant lump of molded plastic from a Rubbermaid factory.
Minghao Fan I gotta disagree with your opinion about american cars but the skyline r34 v spec II is one my fav cars especially stock in bayside blue the best 👌🏽
Everyone hates on the Ford parts bin interior but the engine is even quirkier! I'm surprised Doug didn't refer to the fact that this glorious V12 is actually 2 glorified Ford Mondeo V6s mated together!
It has a little more in common with the Mondeo engine than a Vulcan or GT12 engine : but had already been modified far beyond original weld job. That V12 had only 320 bhp.
No way doug, this thing doesn't beat out the SLR at all. That car is on a whole other level, this parts bin special is a pretty mess but the SLR is a timeless icon.
If not for the 007 films Aston Martin would've gone belly up 20 years ago, so many of these fanboys haven't ever driven, sat in or lived with an Aston Martin, the cost cutting and lack of quality in their older models is terrible
There are a few early 2000s cars that have aged really well, 2003+ Subaru Legacy, 2002+ Volvo S60, Aston DB9 just off the top of my head. This, not so much...
The gallons used is a Ford display thing. My '06 Mustang does this just about exactly like the Aston there. Kinda handy if you're just freakin' out about 'did I have to put 13.5 gallons in?!' So you check the display, and yes, you used that many. 'Whew! I thought I was goin' a lil' crazy there for a second! Thank you Ford for telling me how many gallons are used this time!' 'Course, you gotta reset it each time you fill up, but hey, small price.
What kind of gallons are those, though? Because the Imperial gallons (4.54609 L) are significantly larger than the US liquid gallons (3.785 L). The answer is, of course, US liquid gallons: [10:12] 42.5 L ≈ 11.2 US gal (≈ 9.3 UK gal) A right-hand drive unit would probably be a different story.
apparently the owner has plenty of money to piss away...there are people out there that look at $50,000 and think..."hmmm sounds good." Similar to what I would do when deciding on a $1,500 TV
I was just thinking the same thing but I know they're two different cars when was it 2004 this one's a 2003. But they're talking about the exact same thing.
Doug! You should review the new infinity Q50 or Q70! They are cheap luxury cars with a 400 horsepower from a twin turbo V6! Review it please! Everyone like so he sees this!
Agree on the interior, but the exterior? People, these types of cars you have to see in the real world...it's absolutely breathtaking. I walk by one basically once a week, a guy eats a lot in a restaurant I live close to, and every single time you find a new little angle that makes it even more beautiful. His has some kind of baby blue color...
What are the odds that "carry out manual gearshift conversation" was a typo and should have been "carry out manual gearshift conversion"? A typo on a $50k bill!
This is a fascinating presentation of an unusual, early Vanquish with the manual conversion. The later Vanquish S (with its greatly increased power and far better brakes) which had the manual gearbox conversion would possibly have been an even more interesting subject, had one been found. Unfortunately those many reviewers who savagely criticised the original semi-automatic gearbox, plainly never took the trouble to learn how to use it properly. Once you learn the art, the car goes smoothly and swiftly, but it does need skill and practice. A manual conversion is unnecessary, certainly on the later cars. (The Ford and Volvo parts never go wrong; that is their justification.)
I disagree with the doug score.... I personally don't think it as beautiful as doug claims it is and it doesn't deserve a 7 for acceleration, it's also not better than the SLR in any way shape or form.
Imo except the front end of it, its an ugly car, so if I'll ever have a leaderboard/scoring system, its not gonna be 10/10. Maybe you should do the same way *if you do your own list* .
The car owners hear rumblings about the company's plan to make things right with their admitted substandard transmission, then one day you finally get the letter containing the exciting news you've been dreaming about. Before you even open the letter you're envisioning an invitation for a free honest to goodness manual transmission, you then start reading and a pounding sensation starts to build and the pain increases as you read on until you can't stand it anymore because your arse is getting railed with a steam shovel, 50k, for only 50k they are willing to cram a shifter up your cup-hole and at a labor rate of $200 per hour U.S. x 62 hours + parts even charging you 14 cents for a cheap screw, they must've included that item just for laughs.
My boss had one of these and still to this day is one of the best sounding cars I’ve ever heard. Unfortunately, having the single clutch transmission, it would not go into gear at a busy 4 way intersection and left him stranded. Very embarrassing. And was a very expensive fix.
When the Vanquish came out I thought it was the most beautiful Aston Martin, but I think it's aged worse than any other contemporary Aston. It looks kinda bloated and heavy and sickly nowadays. And good lord I'm glad that transmission is swapped out. People who bought the following cars ruined them with the wrong transmissions: E46 BMW M3 SMG, Toyota MR2 Spyder SMT, Audi R8 R-Tronic, Aston Martin Vanquish with the stock POS...I'm sure I'm missing others. People should just learn how to drive stick.
@@HipsterNgariman Agreed, smoother lines all round on the DB7 and definitely has a more timeless look. Also the interior is all leather, wood and Wilton carpet. Still suffers from corners cut with some Ford/Mazda switch gear and trim, but the overall look of the interior is far more luxurious and you don't really notice the Miata interior door handle or the Sierra windows switch. Disclaimer: I own a 2000 DB7 V12 Vantage, so I'm a little biased. One of the things that Doug never mentioned is that the Vanquish and the DB7V have a major Achilles heel like many early 2000's cars, the coil packs. They don't last very long , some of the originals didn't get to 20k before crapping out. The job is a big one (20 or so hours, I;ve done it myself...TWICE!!) and the original packs cost $150+ each. Thankfully the newest versions are good for a lot more miles that the first versions (Ford parts, but not used in any other car).
Doug, I completely agree with your assesment of the beauty of the Vanquish, it's truly breathtaking. That was one of the reasons I purchased one about a year ago. I also agree that the gearbox is a bit crap, but then that is a refection of the era in which it was made. Like the owner of your review Vanquish, I am planning on having my car converted to manual. Good review.
Anyone else see the VinWiki video that came out today about this very same generation of the Vanquish that was also converted to a manual and set the owner's house on fire?
"You'd like a Vanquish? That'll be $300,000. And for another $50,000 we'll turn it into a car you can actually drive..." :D But hey... the Vanquish never really did it for me. First there was its starring role in that POS movie Die another day (the "Vanish" ... yeah, right!). And then there are the looks ... compared to the DB9 or even the V8 Vantage, this thing looks old fashioned ... and not in a good way. Both this car and the DB7 have "Ford parts bin" written all over them for me ... while the V8 and the DB9 very much look like bespoke GT-cars ... well... on the surface at least.. ;)
Those comments are fair. The original vanquish feels very much the last of the old world kit car Aston's, being built in Newport Pagnell. Id rather have a DB9 any day, especially those with a stick. I wonder if they will offer the same manual conversion for an auto DB9 if you offer them enough money?
@@dmejia706 he's rated other cars based on people's perceptions of their looks before and rated accordingly. His reviews generally are quite unbiased usually. Judging by the comments there aren't many people who agree with him.

i agree that the interior is not that great even though its from the early 2000's but dude dont compare a 1960's car to a early 2000's car interior haha
Agreed
"Beautiful". Yah, just like the 02 X-Type Jag
True the Aston however has a bigger body it's more luxurious & muscular looking
Personally I think that DB9 is the best looking modern Aston (in fact most beautiful Aston of all time). It is much more refined, simplistic and clean. Vanquish screams 90's with its many details of the exterior and it has aged way faster. DB9 still looks fresh even tho it came out 14 years ago.
But hey, everyone is different :)
Vanquish was developed late 90s, DB9 early 00s so they had made progress. Both rather different looking cars though, but of the same theme.
So true. The DB9 Is an absolute timeless car. This one looks plain old. I'm fine with the exterior, but that interior is ugly as hell.

You can thank the incredible Mr. Ian Callum, the father of the DB 7, the last generation Jaguar XK, and the current generation F-Type, for the exterior design of this generation Vanquish. The man is a genius in auto design!

A relative of mine had a V12 vanquish, and I specifically remember the engine nameplate having "Stuart Bull" on it @ 14:40. Cool.
Well it is 2003 model. Pretty much all cars from the early 2000's had that plasticy grey biege look.

Everyone hates on the Ford parts bin interior but the engine is even quirkier! I'm surprised Doug didn't refer to the fact that this glorious V12 is actually 2 glorified Ford Mondeo V6s mated together!
Much like a Veyron then.
@@andrewnorris5415 Yeah, pretty much! Or like a Bentley Continental GT, with its 2 VR6s!
So, theoretically, one could reduce the engine weight by 50% by removing one of the mated V6s...lol

Thank you Ford for telling me how many gallons are used this time!'
'Course, you gotta reset it each time you fill up, but hey, small price.
What kind of gallons are those, though? Because the Imperial gallons (4.54609 L) are significantly larger than the US liquid gallons (3.785 L).
The answer is, of course, US liquid gallons:
[10:12] 42.5 L ≈ 11.2 US gal (≈ 9.3 UK gal)
A right-hand drive unit would probably be a different story.

I agree !!!

To be honest, I think the DB7 is prettier and aged better than the Vanquish.
The DuoSelect from the early Maserati's of the 2000's. But the aesthetics of them made up for it.
I think a DB9 is better aged, its maybe the lights..
You forgot the Saab Sensonic and the Ferrari Testarossa Valeo and Mondial Valeo
The whole damn interior is plastic
Doug, I completely agree with your assesment of the beauty of the Vanquish, it's truly breathtaking. That was one of the reasons I purchased one about a year ago. I also agree that the gearbox is a bit crap, but then that is a refection of the era in which it was made. Like the owner of your review Vanquish, I am planning on having my car converted to manual. Good review.
Anyone else see the VinWiki video that came out today about this very same generation of the Vanquish that was also converted to a manual and set the owner's house on fire?

"You'd like a Vanquish? That'll be $300,000. And for another $50,000 we'll turn it into a car you can actually drive..." :D
But hey... the Vanquish never really did it for me.
I knew you'd be bias since you love Aston but that car hasn't aged well at all and definitely doesn't deserve a 10/10 for styling. 7 at best.
