Just magic, isn't it? Still my favorite Neil Song, with After Berlin a close second. Thanks be pointed to the Neil Young Fan Group who built the Archives Be Damned Project back in the day for pointing me at Neil and the Ducks.
Thanks for mentioning After Berlin. What a song! I'd never heard of it, I have 40 NY CDs 2 Box Archive sets & seen him 3 times, but I'd never heard of this song. Thanks man.
Digging the way Johnny Craviotto's drums and Bob Mosley's bass crank up the bottom end dynamic for Neil and Jeff to weave the guitars into this sailing beat to Windward.
RIP....Johnny......Rhythm Guitar - Jeff Blackburn.. his rhythm guitar was so strong for Neil to run free.. These gigs of the summer of 77 were so fun looking back ... Sitting around playing music at Bucks 38th Ave house, Neil just relaxing with the locals and having some magical fun.. Still listen to my complete catalog of Ducks music... but in Hawaii... I hear there's a Duck in Pahoa.. ALOHA Bernard.......
Anyone that can pull up a Neil Tune from the past like this is an incredible human being....god I love this stuff. I never had the chance to listen to it before. Peace, The Meltdownman
Neil has so many old songs he can pull out surprising us . I love this and all the oldies he has up his sleeve . Great musician . We love you Mr Neil . ❤❤❤❤
Awesome post. Discovered Neil and the Ducks several years ago. I'd pay big for what they did together in good quality. It's such a treasure. The drummer is impeccable. Can't imagine the possibilities had they stuck with each other for a longer while. If only artists of this caliber were not so moody...
Yeah, this is one of my favorite bands that Neil has played with along the Way. I've wondered what Ben Keith would sound like with these guys. I picked up "The Ducks High Flyin' and a 6:24 version of this, "Windward Passage" credited to Jeff Blackburn as the writer. The song is undoubtedly influenced greatly by Neil Young's guitar playing. It's an excellent album, and has that "in-the-moment" thing that Neil Young refers to as the Center.
where in the hell did this come from? Got any more? Those small shows in the Northern Calif. bars/and last minute ones at the Worefield, S.F before a tour were to die for to see. You had to know someone or happen to listening to a local radio a hour or two before it went down. Those shows were the best to see Neil than the regular highpriced concert ripoff shows. Shadow knows
@GodfreRayKing should have had him autograph the shirt in lieu of payment instead. Think of what you could of had in the way of a story and the signature to prove it. Peace, The Meltdownman
I agree, but I wonder if lyrics were ever attempted? It's great though! There was going to be a double LP of The Ducks but it never materialized, a common kink of Neil Young at that time! Archives 2 will certainly have a disc of Ducks, if it ever comes out! Long may we run...
noone ever mentioned this - for me there is a similarity between buffalo springfield and moby grape - and the ducks combine this all (partly of course :-)))) - but as far as i know this is the only collaboration - right???? funny - mosley makes young sound like moby - and of cours vice versa
Sweet . So sweet . Love this song . Why hide something so magigicent in archives. I love you Mr Neil . ❤❤❤

I concur. Best instrumental work he did with any band. I wish more recordings with the Ducks were available.

Unreal! I've been looking for the last 4 minutes of this song for most of my adult life! What a tune!!
Just another reminder... Neil Young, Jeff Blackburn on rhythm guitar, Bob Mosley on bass, and Johnny Craviotto on drums.

Very much influenced by Hawkwind. Also, there sounds like there was a synth player also?
Silly me, I was waiting for the song to start all that time.
Yeah, it's like this never-ending-intro. And then that "intro" becomes the song itself. Cool though.
Windward Passage>Road of Plenty>ElDorado?
I believe it's Windward Passage>Touch The Night (th-cam.com/video/HbJgfX840jg/w-d-xo.html)
Sounds like don’t fear the reaper by blue oyster cult
