That was a crazy tournament. At one point in the AM, you had lost more fish than you had landed. One trick I learned a while ago....if the bass comes up and just "bumps" the frog (like knocks it out of the water) but doesn't eat it, it's like they are trying to stun it first (so that it can't get away). On those bites, I follow up immediately with a texas rig worm. Those bass will "stun" their prey and then come right back to see if that prey is just floating down through the hole they just made in the mat. And, because they are in "hunt and eat" mode (they just stunned some prey), they will hit something that falls down through the mat in the same spot. I've caught like 60% of those bass that miss the frog the first time, doing that trick. Just a thought. Great vid, as always. Thanks for posting!
I saw him swap to a senko but he didn't have it on deck. He needs to have his follow up baits on deck ready to drop the frog rod immediately and cast out where the bass missed the bait. Follow up baits have to be quick, swapping between rod holders is too slow.
Greg, you’ve easily become my favorite fisherman to watch on TH-cam. Your humble attitude and easy-to-watch videos are my absolute favorite. I hope you keep fishing until you’re old and grey, because that’s my plan too! Thanks for the content. - Hunter
This is the reason I like watching ur videos! The raw emotions of anglers go through throughout the day. It seemed to be a slower day but u still managed to fish hard to the end and got a high finish ✊🏿✊🏿🎣🎣
What a nail biter. That last minute toad was a bacon saver. Watching you the people get to see the highs and lows a tournament angler goes through during a tournament day. Congrats on the 12th place finish. Tight Lines!
Woo Sah is the word of the day...lol I have a lot of days like this man just gotta stay in the game and not mentally check out, you do such a great job of not losing your marbles. I really love this channel.
For what it's worth my family has been fishing Clear Lake since the early 1960s and we have learned that to be successful catching bass with top water lures like the rubber frog 2 things come to mind. #1 is don't try to set the hook when they boil up on the frog, they are slapping at the frog to stun it they will come back to it if you leave it be then 1 twitch and biom, they will enhale it. 2nd is laser sharp hooks, you catch a ton of hydryllia but it will save your butt. Honestly we have used an old fashion Torpedo, medium size. A gentle , slow but erratic retrieve, pole tip side to side then down and all stop, let the ripples settle twitch it once then hold on my friend. Your a great fisherman but I thought I would pass along a little local knowledge if you want to try it. Good luck and good fishing. Good job on your content too by the way.
That was great. Can’t tell you how many times we / I have caught the game changer with minutes to go. When you ponder this a bit, no one cast has a better chance of catching a bass than another. As long as the bait is in the water, nature doesn’t care if it’s at 6:30 in the morning or 2:56 in the afternoon. Moral of your video......NEVER EVER GIVE UP!!!!!! Thanks for the adventure Greg.
Well your tourney vids never disappoint. Always some excitement. By the way I opened my hooks up on my booyah pad crashers a little bit and I hardly ever miss a fish now. I know in the replays some were missing it but the ones that did get it might of stayed pinned better. 👊👍
Greg!!! The way you set the hook when you’re using a jig is Exactly how you should be setting the hook with the frog!! Hey man, love the video and always enjoy watching it! Tournament day causes all fisherman to fish a little faster than normal.
Nothing to be ashamed of with that finish! That last one was a tanker! That place has been hammered by this time of year! I would be lucky to catch one keeper! Enjoyed the vid as always! Thanks, Greg!
Greg.... Your videos have become my favorite show. Each tourney, video year is better and better! Great job on all of it man, the video, the fishing, the practice, the elimination of water... All of it man!
Really enjoy your vids, my wife and I have recently gotten into kayak fishing and have been trying to learn about tourneys , the process, etc.. your videos have really helped us a lot.
Man, I feel your pain. I know that feeling of missing fish after fish. Love your videos. I look forward to every one. You keep me engaged throughout. I’m a weekend warrior fisherman and usually get one day a week to get out. The rest of the time I’m living vicariously through your trips. Keep them coming. Look forward to the next one.
Found your channel a couple weeks ago. I have really enjoyed watching your tournament videos the fact you take the time to take us along is priceless Thanks for the hard work.
Greg, you’re def one of my fav TH-cam fishermen!!! Especially from a kayak. Rus is an absolute beast. He kills out here in TN as well. Tight lines man! 🎣
You’ve been smacking those bass bro and you know wat your doing. Watching your I can pick up a lot of tips and tricks. Some of these larger TH-camrs can explain a lot but can’t even catch any bass to what they know Keep grinding you doing great.
Hi Greg, I've been looking forward to this video! I actually fished this tournament. First one ever. I had a similar experience with differences between Friday and Saturday. When I switched, Friday, to a bright green belly frog, they started biting. Thought I had my pattern for Saturday, but then they just would not bite on Saturday. At 9:30, I switched entirely away from the frog to a fluke. I caught so many fish on that rig and stuck with it all day. But, as you say, best to have 5 big ones instead of a ton of smaller ones! Thanks again for posting. I always love your videos, but this one had a personal feel for me. Seeing a different perspective than mine was really really cool.
Thank you for all the contents through out the years much appreciation and respect. How sincere and honest the way you go about to show us n inspired us how to fish. Again thank you.
Your attitude and demeanor in the fishing world (Especially the Kayak Fishing community) is 2nd to NONE..!!!!!! Love your vids brother!!! Would absolutely love to fish with or along side you one day..! I’m sure you’ve heard that a million times, but just wanted too shout that out to you.. I was born in Newport NY and growing up fished mostly the St Lawrence River. Left to Cali for the Military and long story short, fished Shasta, Whiskytown and Trinity Lakes pretty good. Now I’m back in NY in Utica. I fish out of a Predator PDL so I’m pretty set up. No motor but seriously not interested. Any keep up the great work..👍
Dude I just discovered your content today and you sir are the definition of class! Great stuff keep it up! I’m just getting into kayak fishing can’t wait to pick up my first yak in April!
Dude I couldn’t help but laugh when you somehow had your line wrapped at the top, and was like, how does that even happen lol We all have those days bro, keep it up, love your videos. Fellow kayak fisherman here
You great patients brother..i cant get over when bass always spit the hook and hit the lures in weird spots...it happens everywhere ..well great job and god bless keep up the hard work
Greg another awesome video I felt your pain that’s been my year . Could not get them the yak. Grinding it out though it’s hard not to get in ones own head on days like that . Thanks for sharing all that you do .
Like always, awesome video! It’s good to see you share your tricks with fellow kayak anglers out there. You inspired me to start a channel of my own fishing kayak tournaments here on the East coast.
Dude, I have to say thanks. From watching your videos I finally went out and bought 5 Keitech football jigs and holy cow, they were slaying it. Same with a popper, haven't fished one in years, finally went and picked a few up and just catching so many fish. Keep up the vids, excited to watch this one.
Hey Greg enjoy your videos . Personally I only use the shimano Calcutta reel for frog fishing . The drag never slips. And when I hook up I never bow my rod to the fish . I just keep reeling and it brings in the bass and grass
Yo as a fellow fisherman that morning for the first day of the tournament was pain brother but way the power thru! I said loud in my room, "no Greg! Remember what you said at practice! SLOW DOWN!" Comeback completed

I have no events for September either and I’m glad, kind of needed a break. Stay safe from all the wild fires out there I have heard it was really bad on the news. Hoping y’all get some rain big time to help.
Thanks for the time and effort you put in to make these videos. If you do any challenge videos I'd be interested in seeing you use a Tokyo rig and compare it to your normal punch rig.
Nice editing on the releases! More MTV-cribs style editing also please hahahaha. Thanks for the video bro! Thanks for the info at the end of these videos. I love hearing you talk about chatterbait technique. Keep it up

I love the fact that Greg tells his competitors how he is catching them before the tournament begins. He's a class act 👍
I just watched a video where he Snag hooked a 20.5 by accident and didn’t turn it in. Good people right there
Genuinely a Good Man and A Great Angler!!
Omg I'm in heaven almost 40 mins of pure enjoyment
I love his tournament vids!

Same!! I always have a follow up bait ready when they miss the frog and more than half the time they eat it!
I remember Greg use to do this in the Delta. Frog followed by wacky rig Senko.
Also, follow up bites are the coolest .
I saw him swap to a senko but he didn't have it on deck. He needs to have his follow up baits on deck ready to drop the frog rod immediately and cast out where the bass missed the bait. Follow up baits have to be quick, swapping between rod holders is too slow.
Agreed. I'll also swap from a frog to a popper if it isn't too saturated with grass.
Greg, you’ve easily become my favorite fisherman to watch on TH-cam. Your humble attitude and easy-to-watch videos are my absolute favorite. I hope you keep fishing until you’re old and grey, because that’s my plan too! Thanks for the content.

I’m off today and I’m just letting all the tournament video play, about to go grab dinner and come back for some more.
Great videos as always.
Incredible month of tournaments and even better fishing. The grind is real. Appreciate your dedication to the sport.
Thanks for the ride... wish I can have a “bad” day like that... haha 😂

I learn something every time I watch you fish. Thanks for taking us along.
Tough, tough tournament, but you kept your wits about you and stayed positive, which I am learning is 75% of the challenge!
Thanks to you, I was up at clear lake yesterday and fished some of the same coves, and your pattern killed it for me. Great videos man

All Things Considered you had a good day, solid strategy. Tough hookup day on the frog.
The amount of effort put into not only fishing but your videos blows me away. Keep killing the game brother.
Thanks for recognizing that Tanner! Yep, grinding these edits out but loving every minute of it
Greg.... man you are killin my soul with all the lost fish. Should have won at least one if not both. Keep digging, a win is around the corner.
The posture change when you missed that frog fish KILLED ME ! You looked like and arrow 😂
That frog bait.... still up there! Great job. Great video!

Nice work. That 22 inch bass made the day look so much better.
Good guy Greg sharing knowledge to fellow anglers a day before a tourney! That is awesome!

They just kept getting off but Greg kept cool, thats why I watch...a cool competitor
Great practice and tournament video, When you caught that 21and 22, that was awesome... If you are ever in Colorado and wanna go fishing hit me up.
