    I was set on catching a frog fish last weekend. Only found 2 areas where they were blowing up on it. Missed the first one and had to move on. In the second area I prob missed him about 6 times including a couple of casts where he kept just popping it up out of the water. Let the spot chill for about 10min then went back and got him first cast. Pretty frustrating.

    I've never fished out of a kayak and I'm watching you do this it would be so hard to get a good hook into a fish with a frog sitting down on a kayak. I got to give you props I think I'd lose about a hundred fish trying to do that it's hard enough standing up on a 17 ft bass boat you got to lay into them.

  • @fshnbuddy2
    @fshnbuddy2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Greg you may already do this but why don’t you have a follow up bait when fishing frogs. Like throw the frog to find them if missed fish them throw the punch or weighted fluke back at that same fish.

    Super last catch. Lately I remember your ones that came off. Really, you should have finished first both times at Clear Lake. Good video, but I felt your pain because of the competitive nature of tournament fishing the joy of actually “catching” is lost. Just a thought.
    Personally, I caught about 30 bass yesterday on the delta in my yak near Rio Vista, no giants until my last 5 pounder and I had fun just catching.
    Cheers and enjoy the break of tournament fishing.

    good job Greg. you livin it bro. do me a favor i see you get real frustrated sometimes and i understand, it is a competition, you wanna win. but there are guys like me watching living in a desert with barely a fishin farm pond within 60-100 miles. and barely gas to get there with low end gear, where i make one rod i can use out of three or four busted ones i found or got as other people's trash, and i use rod tip glue to connect all the pieces into an ugly, yet functioning FRANKENROD! but i feel i am lucky to even have that. and use real worm cuz i cant afford senkos, which i am also very grateful for, because meeger gear is better than none.
    embrace and relish your experiences. and stay in the moment. cuz guys like me that have a snowballs chance in hell just to see where you are fishing in person, let alone actually fish them. and even less of a chance to fish them in a jamma-lamma-ding-dong high end kayak, with fish finder, motor and high end gear and tackle. and fish a b.a.s.s. tournament with all that. and have time have money or sponsers for gas and accomodations food and gear and beer. please drink it in for the bass anglers never to feel, see, taste and experience that in our collective universe. and never take it for granted. because like i said bro, regardless of tourne results or what you or anyone thinks... know this, you sir, are LIVING THE DREAM!

    That was a crazy tournament. At one point in the AM, you had lost more fish than you had landed. One trick I learned a while ago....if the bass comes up and just "bumps" the frog (like knocks it out of the water) but doesn't eat it, it's like they are trying to stun it first (so that it can't get away). On those bites, I follow up immediately with a texas rig worm. Those bass will "stun" their prey and then come right back to see if that prey is just floating down through the hole they just made in the mat. And, because they are in "hunt and eat" mode (they just stunned some prey), they will hit something that falls down through the mat in the same spot. I've caught like 60% of those bass that miss the frog the first time, doing that trick. Just a thought. Great vid, as always. Thanks for posting!

      I saw him swap to a senko but he didn't have it on deck. He needs to have his follow up baits on deck ready to drop the frog rod immediately and cast out where the bass missed the bait. Follow up baits have to be quick, swapping between rod holders is too slow.

    For what it's worth my family has been fishing Clear Lake since the early 1960s and we have learned that to be successful catching bass with top water lures like the rubber frog 2 things come to mind. #1 is don't try to set the hook when they boil up on the frog, they are slapping at the frog to stun it they will come back to it if you leave it be then 1 twitch and biom, they will enhale it. 2nd is laser sharp hooks, you catch a ton of hydryllia but it will save your butt. Honestly we have used an old fashion Torpedo, medium size. A gentle , slow but erratic retrieve, pole tip side to side then down and all stop, let the ripples settle twitch it once then hold on my friend. Your a great fisherman but I thought I would pass along a little local knowledge if you want to try it. Good luck and good fishing. Good job on your content too by the way.

    Exactly why I don't like pre-fishing you'll kill it on practice then won't catch them much on tournament day

    Hey Greg, do you think it would have helped the frog hookup ratio to add a stinger? I've been using the lunkerhunt frogs with a stinger and my ratio is dramatically better

    20mins in and I'm loosing my mind. I have the same issues with frogging. my favorite style of fishing but, my hookup ratio is trash.

    • @spcpoplawski
      @spcpoplawski 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m no expert but frog fishing is my favorite as well. What helped my hook up ratio was: bending hooks out, waiting another second before setting, and always cast right back to a missed bite (sometimes they strike to stun bait then come back and finish it).

    Hey man, love the video and always enjoy watching it! Tournament day causes all fisherman to fish a little faster than normal.

    I would've loved to see where you placed if you hadn't missed all those fish...
    Not rubbing it in, being serious! Even better if you could've culled that 13....
    That's how those tournaments go...i guess.
    Either way, AMAZING content as usual! Can't wait for future uploads!

      Haha you're spot on. that 13'' killed me but I also have to admit that big one at the end was lucky too. I guess it goes both ways. Oh well, everything has to go right during these tournaments nowadays to get the W with as fierce as the competition is!

I live in Florida but was raised in Salinas, Monterey Bay Area and love Sierra Nevada LOL. Please let me know I would appreciate it. THANK You

    I have a question. What kind of knot do you use the most? I can't tell you how many fish I've lost because of my knot tying.
    I love your videos BTW. Learned I've been doing some things wrong for 30 years. I mostly bank fish but i'm looking into a cheap bass boat soon. I live in Oklahoma city and we have great bass lakes within driving distance. Keep the vids coming. Also, maybe you can do a vid about how you choose your gear such as line weights, reel ratios, how to spool line, stuff like that. You are good at talking to the camera.

    Was worth the 40 minute watch. Weird you weren’t hooking up on all those frog bites. Saw a couple where they just either missed it or tapped it, but the ones that actually hook up or took the frog wasn’t fish on to the yak. Anyways keep them lines tight brother, keep it up. I’ll see you one day out in the waters.

    I don’t enjoy anybody rushing and fighting circumstances that are often not controllable. Fishing to me should be enjoyable or else why do it? Why stress yourself out so much? Some anxiety may help performance but too much destroys it. ❤

    Most tournaments don’t allow motors, nice to see them allowed here. I’m trying to rig up a motor (like the NK 180) using the Native’s existing steering and rudder system rather than put in foot pedals or use a tiller. It looks like Greg’s Torqeedo has a similar steering system using the native’s rudder to steer.

    Hey man! Been watching a lot of your videos. I’m looking to get into Bass fishing out of the kayak a lot more this year. I did some last year but plan on getting a bigger more stable yak this year.
    If you had to give my one good piece of advice, what would that good pice be as I’m just getting started?
