    Going by the menus, this set, or at least the chassis, is made by Vestel/Beko, which had the bad habit of disabling NTSC playback in software; the point is: if you investigate the service manual you may be able to enable it back in the OPTION values section.

    I'm actually quite surprised it doesn't play VCDs, because most DVD players, even entry level DVD players, could play those back then.

      Good point, I used to have a Wintel DVD player with scart RGB and that certainly was VCD compatible as well.

    Nice video! I have two Orion TVs, both VHS combos. They have a fabulous picture quality!

    Lovely little crt, orion and teac both do great jobs to include scart input function on their tvs back then.

    I have it (in the UK) as the Roadstar TVD-1051, it's exactly like yours, but the case is fully painted in Silver. I had the exact same issue with the remote, and I got it fixed only when using a Logitech Harmony 350 (a no frills model, 19 quid) and I got it going by applying the remote profile of the American version, the Memorex MVD2009CB. If you also search around by this model, you'll be able to find the service manual for it, although it's for the version with NO SCART input.
    It's a brilliant little tv set, I'm very surprised, as you were, at how good this set is.
    Cheers!

      Awesome and thanks for sharing the background info that you researched to get it going. Looked up the roadstar brand and found an ad with your exact model and I can see very much a portable on the road branding indeed!

    I think I saw a model of TV like this at JB Hi Fi in around 2004 or so, they had other TVs with built in DVD players, and I think this one was more expensive than the others they had. I suspect this TV made have been designed for use in campervans and caravans etc, that's why it's so small. Either that or it's just meant for use in small bedrooms and kitchens and the like.

    • @rgbrob
      @rgbrob  ปีที่แล้ว

      Your right, 100% the intention was for campervans etc. Hell of a tv for being so unassuming.

    This set is awesome!!! I picked up a U.S. version several years ago out of a Salvation Army dumpster. Mine is just a bit different looking (less rounded more square).
    I think they tossed it due to the dvd player not reading discs. Which I remedied by swabbing the laser with IPA.
    I purchased a factory remote from eBay for ten bucks free shipping and use this little tv all the time, mostly to test consoles I’ve repaired/modified. It has a fantastic picture!
    Edit: that US model you showed is the one I have.

      great pickup, missing remote is a common theme with this tv. Thanks for the feedback on the US model!

    Thanks for the video! I just picked up an NTSC version of this TV (Toshiba branded) a few days ago. Interesting to see how the PAL version compares.
    I noticed the tube, while Orion branded, is made by Panasonic and is the same tube used in the JVC TM9/TM10 broadcast monitors.

    • @rgbrob
      @rgbrob  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well there you go. Good observation, Orion doing a better job than Panasonic and JVC!

    these are awesome - these must be similar to those i saw on the coach replacement buses for the v line. i wonder if those had rgb

    • @rgbrob
      @rgbrob  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol unreal. The old bus with a CRT at the front but rarely ever turned on. Low milage crts from older buses the next big thing!

    • @Richtr8
      @Richtr8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rgbrob maybe! this was a coach bus - i believe it sported two CRTs mounted into the baggage stow for passenger viewing on either side
      would be a great opportunity if there was ever the chance to have a day with the camera going over the internals of such a system

    It's all too common on old or cheap PAL TVs that they only decode NTSC 4.43 but not NTSC 3.58, so NTSC consoles won't display colour over composite.

    this is great ,
    i have the same size "Orion TVR1000MX
    but with VCR/VHS no DVD , and no scart only composite ,,,etc
    the picture/color and contrast on this tv is amazing for 10inch tv ,
    in Kuwait "middle east " most TVs support 110v to 240v , 50/60hz ,
    most of them sharing the same connections from US version like " composite , s-video , component ,
    but very rare to find TVs with scart , some models from Samsung , LG golden eye , thomson ,Daewoo,disney,funai come with SCART, i have some with scart RGB connection , but still hard to find,
    i think in Arabian gulf " there is many TVs models look the same like UK/Europe TVs but NO or few with scart , but most TVs we have come with composite at least , and s-video, component,
    my friend gave me yesterday 2X very rare "sony kv- ar14m80 ", its 14inch tv with composite in/out , s-video , and component, with RF Too😅 , but the problem is one of them not working at all , and the other one turn on and off quickly with not picture but if try with step dawn transformer from 240v to 110v , its work , but with broken /wrong colors with very strong red/pink color all the picture,
    this model" kv- ar14m80" support pal/ NTSC , 60/50hz,110 to 240v , the sound quality stereo and base on this TV is very clear and loud .Unusual for 14 inch TV 😍
    i wish someone can help how to fix theses small monsters.
    thank you and sorry for my poor English.

      @rgbrob  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your message and I understand your English well! Pity about the 2x KV-AR14m80 being faulty. At least in your part of the work some scart TVs are present, albeit rare to find where you live. Keep up the good work of finding more CRTs!
