I've been watching your operation since you were on the Prospectors. I loved that program and I love yours better. You explain the mining process very well. Aquamarine is a beautiful stone. I've been a rock hound for some years now and totally enjoy watching the pros obtain the stones. I just subscribed to your channel

Spent a day on Antero many moons ago and found nothing. But, I had no idea what and where to look as it was well before The Prospectors show. I've since bought a few from the Busse's.
Oh be still my heart those Auqamarines are beautiful...just need someone with a copter to haul you up the mountain....be able to spend more time there, do u camp out up there or surrounds
It would b a true blessing to have a piece of my birthstone from that mountain I have prayed for the day u would finally see the beauty i told u about.....
Hey I am a rockhound who has recently moved to the centennial state. I know a lot of mt. Antero is under claim but I wondered if you knew any claim owners who allowed guests to pay to dig or anything like that. I haven't had much luck on BLM site I.e. i haven't gotten quite the hang of actually finding the information I'm looking for. Wouldn't want to jump any claims or collect illegally but it would be incredible to be able to collect some aqua myself.
I was actually wondering the same. I am on the hunt for my birthstone to collect for myself from nature, just feels more special that way. But I'm actually going to reach out to some claims, you can find some contact info if you dig around
@@benjantzen8910 mind your own, there, Big Boy! You probably couldn't make it half way up Antero without oxygen! There are plenty of women who prospect. Ask Craig's wife! So back off. There's plenty to go around.
That area was known to the Antero regulars long before the Busse's showed up. I found evidence of blasting in the central core above the slide (wires) and I would not be surprised if it was Chuck Barnes that blasted it in the 70s. There was an obvious pegmatite core up in that area up above it that was blasted. However there is more to it than meets the eye. I saw the Busse's found a really huge aqua in the slide area a few years back which was incredible, but I hit 5 pockets before they were there that ran up the ridge right next to the talas slope just to the north. Just above where the crew was working in this video, the first pocket had double terminated 6" smokeys. About 30' up there was an intact pocket that had smokeys and topaz-the topaz was slightly broken up but with a central core about a quarter in size and just sitting there in plain site. Then about 30 feet higher I hit the jackpot. A aqua pocket full of matrix and crystals. One was about 5" long with multiple terminations at the top. The pocket produced about 200 small aquas that were all completely clear but only about 1-2 millimeters thick. About 15 feet above that pocket, I found another pocket that had 5 aquas that were clear and about 3 cm in width. Then I found an aqua just sitting on a ledge that was just under the diameter of a quarter and had a small aqua that was embedded in the top at an angle; it's clear and no one would ever want to facet as it's a one of a kind. About a year later I found another section that joined as the bottom of it close to the same location. Both were sitting on a ledge in plain site. When I was digging out the major pocket I found up there, I saw material was slipping into the cracks behind the pegmatite (the faults trend southeast) but there was no way for me to stop it so I would not be surprised if aquas fell into it. When I came down off the mountain, I showed the aquas to the people camping that were retires from the NGS and they were surprised I found aquas that large from there. As I mentioned, this area was not anything new to the locals (I grew up in Salida) and I don't intend any disrespect to the Busse's but from my standpoint it doesn't fall into the category of a valid claim. Many of us that have been traveling up Antero for years would not claim an area that everyone already new about and was considered open to digging. If the area can't provide a sustained income source, it should not be a valid claim and that is the case for the spotty nature of finding gems on Antero. We all got along and had no issues with general prospecting before it was documented on tv. We also respected areas that appeared to be major finds; when I was working up there, the Arizona couple that was blasting the tunnel on the south side of the mountain were respected as far as their claims and area they were working. The prospectors show caused nothing but problems for may of us 'old-timers'. Which is why I'm disclosing some of the results I've had from before prospectors showed up... Ever since prospectors I haven't felt I could even go up there and feel safe. Especially with Texans with security forces with rifles; something we never had all the time from when I was kid (and I'm a hunter). Do we really need to close off the entire mountain? BTW; Intact pockets are the prize!
