DS 9: An avantgarde alternative to popular executive cars

  • Lexus and Infiniti will tell you from bitter experience that taking on executive-car heavyweights like Audi, BMW and Mercedes at their own game is nigh-on impossible, such is the stranglehold that the German 'big-three' have on that sector of the car market.
    However, if there's one company that should be up to the task it's corporate juggernaut Stellantis, and that's precisely the task facing the DS 9.
    Stellantis? DS? Don't worry, you're forgiven for being in the dark. Stellantis is the huge conglomerate that now owns multiple car brands such as Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall, Fiat, Jeep and several others. DS is another of those brands, and it's a French luxury marque that was once a part of Citroen's portfolio, but which has now been spun off into its own separate entity.
    The DS9 is a more avantgarde alternative to popular executive cars such as the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and offers luxury, practicality and quality, all rolled up in an exotically styled saloon-car package. But is it any good?
    Rebecca Jackson finds out in this CarGurus UK video review, which looks at the car's practicality, pricing, quality, equipment, technology and what it's like to drive.

    Nice car and compared to its rivals it's excellent value for money. It's basically a 508 Peugeot in disguise as exemplified by the drivetrains on offer. I do think it'd be better suited to a diesel being a diesel driver myself. I also wouldn't call 8 secs to 60 that slow, my car takes around 10 tho'it feels quicker than that given that o have the diesel torque to help. I think the DS9 if I could afford such a beast as even it is far too much money would be the one I'd have over the BMW and the Audi simply because everyone one goes for the German cars and if it was me I'd have the DS9 purely for something different.

      I don’t think so, electric cars are inherently more reliable than ICEs since there are so few moving parts. They are generally coupled with a ICE that is very under stressed due to the electric component. So far they seem to be showing rather good reliability scores compared to the complex alternative ICEs.

    Looks very nice, but is simply way too expensive and is saddled by poor powertrains. Such a car needs the option of a bigger and silkier engine in its lineup.
    It's not as if they haven't got one; they could pinch the 2.9 V6 that Alfa Romeo use and detune it and offer it in the DS9.
    If not, the car should be wholly electric.

  • @mirkozlikovski9553
    @mirkozlikovski9553 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    the only real flaw of this car is the fact that it was supposed to be launched in 2018... so, basically, you were testing a 5 years old model that is not only over its "mid life face lift" age, but - since these days the model average life cycle is 6 or 7 years - is a model that should be practically approaching the end of "its market life"!!!
    so, Rebecca, despite your general dislike of french cars, you could give it a bit of a slack....it's not cars fault that PSA/Stellantis management meddled so long with its launch that today it looks a bit "outdated"... because, the car is brilliant in what it's supposed to do! to drive its passengers in ultimate comfort, surrounded by the interior, full of high quality materials which are treated with incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail...

    • @changsangma1915
      @changsangma1915 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know what basis its considered outdated, maybe few bits of tech & features. But design detail wise this is leagues beyond current cars out there. The new Honda Civic is what fits your argument.

    • @mirkozlikovski9553
      @mirkozlikovski9553 2 ปีที่แล้ว

       @Chempu Sangma yes, it's quite outdated by tech & features, infotainment especially... and design wise too, cause it's kind of a "first-gen" stand alone DS model, where they were rather "conservative" with its general design (in sense, it's easy to see P 508L in its silhouette, interior almost identical to a segment lower DS 7 crossover)... in 1. half of 2018, when it was supposed to be presented and marketed, it would be "judged" quite differently on such test drives. now, almost 5 years later, these things shows, despite the fabulous craftsmanship and attention to details its cabin offers to the passengers...
      if you look at new DS 4, you can see that it is "completely different story" in all respects, except in the level of craftsmanship and attention to details

  • @herlam1980

      Maybe in the UK cause You all are snobs for German brands, no insult intended , I own a DS7 Crossback , it holds value better than Germans , much better car than an equally specked Audi or a BMW. However journalist always try to put DS against sporty offerings from other brands, and DS brand isn't targeting that audience . Its all about comfort and luxury, and they do it much better than bland and tasteless Germans. To get that kind of comfort and tech inside u need at least 50% more money on top, for that kind of price You can easily buy a second weekend sports car and enjoy best of two worlds.
