    Turn the old flue outlet through the wall into a closable air vent. In summer it will allow the hot air to extract and in the winter it will give you combustion air/oxygen for your stove.

      @@SimpleLivingAlaska Ok simple is this way and more healthy tasty protein my friends... CATCH & CLEAN guts and scrap off any scales. DO NOT CUT HEAD, TAIL, OR FINS OFF, DO NOT. TAKE CLEANED OUT fish and fry in plenty of butter in 14 inch cast iron skillet till skin and find are crispy and crunchy. Then put on plate, head will be easy to take off, the bones by then will pull right out. Take hold of back bone near head part and slowly pull out skeleton of bones. All small bones are soft and will chew put and swallow just fine, sprinkle salt & pepper and Enjoy. The fins if fried up right should be salty and crunchy like a potato chip and full of protein , so is the skin. You only throw out guts, head take off after frying and is on plate. ONE IMPORTANT THING YET,, DO NOT TURN FISH BUT ONCE, FRY UNTILL CRUNCHY AND BROWNED THE SKIN REAL GOOD..THEN do the same to other side.. I do my rainbow trout that way, my dad taught me that when I was 12 yrs old.. Second cooking method, after cleaning guts out and rescaling, Line cake pan with foil, put 1 or 2 nice fish in there and put a 1/2 stick of butter cut up in there, sprinkle garlic powder, a little salt and pepper, and 3 table spoons of juice from a fresh Lemon 🍋🍋, seal up foil with no pin holes and bake in oven on 300 between 60 and 90 minutes or so, you can try 350, just make it more on the slower Side when baking, but not to hot.. remember cook LOW AND Slow for the most part anyway.. try putting a slice of lemon 🍋 some time Inside foil to try that. Experiment that way using different spice for different tastes.. good luck... Oh, one other thing, try making vegetable soup and put some cat fish fillets in that with oregano, garlic powder, salt, Cilantro, white sweet potato cubed up..a dash of Cheyenne pepper, some canned or frozen spinach, and mushroom slices...try a jalapeno pepper, and some brown rice, and a couple of sweet mini peppers...should be mighty tasty, AND when no meat or fish is used, you can put pinto beans instead..now you have a tasty meal...when my recipe book comes out, I can send you one, it will be on plant nutrition for good health...The name will be, How I Lost 97 Pounds and Keep it Off... Have fun up in Alaska... Harvey

      You might want to consider not allowing the fish to flop on the bottom of the boat. Their protective slime is removed, skin is damaged and bacterial and fungal infections set in, and a lot of those released fish die.

    This may come off as strange, but with how often we see you cook, I honestly like it even more seeing y’all eat. There is something more relatable and real being there to see the fish (or any food y’all produce) going full cycle from swimming to cleaning to cooking to eating and in a way, a lot of times, it goes right back into your garden and land through compost. Keep up the hard work, and love the long vids! Love you guys.

    I have to say, visually this is hands down one of my favorites. In the sky looking down on God's country, the under water views of the fish in action, the cabin progress, the sweetness of your relationship, and we can't leave out the amazing food.
    Very professional job editing 👏👏

    • @suzannes5888
      @suzannes5888 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Right? The bears were probably to big to get through that 30 years of overgrowth fueled by the river waters....now that they have clearef one (water accessible) path of ingess/ egresd 😐😯🥺...it'ill be interesting to see. They are an adaptible couple and disciplined about carrying their weapons. Time will tell, but I think they'll figure it out....clearly the east (land) side will be of more concern....we'll see.

    I agree with Mary I'm 77 and I found you guys just a short while ago on TH-cam and I'm addicted I was ip one night till almost 3:00 in the morning watching one of your episodes..lol
    And I agree the two of you work so smoothly together I don't know what your background is but you are so experienced how you do your food how you cook everything that you do is just fascinating how easily you make it look. I love your dogs I assume one of them is an older boy and the other one is a young buck. This is the first summer one that I've watched fantastic. When I was little girl about five six we lived across from a river and my dad wud go fishing take me with him ( daddy's girl) and when he cleaned the fish he taught me how to do it. I can remember as a little one him talking about the fish eggs in it and how everyone would pay a lot of money for those eggs little did I know he meant caviar...lol. absolutely beautiful in the summertime may be able to go down the river in your boat it's so peaceful. I brought back memories of growing up by a river and spending time in the summertime on a rowboat.
    After you cook that fish I was starving I could just imagine how it tasted
    God bless you both and your doggies 😍

    My mother and her green eye cousin, Miss Viola would have went in after that big ole pike. Those ladies fished every day God sent. And, we cooked on the bayou. Nothing better than fresh fish cooked on a camp fire. Keep a long pole for pushing off. That is how we do it. Live the good life, guys.

    Nice job on the cabin. I install wood stoves and chimneys. Even though you've already put your pipe through the roof, you might want to consider going with a Class 'A' triple-wall chimney stove pipe through the roof, and double-wall black stove pipe down to the stove. The triple-wall offers you superior fire protection, and the double wall black pipe construction keeps the outside cooler and thus reduces wall clearances to 6 inches and ceiling clearances to 8 inches. Plus a "cathedral" box, I recommend a DuraTech® Vaulted Ceiling Support Box, depending on the pitch of the roof, to further offer more fire protection.
