      I mean it is literally engagement ring (amulet) and wedding rings (band of matrimony). Except in Skyrim you do not give that amulet to whoever you wanna propose to instead you wear it to show that you wanna marry to someone and if they agree then there is a wedding after which you get rings.

    The destroyed PS4 story completely broke my heart. It’s like if your hobby was painting and your partner came in and destroyed every painting you’ve ever made and threw away all your painting supplies, only to then “gift” you with expensive new canvases, paints, and brushes. Yeah, the materials are replaced, but the thing that mattered to you is destroyed and you cannot replace the time, effort, and results of your passion. I almost got out of my seat and walked away like Ian did 😤

    • @kartrix1
      @kartrix1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +29

      While it hurt and cringed to hear that, I do think breaking up was a little overboard - mainly because the issue didn't seem to be about a betrayal of trust, but rather it seems like she misunderstood the nature of how gaming/games work and why people do it (which happens a lot with people who don't play games). I get that this can be something this guy can't come back from and he may need some space, but it also seems like she understood what it meant to him at the end of it and can move on to have a better understanding of the other person - given that they had no issues before and she didn't seem to be malicious.

      @@kartrix1 I dunno... I feel like she shouldn't have needed a comparison to understand that she hurt her partner. And the fact that she didn't apologize right away after he told her what she did hurt him so bad is a problem. I'm also not entirely sure I believe her when she said that it wasn't about TikTok. I mean she got the idea from TikTok and had her friend record it all for her... And like they said in the video, I don't necessarily believe people when they're like "Oh, we've never had any issues in our relationship." I feel like even if he didn't realize it, this was a wake-up call. Sad stuff all around regardless, though. :\

      @kartrix1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@TheKat12364 I get she broke it, but once he was able to explain it in a way she could understand - she did. It doesn't undo what happened, but I think about how open she was to sit down, communicate and really listen to the other person the way they did in the end - that's the toughest part of a relationship, she was willing to look past her pride and learn why it's wrong.
      You don't have to be right all the time, but being able to do that on both sides is typically a healthy sign.
      Breaking up is completely that guy's choice and whether or not they can look past it is completely up to them and that's okay. But, I do also think the fact that they could sit down and have a heart to heart is a good sign and a shame.

    The story about the husband who was obsessed with Final Fantasy gave me flashbacks to my crappy emotionally abusive ex who was also obsessed with video games (and hated spending time with me). Especially the part where he gaslit her so much, she started to question if SHE had the unrealistic view of relationships. I felt that in my soul. Like, even if it all was just a complete misunderstanding and the gf now realizes why what she did was wrong, that’s not something that you just forget about and move on from. It’s not about the fact that it was a ps4, which is what they all fixated from. It’s about the complete lack of understanding, communication, and respect that you have to have for this to happen. And it’s also because she literally smashed his property to bits in front of him with a hammer. That’s actually scary, especially in the moment when you don’t understand what’s going on. That’s a moment when you realize your partner has the capacity for violence towards you or your things and you can never unsee it. So it's awesome to hear Ian say that that man needed to mourn his Animal Crossing save file because that is exactly something that my therapist would have told me I needed to mourn. 700+ hours is a HUGE investment, it's not insignificant.
    Granted I'm not going to mourn as intensely or as long as say a death of a family member, but I do need to take some time to process it all and mourn it.

If this wasn't true then women's suffrage was a lie and would be a lie today wouldn't you agree. You can't use the exception to the rule as the defining rule, women have made great achievements through history but only a handfull have held power, power to change the very existence of human integrity.
      That being said men have always held empathy because its empathy that creates rebellion when a man of power is unjust, anger too is a subset of empathy, to see your entire people slaughtered it makes you sad and angry to a point where you want to fight so it wont happen to fellow villagers, sometimes you stop, sometimes you become so infused with rage that you become the monster you were fighting and the cycle forever continues.

    Thats so sad. As a child i was obsessed with spongebob. Who isnt? 😅 and that obsession went into adulthood. Once i got my first job at 18, i then would buy anything SpongeBob that i saw when i would go anywhere. Plushies. Playing cards. Chocolates. Clothes. Anything lol. I would collect the entire cast 😂 i loved it and was so proud of it. I had a book shelf covered with stuff. For years. And my little siblings ruined it one day. Devastated me. So i threw it all out and never collected anything again. But at the time, i could care less who made fun of me. But really no one did but my mother of course ugh. But my friends thought it was adorable. When they would see something at a random store they would buy & give it to me to help add to my collection because they knew how happy it would make me. When i came home to find it destroyed, it broke my spirit. I would love to start another collection someday. But the thought of all that work to be followed by loss, saddens me. I learned that day to not care about items. But more on people. Which im glad for. Now i could care less when things get broken. It happens. Nothing is meant to last forever. But man i wish i still had that collection. Im 30 now. I can imagine how enormous it would be today 😂 but yea, fuck what people think lol duh! Do what makes u happy. Thats what life is about 💯 ❤

    About the guy with the PS4, I think a point that wasn’t discussed it’s the “violence” fact. Like I would be disturbed if out of nowhere my partner smashes my switch (even if it’s a surprise, there’s an element of destruction) that would make me reconsider their behavior for future situations. I don’t think he was in the wrong from broken up with her tbh.

      That's a really great point! That would be a scary moment to be in - someone loudly destroying your property with a hammer, and you have no idea where this behavior is coming from, if it's going to escalate, why they brought someone with them while they do this... that's a chilling moment. Even if he could rationalize the situation later, I would imagine his feelings of "this is a safe and predictable person" would have changed at a gut level. I can see why, even if he was able to understand her point of view, this was so upsetting he couldn't move past it.

Like after the first or second time he tried to explain, even if I didn't get it, I would still say sorry and try to make it up to him because I could see that it effected someone I loved a lot.
    I think that's why he didn't want to stay. Even if she couldn't understand, she didn't even try to empathize or make it better until she understood. Sometimes it's better to see that you did wrong and fix it and then try to understand why it was wrong before doing something about it.

If it hurt someone, ask for THEIR logic and reasoning. Understand it from the point of view of their values. You don’t get to decide whether they are “allowed” to feel that or if they’re being “irrational.”

      It’s not about how important a ps4 is to any given person, it’s about if your partner can understand and recognize they unintentionally hurt you and can apologize. And she couldn’t, so he broke up with her.

Like Damien said, for a lot of people who don't play games it might seem silly because they don't take games seriously, but I think independently deciding to destroy something of your partner's - especially something irreplaceable that they invested so much time into - is a red flag that should be understandable to anyone. You don't get to decide how much sentimental value something "should' have to a person, even if you can't relate to it.
    I have a Skyrim save that I haven't touched in probably 10 years. At this point chances are I'll never play it again, but that save file is going to live on my Steam cloud forever because it holds memories for me, even if those memories happened in a virtual world.

      Apparently sitting down and having an actual civilized conversation instead of going straight to violence takes so much brain power that an old computer can process.
      Whether you did as a joke, surprise, or otherwise, it makes you SUS. There are better ways to present someone with a gift but she chose an outlandish method that had a low percentage of making her partner happy.

    With the smashed PS4 story: I still have my childhood XBOX 360. I’ve had it since 2006, it came with me when I went to college. I spilled a glass of wine in the ports and thought it was done for, but after leaving it on its side for about a month (I was too scared to turn it on) it still works perfectly. It’s been through the majority of my life with me. It’s an almost 20 year old console. My dad taught me how to play video games on that console. There were times when everything in my life was extremely turbulent and distressing, but for those few hours when I could just sit down and play Viva Piñata, I could just exist and be okay.
    If someone smashed it right in front of me, I don’t know if I could ever speak to them again. I certainly wouldn’t ever trust them again. My heart goes out to that guy.

    Adding to the "childish interests" convo in the second story - a lot of people who had unstable childhoods were forced to grow up FAST, and often weren't allowed, or didn't allow themselves, to enjoy things made for children when they were children. When they seek these things out as an adult, they are healing from that trauma. I'm not saying every 35 year old taking themselves on a fun trip to Build-A-Bear Workshop is an abuse survivor, but indulging your inner child is a legitimate therapy method. The child that you were doesn't disappear when you turn 18. You can repress them and deny them comfort, but that child will always be a part of you. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you can embrace everything that you are, and you'll be less likely to judge other adults for watching cartoons and playing with Legos.

      This makes me think of the short story ‘Eleven’ by Sandra Cisneros.
      ‘What they don't understand about birthdays and what they never tell you is that when you're eleven, you're also ten, and nine, and eight, and seven, and six, and five, and four, and three, and two, and one. And when you wake up on your eleventh birthday you expect to feel eleven, but you don't. You open your eyes and everything's just like yesterday, only it's today. And you don't feel eleven at all. You feel like you're still ten. And you are --underneath the year that makes you eleven.’

    I understand the quitting gaming after all those hours and memories destroyed from the PS4. I'm an artist and lost the desire/drive to draw for 2 full years, when all of my collection of art, sketchbooks, and supplies were disrespectfully thrown out by family members during my parents' messy divorce. Shit like that literally BREAKS you, and it makes it incredibly hard to find the enjoyment in it again. . . At least for a long while, in my experience 💔

    Something to be mentioned with the ps4 story is that causing your partner intentional pain emotional or otherwise, with the intent of being the person who makes them feel better, is manipulation and abuse. It is a tactic often used by narcissistic people. I wouldn't be surprised if the family pointed out other instances where shed done similar things that might have affected his decision to leave. My ex admitted to intentionally making me cry so he could cheer me up. He thought it was sweet. Its a tactic to get them to see you as the hero, the savior, the person they trust when really they are the one causing the pain in the first place.

    • @viviandingdong
      @viviandingdong 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      This is such a good point. My ex did the same thing. It gets tiring once you know the charade and they get pissed/dismissive if you don't give the reaction they're trying to milk out of you. Like you said, the person purposefully causing you pain should not be the same person you go to to feel better. Took a long time to learn.
