Seriously, the commentator is chewing gum and it is really annoying. I'm checking out how well all of the fire crew, in the air and on the ground. Great job everyone. God Bless you all.
I love the commentator. He does a lot of the KTLA 5 fire coverage. It's more fun than a scripted newscast with grimly serious announcers. This guy makes some hilarious "hot mike" comments. I've never heard him say anything inappropriate, but he's like the office comedian in the next cubicle over. Affable but when he needs to do some comment bursts, he's all business. He actually knows a lot about fires, the air and ground resources, etc.
People mentioned gum-chewing. I don't think so. It sounds to me like the commentator is just breathing into the mike. He does that on every broadcast I've seen for KTLA 5 fire coverage.
I have to say, that school evacuation looked rather haphazard. I'm sure they had a plan, but in practice, I wouldn't want a school's worth of kids running down sidewalks with live traffic in the lanes next to them--not to mention the parents swooping in, blocking the roads to emergency personnel. I worked in a Brentwood Learn-Charter Elementary school and we had every kind of drill you can think of. (I don't know whether, in reality, our evac plans were any better than this one, though.)
If You Know The Fire Is Coming & You Own CATS, Please Place Your CATS In Their Carriers Before You Escape With Them & Before All HELL Breaks Loose In Your House Because Your CATS Will HIDE OUT In The CHAOS !!
Seems like putting those ground crews in some 4 wheel drive side by sides with CAF systems combined with some well placed back burning would be a better utilization of all those resources
No, you can not make a fire break that stays for many hours with some foam, and that's what they do, most importantly. Scraping a small band without fuel in the ground. That's not needed here because the fire stayed small. You need the fire break to put it somewhere where you expect fire hours later, when you know you can not handle so much fire front of grass fire at the same time. Also, they often need to get brush and wood out of the way. They have some chainsaws usually.
I saw another fire video 2.30 hours from the beginning, it's sad they could save the houses and did nothing. Owners shouldn't live their houses, there was no effort from firefighters to save the houses, and some others took video of the fires, took the fire hours to burn the houses one by one. I was shocked. And the damage fir the planet and the environment great.

I agree that it’s very annoying.

Beautifully placed water drop by that helicopter. Thank you for getting this on air quickly.
Yeah, those drops are precision. A little to the left and the force of that much water could blast the line of firefighters right off the hill.
Split personality exactly Sur48?
