      Folding a fitted sheet is actually very simple and very easy. These newer "safety" cans are NOT safe, because they are difficult to fill, difficult to use especially on smaller tools like weed eaters, trimmers, chain saws etc

    Always amazes me that the solution to tiny amounts of fuel being spilled and evaporating from open/broken vents on a small percentage of cans was to make sure everyone spilled ten times as much fuel every time they use every single can. Gotta love stupid regulations.

      And the the stupid peopid who came up with the idea behind these cans. If it isn't broke..don't fix it! I still have one old plastic can I use with a top that simply screws off and has the nozzle inside. Pull it out, screw it on, unscrew the vent cap and blamo! Easy! I'll never get rid of it but do wish I could find another one like it. The people who still have them ain't getting rid of them

      I hadn't gotten the memo on these new cans, and bought a 5 gallon can a few years ago to go with our new log splitter. Turns out I can't lift 5 gallons in one hand and push back the nozzle with the other, and there is no place on the log splitter gas inlet to push the nozzle. Got a nice fistful of gasoline 200 yards from the nearest water. That can went back to the hardware store that afternoon! Since then we found a few older cans at yard sales and flea markets. Then, on a recent trip to Canada, we discovered they don't necessarily follow stupid US regulations...

    • @williewonka6694
      @williewonka6694 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      The real purpose was not to prevent small spills, the regulations are simply a very small part of an overall strategy of destroying the fossil fuel industry. Just try to find consumer grade oil based paint, it's virtually impossible as government has mandated water based paint. It's a completely pervasive approach.

    • @crauchle
      @crauchle 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      California sucks for many reasons but all these regulations do seem to start far east. Insurances covered houses and cars for years with the old cans lol. Who cares? I’ve never heard of OSHA dropping in a residence and looking at gas cans or anything for that matter, do you have any idea what the acronym even is? Auto or home insurance wouldn’t pay attention to this either. Plus can’t imagine God forbid anyone has a house fire in their home or shop/detached garage and the can gets burned up there even being a trace of missing plastic pieces in a dern gas can.
      Oh sorry guys it appears we can’t find a spring that we believe this gas can had at one time, we can’t cover your loss. Get real dude

    • @michaeljorgensen790
      @michaeljorgensen790 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      These "fixes" seem reasonable.....HOWEVER.....
      If fire investigators determine the cause of a fire had anything to do with "fixes" to your fuel storage your home insurance company will have an issue.
      That vent may be OK for deisel but for gasoline that vent you install has to hold about 9 PSI of vapor pressure. With a pop-in vent that is unlikely.

    Don't remove the spring completely. Just shorten it so that it doesn't require so much force. That way it will still shut off the flow quickly when needed. Same with the filter screen. Just poke a hole in the bottom. Fuel goes in quick but still gets a bit of filtering coming out. Good video!

    I bought 3 of those cans the day I bought my green diesel tractor (5 years ago). Luckily I set 2 on the ground to fill. I overflowed the first one because of the fire preventer in the filler neck. What a mess. The 3rd untouched can went straight back to the store. A few months later I was still using those cans. The fill on my tractor is chest height so I end up trying to balance the can on it's spout. For whatever reason when I pressed the valve to start the flow I lost control of the can, the stem popped out of the retaining nut on the can letting diesel go everywhere. Now I use Flo Fast cans with a very convenient pump. Pricey but it makes it easier for this old man. I would have given the cans to a friend but I like my friends.

    Great analysis and fix. I bought one of these cans for my newly acquired diesel tractor. Total headache. Spills while pouring, high lift to the tractor. So I purchased a small battery operated pump with a siphon tube. That only worked for the first 2 gallons as the inside screen was in the way! I have now removed the inside screen. I use a hand pump from back in the '70s. I put the can on top of the car's trunk, screw the pump into the can, run a flexi hose in the filler, then give it a couple of pumps. The siphon effect does the rest. I just have some coffee, and wait until it stops flowing. A little slow, but it beats lifting 5 gallons to shoulder height and holding it there while I spill fuel everywhere, and no motor or battery to go dead at an inconvenient time.
