    There should be way more TH-cam channels about songwriting and arranging than about all these plug-ins. Because making better songs should be the focus. There's no use to make a bad song sound great... but that's what a lot of people are doing. Invest in developing the songwriting, pre-production etc. Create something that feels urgent and has an emotional impact.

    I get those pops and clicks sometimes, I found success increasing the buffer size.

    • @Beatsbasteln
      @Beatsbasteln 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's how it's done, yes. but beware. lots of plugins have worse parameter smoothing on larger buffer sizes. so it's worth it to decrease it for export if you have some quick automation in the project

    Run a dual PC stream. you can either go capture card or NDI via ether net. Use your good System to make your music and monitor sound. And the other System can be a potato it just has to run half way decent, its only going to mirror your other System and upload the stream. Doing this will greatly reduce the load on your CPU making your content creation much easier to do while live. I know im 6 months late but I Hope this helps.

    Nice work! I see the way of using plugins just the same way as i see them with photography and video producing. If you did the best in camera the needs of plugins in post is almost unnecessary

    Hi Nathan. I use Nexus3, VPS Avengerr both with some sound libraries. I do have NI stuff but really hate Maschine as a learning curve so I miss all those cool drum kits and sound banks. I recently got a 1TB SD drive as per your help a few weeks back. Is this enough sounds/synths do you think ?.

    Thanks, Nathan, I like very much your approach :)
    But to be exact and not making confusion you would probably like to admit VSTi are also plugins ;)
    Anyway it is so true about time waste because of gazylion of effect plugins, pretty often the same type (like 1176 from different brands etc).
    I would add a few more things which are causing terrible damage to productivity and not only : huge waste money for things are barely used instead of investing in really useful ones. Another huge waste of time is to manage those gazylion plugins (updates, reinstalls, many different authorization scheme used by many different manufactures). Especially if you are using 2 or more computers (besides mentioned adding confusion what where etc). All those things are adding up so not much time left to do any progress in creation of anything.... I know it from my own experience, unfortunately.
    I believe your approach should be 'prescribed by doctor ' especially for anyone who is just to about begin to let save him/her lots of time and money and focus on the important things from the start. It is much harder to do it when you are already infected by GAS syndrome so good to learn right things at the beginning not to fall into GAS black hole.

      Is there any other way to reach you (maybe discord)? I didn't have a telegram thing, tried to install on it my linux box specially to be able to contact you but didn't receive any SMS code from it as it was promised so stuck in the beginning.

    What is scratch???

    • @NathanJamesLarsen
      @NathanJamesLarsen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scratch = Temporary.
      Scratch tracks are elements that are place holders and just temporary that will be redone eventually when the production is ready for that piece to be finalized.

    you're talking so much about people obsessing over plugins, but then you use arcade output sounds etc., which are literally soooo over-produced with effect plugins. you are just taking it for granted that sounds sound like that, because you can use them without having to actively use effects yourself, but please consider for a moment that sounds had to be processed a lot to even give you these opportunities. and it doesn't stop there. sounddesigners are continuing to push effects' boundaries to provide you with even more samples in the future. that's why we, the ones who love to use lots and lots of plugins, keep telling everyone about it. when you can hear the difference between lots of compressors for example, and know where to use which one, you can mix your drums so good that it's worth it to make a sample pack of that. and then people buy those sounds and think they don't even need to use effects, but they needed them so much without realizing. and when you put guitar rig on your guitars and think your fx-chain is small, because it only has one effect in it, then consider that guitar rig is a multi-fx plugin. it's like adding an entire effect chain into your effect chain. and the effect chains in guitar rig only exist because generations of musicians before us have obsessed over guitar effects and perfected the art of processing guitars until we were even able to formalize general rules for processing guitars. historically speaking music is needing audio effects more and more every single year. it's getting increasingly complex and your music is no exception, even if you don't use the effects actively yourself

    • @NathanJamesLarsen
      @NathanJamesLarsen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you've missed the points I make. I am NOT anti-plugins. I literally say that every single time I talk about plugins that I am not against buying or upgrading plugins.
      AND ... I also strongly promote getting access to ... sounds. And guess what? You are 100% right that EVERY sound library is going to have process sounds so they sound the best they can.
      I think you are really just missing the forest for the trees of my point. I still use a fair amount of effects plugins in my productions - but... I also have been doing it for like 15 years. My advice regarding plugins is not for advanced or expereienced producers but is for those who are putting a strong overemphasis on effects when they SHOULD be more focused on other things first.
      So to truly clarify my point - "sounds first" means that there is a "second" - and that "second" is learning how to use effects and process.
