It took months of intensive work to correct, especially off-the-cuff speaking. I did daily podcast recording, both reading aloud and off-the cuff. A couple years later, my speech is reliably cleaned up and no longer a prominent issue BUT I will always try hard and never again rest on my laurels and take clear, clean speech skills for granted.

Hello Benjamin and thanks for this helpful videos. I'm a college student in Texas who is afraid to speak in public due to my accent, and mispronunciation of words. I tend to forget how to speak in English when they ask me a question. I wanted to tell you also that you should post a video about speaking English for Mexican speakers.
He’s such an engaging person, I even giggled with him when he made a mistake. It’s like he’s really here with me in the room. I wish I could be a teacher like him.
This seems very useful. Definitely going to improve my articulation once and for all! I think the way I'd describe my problem is having a lazy tongue/lazy mouth, living with such a condition makes my life Hell almost on a daily basis. I'm pretty damn sure people often think I am retarded because of the way I speak, so subconsciously I end up talking much quieter because I don't want to draw attention to my speech, but this is a big mistake.. I am now practising vocal exercises, recording my own voice and listening back to it so I can try and pin point on how I can improve my speech, staying well hydrated and even singing along to songs..(when no one is around, lol). I'm basically doing all I can on my own at the moment, haven't gone to any speech therapy classes or anything but I aim to become understood when I talk because I've had it up to my eyeballs with everyone saying "What?" multiple times when I'm speaking. The worst of all though is when someone will say to someone else right in front of me "What did he say?", as if I am so far away from their spectrum that I will not hear or understand them... it makes me feel so pathetic and different, I am unable to enjoy my life like this. End of rant. Thanks for the upload mate, you earned a sub! :)
I wish you well. Hope these exercises help. There's much more to learn about clear speech beyond what I am able to teach in this one video. It's just an introduction.
As someone who read your comment and thought "Wow, so I am not the only one with a problem like this", I want to ask if the exercises worked for you and do you have any recommendations/advice for a fellow lazy mouth person :)
@@golguar9333 I'm gonna be perfectly honest with you here mate, I was trying these exercises out for a couple days but then totally forgot about them so not really progressed yet I don't think. However it is comforting to know there are others with the same problem as me, like you I thought I was the only one too! There was something I was looking into that may help and make a huge difference, look up "Diaphragmatic breathing", if you can learn this it apparently helps you to project your voice more and such. Lots of vocalists and speakers ect do this so it was something I wanted to get used to doing because it may help me to sound more "normal" if you will :D Hope this helps you bro, I know first hand the sheer frustration you have been going through your whole life, will keep you updated btw if I get back round to these exercises and notice any changes. Good luck for now mate :)
@@ChimpScape Thanks for the reply, will have to look up diaphragmatic breathing. Stay strong and good luck in the endeavor. Oh, and if I find something that helps, I'll report it back here :D
Same here with being softly spoken and having a lazy mouth you guys! I'm so glad I'm not the only one, but I'm sure if we put lots of practise in then we'll improve plenty :D Also it took a while but I'm pretty sure I've improved my diaphragmatic breathing, and it makes a huge difference when I'm singing - just have to develop the habit of doing it when speaking now :)
Hello Benjamin! This may be helpful too... To say F and V, your top teeth touch your lower lip . To say W, and to make it different from V, your lips are in a rounded position, that is ,your teeth do not touch your lips to make the W sound. Again, the lips are rounded when you say the letter O...the difference between the w- sound and o- sound,is you slightly push your rounded lips out to say the w sound as in woman, and you draw your rounded lips in when you say 'omen'. (P.S. Many children are taught to pronounce the letter W as 'dablu' instead of ' double U') Regards, from India🇮🇳
Issue is I had very clear speech - but suddenly I am having difficulty in speaking longer sentences with clarity - its like I start very clear but then it gets a bit difficult after some time. I feel as if my tongue got heavy. Hope this helps!

Samee😂😂😂
or just say quick quick quick
Sir, I am thankful to you and would like to appreciate you for your tremendous efforts!
Lots of vocalists and speakers ect do this so it was something I wanted to get used to doing because it may help me to sound more "normal" if you will :D
Hope this helps you bro, I know first hand the sheer frustration you have been going through your whole life, will keep you updated btw if I get back round to these exercises and notice any changes.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one, but I'm sure if we put lots of practise in then we'll improve plenty :D
Also it took a while but I'm pretty sure I've improved my diaphragmatic breathing, and it makes a huge difference when I'm singing - just have to develop the habit of doing it when speaking now :)
Thank you so much, enunciation makes me sound like a whole different person
Quickly quickly quickly quckly kuckly kuckly quackly...damn!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
lol
Glad you're having a go
hardest for me out of all
It's harder than you'd think isn't it?
Fantastic. Thank you for sharing the exercises.
You're welcome.
Love the exercise but after 10 mins. I began to talk in a British accent lmao!
Oh well...
Learn English with Benjamin [engVid] 😂
Wow my uncle still has an Asian accent after living 55 yrs in u.k.you hv done a tremendous 👏 job mate🤭😁
(P.S. Many children are taught to pronounce the letter W as 'dablu' instead of ' double U')
Regards,from India🇮🇳
Yes, thanks
Benjamin, I really think you're the best so far on Engvid! Thanks a lot!
Thanks. I have my favourites, but better not say!
I'm a Filipino and I struggle when communicating with English people. I hope I can improve my English skills now that I subscribed to your channel.
I hope so too!
Issue is I had very clear speech - but suddenly I am having difficulty in speaking longer sentences with clarity - its like I start very clear but then it gets a bit difficult after some time. I feel as if my tongue got heavy. Hope this helps!
Yes, these exercises should help but I would also recommend working with a trained Voice coach. This is something I can provide so do get in contact via www.honeyourenglish.com if you would like more help.
I’m subscribing I hope you keep up the good work.
Welcome, Michellar! Will certainly endeavour to...
You're amazing, Sir.
Thanks for this good lesson.
Thanks for watching
Please keep teaching you're awesome. I'm a native English speaker but my enunciation is doodoo because I used to have a lisp till recently
Thanks

Hope you were ready!
This is an excellent video. I use it with my English students and it makes wonders. Thanks a lot for your contribution.
Wonderful!
Do you have a video about how to pronounce every letter? You made me realize I never learned to speak.
quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly,
I love all the exercises. thanks so much :D
No probs
Thank you Benjamin. You have helped me a lot. Amazing lesson. Much love ❤️
Cool cool
Good excercise for rap clearly too... Thanks
Indeed!
Thank you so much!! There’s times that I speak where I simply feel as if the words I say aren’t pronounced or enunciated clearly or right so this helped me so much!!! 🌷🤍
This is really helpful cuz people always go like "HUH" or "Say that again" or "What did you just say" and stuff like that whenever I speak. It literally happens a minimum of 20 times a day in school lol. It's really annoying. I'll grind this and hopefully I'll stop speaking like an absolute mong
How did it go? Plz let me know as im having the same problem
@@7860092 Yeah it helped me quite a bit. Apparently I've been speaking too quick and I haven't been opening my mouth enough when speaking. Now I speak slower and more clear and people tend to understand what I say pretty much all the time.
Corrupt but this is only for english right?
7860092 It has positively affected my overall talking. Not just one specific language
Corrupt how often did you practice
Thank you for the lesson, Benjamin!
I’m recommended to this video by my online English teacher
Thanks for watching
Thanks a lot man... Im gonna save this one
Glad I could help.
I believe I have a speech impediment as I suffer from lisp but I also grew up saying words like tractor like "chractor" and it sounds awful and a lack of confidence with my speaking makes me nervous so i dont carry confidence in my voice either im hoping this video works
Did it work for you?
What happened?
I also stutter and made a laughing stock in my room.
I say chractor lol
David Kershaw me too. I've never liked my voice. 😢
Thank you so much for your videos!!!! I was raised bilingual and my english never sounds 100% so thank you for the help you have given my life xoxooxo
My pleasure.

Thank God for this video of yours sir!
Glad it was helpful!
I speak with English people online alot. And it really triggers me that they can just say and pronounce everything so perfectly while I sit there not being understood at all. I lisp and studder all the time it's killing me lmfao
Don't let it get you down, you're doing well just to understand everything
@@engvidBenjamin Yeah I know. But I wish I could speak clearly like most of my friends and family. It's really bothering me that I can never tell stories or anything like that because in the middle of the story I start to studder and my voice becomes shaky and unclear and I start lisping and speaking super quickly..
@@Corrupt03 be kind to yourself, nobody is perfect, some people have other weakness, the sooner you relax about your speaking weakness,,the quicker you will improve your speech
