these my hometown boys, I live 17 miles from their Big House & where Duane Allman & Berry Oakley are buried at Rose Hill cemetery right here where Rock n Roll started in Macon Georgia with Lil Richard in 1952! Otis Redding is also from here & many other greats recorded their albums here like Molly Hatchet, James Brown, REM, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Wet Willie, Marshall Tucker Band, Percy Sledge, Elvin Bishop, & so many others! ANYTHING by the Allmans is a fantastic eargasm but my fave is No Way Out - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS!

@@pcraig1383 Man now THAT is the tune that got everybody turning around n asking who the hell is on guitar? Pickett gave him his nickname "Sky Dog" cuz when he plugged into that old Fender amp his playing lifted yu to the clouds. It was Duane's idea n he approached Pickett about Hey Jude n Pickett said he wasn't doing "no song bout no damn Jew" 😆. When they started jamming to Duane's arrangement it just caught fire. At the end Duane, this 20 yr old kid, was putting the Muscle Shoals guys on the edge with his perfect bends and knowing when to compliment Pickett and shine thru but let Pickett's voice still be the upfront sound. I could go on forever about Duane. His untimely death likely changed music. Since the band formed in Macon GA n that's my hometown I can go to the Graves any day. See the shrooms they carved into the sidewalk. The Allman Brothers...yu just can't get better.

Yes and no. Historically, the whipping post is a lot older than when the America’s were colonized and then enslaved. So, yes, slaves were definitely tied to the whipping post. But then again, as an example for Christians, so was Jesus. So were all slaves, indentured servants, poor land workers and alleged criminals. Being whipped on a post is about as old as humanity is.

The anniversary of Gregg Allman's death was just a few weeks ago. Here's what Warren Haynes, Allmans guitarist from 1989-97, said about their impact back in the late 60s: “Here was this group of Southern hippies with an integrated band coming out of the Deepest South with equally deep music on the heels of some extremely deep changes. We didn’t realize how heavy that was at the time but we sure realized how heavy the music was."
    Now do "Revival" or "Jessica."

Mostly because those songs were way to long.. 10 to 13 minutes.. in a time where all sings had to be under 5 to be on the radio. Great song, but I think my favorite is "Nobody Left to Run with Anymore." It came out in 1994 and I think was the last song they released that charted.

Don’t apologize! History is what it is. You have nothing to be sorry about. It’s a statement of fact.

Please hear Desdemona, Jessica, but do Whipping Post live, and watch Gregg and Duane play of each other, toward the end. It's such a lush forest of sound and excellence.

No one ever notices the crash of guitar and organ at the end mimic a whipping.
