    I think this was the kind of promotion where they were like "you kinda do all this stuff already, let's just give you this shiny new title (and a humongous salary) and add you to the C-Suite". I suspect he's actually had quite a bit of say, over the last 1-2 years at least, when it came to overall continuity and Star Wars themes/lore.

      Yeah, he consulted with Rian Johnson on The Last Jedi. I could be wrong, but JJ’s movies seem to be lacking the Filoni touch.

    I like how, once Dave got the new position, everyone just started assuming he was gonna be this micromanaging control freak changing and canceling everything. We've known this man for over a decade and we've never heard of him trying to throw his weight/influence around. Dude's just a fan at heart and I honestly think this could lead to more eras and stories being explored. At least I hope so.

      I think the majority of people who are worried about this are worried because of Dave's treatment of the written media. He pretty much retcons a written canon story every new show he releases, which is certainly frustrating to readers, and he seems to be the only director allowed to be doing this consistently.

      @@alecliningerinteresting point, but if anything, I imagine he'd come at it form the opposite direction; i.e.: he'll prevent that form happening again, byt being more involved with tge written media. Both in being more aware of what's being written and sitting down with writers and discussing and hashing out the details with them before the book it written. Again, I still can't see this as anything but a net positive, lol 😅🤷🏻‍♂️.

    Mangold mentioned that George Lucas consulted heavily with Indy 5's story so it will make sense that he will do that again with Dawn of the Jedi. So it will be nice to see that both George and Dave will have their fingerprints on that movie because I think that one is the easiest to screw up lore wise.

    I think change is always good, because it keeps the teams working at Lucafilm fresh, but the mistake we keep on making as a fandom is believing that change is the only thing we need in order to make sure we like everything that comes out of Lucasfilm. The reality is that our fandom is complex and there will be loads of people that will dislike something no matter what. With Star Wars nothing is universally adored.

    Loved this episode. I always learn more about this universe every week. Totally agree that Filoni being what Lucas wanted to be makes sense. After he directs his movie and receives feedback. He will know enough to be able to guide other writers and directors into turning their ideas into Star Wars ideas.
    I think that with the end of the last season of Mando, it perfectly set up everything going forward. Grogu is now his child. So Din can now show his face to his son ( I think, still learning). Which means "over the shoulder " shots can give the illusion that he takes his helmet off in private with Grogu around. Since it is now Grogu training time, it sets up the random, non linear story telling. I think with all the prior setup from the past seasons, they can do anything now. If it has to connect, it can, but doesn't have to anymore. Love your channel, thank you

    Lucasfilm has been needing a chief creative officer for years and I assumed they would find someone like Kevin Feige to fill that role. Dave Filoni was made head of Lucasfilm animation and I assumed that would be his final promotion because thats what he's best at. By promoting him 2 more times I guess he's proven that he can do more than just work on animation and TV shows.

    The biggest benefit of Dave being involved from the beginning is that they will have to do less hole plugging later down the line ... something I suspect they needed to do a lot of during Ahsoka - primarily because people writing Star Wars books / comics / games / etc were given free reign and went too far off what would have been reasonable.
    Star Wars cannot afford to lose control of their galaxy, especially as they plan for more movies and TV shows across various timelines.

    Q&A: Do you think we'll might see Luke Skywalker to return in either The Mandalorian Season 4 or Ahsoka Season 2 or he might not coming back in either of those two seasons since he is completely absent in The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka Season 1?

    • @DaleESkywalker
      @DaleESkywalker 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I like this question, and I'm pretty sure we'll see a lot of Luke as many expected him to be, especially in Dave's movie. We'll also see why he was beaten down mentally enough to leave the Jedi ways behind and be by himself - away from it all. I'm sure he tried to get through to Ben, but Ben had already made up his mind and wanted to finish what his grandfather started. Ben fell to the dark side to learn what it would take to save the ones he loves. However, a Jedi would teach him the truth.
      Luke explained that he thought he was the problem, essentially. He could turn his father's heart, but not his nephew. As Kylo Ren, he fought turning back to the light because he knew his grandfather fell for all the wrong reasons to make things right, and he wouldn't allow Luke to get through to him.
      There's more, though. I see so many more possibilities I wouldn't even be able to guess which Dave chooses to tell, but I hope it is satisfying to the fandom that fell away because they thought there was no plan. I hope he includes some subtle hints that Palpatine is still alive. That's why I'm excited about Thrawn's return. Luke would feel something resonating through the deepest depths of space. I sense that Snoke would give him a distraction, enough to seem like he's not worried that Snoke is as terrifying as Palpatine was. Leia already feels Palpatine's presence early, with Ben in her womb, but they're all thrown off by Snoke (who is a "good" villain with uncanny similarities). He isn't as strong as Palpatine, and they're not as concerned.

    I've always gotten the impression over the years that first and foremost Dave is just a huge fan of Star Wars. Every time he talks about it, there is never any ego there he's just excited to talk about the thing he clearly loves. I have no reason to believe that will change with his new position. Also, the work Dave and team did with the Clone Wars actually repaired and made the prequel trilogy better by plugging holes and giving us more context to what happens in the movie which makes those films make a bit more sense. One of my favorite things that Dave and team did with both Clone Wars and Rebels is finding ways to use Ralph McQuarrie's artwork as inspiration for vehicles,characters and costumes. I'm excited to see what comes of Dave's new position because with his guiding hand I think we can have a level of consistency across all the stories that this universe has been sorely lacking and with what we saw in Ahsoka he is obviously not afraid to also tread new ground. It's just that he can take us to new places while respecting what has come before.

    I distinctly remember in the early Disney LucasFilm era, they clearly said there was a Story Group to ensure the new rebooted expanded universe, movies, books, comics, games were all on the same page to ensure continuity and accuracy. They also said the Story Group was working hard (pre Ep 7) to ensure to story going forward was a coordinated effort for an "overall roadmap" of the future of Star Wars in terms of the sequel movies and everything created. What happened to the Story Group when each sequel director basically got carte blanche to write and develop their own story?

    I think Star Wars doesn't have the MCU "problem." Marvel is still somewhat bound to their comic book lore, but Star Wars put most of the pre-Disney media into "legends." Sure they can and do still pull from it, but they have more freedom to change it and were already upfront about their intent to do so.

If they're production is practically done, they're going to be released. You mention that marvel has that thing where you have to follow all these different films and shows to understand the next thing, and I do think the "mandoverse" had that issue. Mandalorian season 3 is incoherent if you haven't watched book of boba fett, and if you watch that show without having watched the mandalorian, his extensive cameo is confusing. Ahsoka follows tcw, rebels and mandalorian, and that's sure to lead into the pther shows with Thrawn. How will Skeleton crew fare? All of this is supposed to culminate in a movie, and that just sounds like a disaster. The marvels did poorly and that was a sequel to a big movie and one tv show, so how will a movie that follows up on a tangled mess of half a dozen series do? I'm worried about that

    Franchise fatigue is real. Franchises lose their novelty when they are endlessly expanded upon and operate like an assembly line. It's important to keep an aspect of mystique rather than pump out new installments to fill in all of the blanks. I think it's better for the health of a franchise in the long term to prioritize quality over quantity. I'm more likely to lose interest in Star Wars if they release a bunch of schlock as opposed to nothing at all.

    • @mightheal
      @mightheal 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The current box office issues has nothing to do with franchise fatigue and everything to do with the global economic issues that everyone is dealing with. Viral marketing was what caused the Barbie and Oppenheimer outliers.

    • @gregbocadella02
      @gregbocadella02 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mightheal My comment wasn't in reference to recent box office issues and more so my opinion about the general integrity and appeal of big franchises like Star Wars. My point was mostly that I'd prefer if they were more selective with what gets made and take their time with projects. That way there's more anticipation amongst fans and it's easier for them to avoid consistency/quality issues with less projects and longer gaps between them. Many franchises milk their IP and always release new things as if to meet a quota which often makes them feel less special and gives way to more lackluster installments. I think Star Wars deserves more respect and care than that.
      To your reply, though, I think a big reason why fans rallied behind Barbie and Oppenheimer was because they stood out from the usual summer blockbusters made up of reboots, sequels and spinoffs. I don't think the Barbenheimer trend would've happened if either film was tied to a larger cinematic universe. Even though they were big studio films adapted from existing material, they were fresh and ambitious: a fun bubblegum-themed comedy and intense historical drama both from well respected filmmakers.

      Alex should probably consider that it’s an editing or pacing issue, instead of blaming Filoni for word choice. The grammar is correct. It sounded fine to me and I agree. It sounds like Ahsoka arguing with her master after she’s grown up and she doesn’t understand why she’s having an experience such as this.
      Also, I don’t see why people have to nitpick every little detail that’s a little off to them.

    You are given the opportunity to swap a finished story arc for any unfinished Story Arc in Clone Wars, but the caveat is you can only chose stuff after the show's initial run, so anything from Seasons 1 through 5 is off limits. Which arc from the Lost Missions or Final Season gets cut, and which unfinished arc takes its place and why? We don't need to worry about fitting the current canon if necessary.
    Arcs available to lose:
    Conspiracy of Order 66 (4 episodes)
    The Return of Clovis (3 episodes)
    Jar Jar Binks and the Temple of Doom (2 episodes)
    The Origins of the Clone Army (1 episode) and Yoda's Force Journey (3 episodes) These two connect, but they feel so different.
    The Bad Batch (4 episodes)
    Ahsoka's Walkabout (4 episodes)
    The Siege of Mandalore (4 episodes)
    Arcs available to add:
    Son of Dathomir (4 episodes)
    Crystal Crisis on Utapau (4 episodes)
    Dark Disciple (8 episodes)
    Boba and Cad Bane/Bounty Hunter Arc (4 episodes)
    Kashyyyk (4 episodes) Note that this would include the Bad Batch in the story.
    Rex and R2 Top Gun (4 epsidoes)
    Yuuzhan Vong (probably 4 episodes)
    Return to the Jedi Temple (probably 4 episodes)
    Return to Mon Cala (4 episodes)

    If Dave had been CCO during the Sequels we might not have the disjointed story we got... what they need is a person to say hey you cant do that but you can do this instead... etc etc the trilogy should have been mapped out from 7-9 with a general idea what was gonna happen and where it was going before the writer/directors started.

    I think the fear is less that Dave will micromanage than that he'll try to be overly beholden to George's vision, which might exclude things like Andor from the development slate. Personally I like SW to "feel" like SW and not go to far afield, and whatever our feelings on the sequels, I think we all feel they would be better if there'd been a shared vision / purpose from the start.

    So excited for Filoni to take over as creative officer. But man, season 3 of Mando was disappointing. Everything from season 2's great finale was erased by the Book of Boba Fett and season 3. Din could have had a great story about living with Grogu, could have be the uniter of Mandalore, but he just became a side character. And I mean Grogu isn't much of a character anyway, so it was a good chance to have a few episodes without him, but that was immediatedly removed as well by Book of Boba Fett.
    I hope season 4 is better.

    • @mightheal
      @mightheal 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Grogu has to become a talking character long before he could become the leader of Mandalore. Your comments sound like you let your expectations get ahead of you because season 3 was the most important season for Grogu and set him up to speak in season 4.
      Season 3's issues really stem down to the audience expecting Thrawn to be in the main SW galaxy pulling the strings instead of being in another galaxy waiting to be rescued.

    What I've heard (I don't know if it's true) is that Pedro Pascal was upset in season 1 or 2 that he could not show his face more and threatened to walk out.
    I think, they wanted to have him show his face more later, but to stop him walking out, they made a deal that he could do other stuff and only do voice over for Mandalorian. And now they are stuck with him keeping his helmet on.

    • @DaleESkywalker
      @DaleESkywalker 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Close, but not really... he was required to be on set for filming, and he threatened to quit because of the other offers and obligations. He's happy to come back to be the face of The Mandalorian when needed. He didn't need to be in the suit, while most of the time, he wasn't.
      The studio only wanted to pay him enough for voice-over because the character would've always had the helmet on. They decided to have it off rarely to pay him what he wanted for the role because Lucasfilm wanted the big name associated with the character.
