Lisa Trevor is a literal embodiment of horror in my opinion; she`s been the subject of inhumane experiments for god knows how long, separated from her parents and everything she once knew is gone. And the probably worst thing of all is that she cannot die. The game does not have to explicitly tell you this, its something you pick up on by yourself as you go along. The more recent installments lack this kind of cerebral horror. RE really needs to go back to its roots. The Gamecube Remake is still an excellent game and a clear example of how effective horror can be when cultivated properly. The unique environments such as the hallway with the mirrors, the gallery with the crows watching you or Lisa`s Lair are equally as scary as the worst T-virus abomination.
+DocHazard I don't think it is a matter of roots, but more of a cultivated mindset. Remember, Shinji Makami made RE and it's remake. He isn't with Capcom anymore as far as I can tell.
Cosmic - Chris don't give shinji all the fucking credit! He also made RE4 which ruined horror... it was the original RE1 team that deserves the credit not just the director!! it's like praising ridely Scott while ignoring dan'o'bannon and Giger.
Troy Wright RE was in fact originally going to be a remake of an NES horror game title Sweet Home. Sweet Home was about a film crew making a documentary investigating a haunted house. The plot and inspirating as a remake was given a reference nod in RE7 with the Sewer Gators crew. RE GameCube remake was the definitive experience in being in a haunted house ride, once the horror started the unsettling feel never left you. I'd have to say the titles in the series that retained that were part 2, Code: Veronica, and RE7.
Lisa Trevor is amazingly designed. She is quite intimidating and grotesque, yet so tragic. I felt sorry for her while simultaneously feeling terrified of her. The fact that she is still aware after all of the sick experiments is really haunting. It had to be a living hell for her. What umbrella did to her was disgustingly evil.
Its funny because the old fans love this and hate the RE7. I told you because RE7 is inspired by the first Resident Evil and some people say RE7 is trash.
Both RE2 & RE3 Remakes were great, but I can't call them masterpieces. Neither achieved the sheer perfection that THIS game accomplished. The original RE1 was heavily flawed unlike the original RE2 and RE3. This game is superior in every manner. The atmosphere, the music, it's all perfect. It's literally the perfect Resident Evil game.
If flawed games should be the ones to be remade, I can only hope RE0 gets a good update. I love that game for it's breathtaking atmosphere. But that inventory management.....augh.
I didn't say superior, I said equal. The game has different puzzles and a completely different atmosphere so one does not replace the other. The original still holds up. The Remake is a sidegrade not an upgrade.@@TYLRMN8R
The fact that everything is well-placed in RE makes it largely more suspenseful, which adds a great deal to the scare factor. When you hear a zombie groan somewhere, you know what to expect and the fact you have to approach it adds to the dread; reminds me of how System Shock 2 was set up.

Probably the darkest theme in all the Resident Evil games or for any horror game for that matter. Not just in itself but it’s the story behind that’s completely unnerving. Tragic doesn’t even begin to describe Lisa Trevor’s existence.

I always the same thing about this character too. Lisa Trevor was terrifying yet I found myself SYMPATHZING with her all the same. She wasn't just a monster. She was a unwilling victim of heartless cruelty that is impossible to fathom.
After finding out Lisa's cruel backstory I felt dumbfounded and outright depressed, especially when she screams her last words before jumping down the pit. It really hit me on an emotional level.
lisa trevor is really scary and her story is sad. it is amazing how she is this terrifying monster and how we feel sorry for her after learning what happened to her. The scene where we run into her in the caves is one of the scariest parts of the game. The way she just shows up in the cave. I don't remember any cutscene. I think she just suddenly appeared when we turned a corner in the cave.
Did anyone else pause the game thinking a plan , when they heard the door slam at the cabin and hear footsteps, and see that shadow through the indoor window and say " fuck! its in the house!" cause I did
That room in the caves where you run into Lisa, that's a circular sort of corridor (right after the elevator shaft and before the room with all the candles) constantly appears in my dreams. I just had one last night. I think that spot is one of the scariest in the whole game, and part of that is thanks to this track. It's etched in my mind. It was even playing in the dream...

Not rly cause of what she looks like but her past and that place where she lives really messes u up :( the thing about this game is its connections with the characters not just the main ones but even certain monsters, its really phsycological. This game will remain your masterpiece Capcom.
I played this game the first time this year, and I have to say it beats all the other games that came out this year. the story, atmosphere, music, was insanely good
This is the best of the series, most scary and atmospheric. The graphics are still visually stunning and great sound. We can only hope the series makes a return to this style even if it was just another remake I would be happy. This was the reason I bought the gamecube.
Resi 4 came close but i agree. It just worked, loved it. For those who just wanted to walk around a mansion full of zombies they got that but if they wanted a complex story behind it they got that. I like games that can appeal to casual and more in depth gamers. Resi owns :P
Believe it or not my scariest encounter was a crimson head, especially at the beginning when I didn't know they come back and I only had a handgun. Lisa fight was easy, the scary part was before you got to her, creepy music, her creepy underground lair, her creepy cabin in the woods, her creepy body and scream, that shit was scary! And if you dont give Barry his gun back after he set you up, then you got a tougher fight, still easy, but scary.
@Antichrist2000 Aye; the Trevor sub-plot was meant to be included to reveal the antics of Umbrella. They took it out because they felt it revealed too much too early. There are a few areas that indicate the prior existence of this sub-plot; the most obvious is the gravestone that Jill or Chris fall next to after jumping down the hole that Yawn creates.
Well I read that she was immortal because she was giving a gift that she heals no matter what you wound her with. Like say if your leg is badly wounded and they have to cut it off because they cant put it back. She would just heal. And they used that to their advantage.

I never understood how games like Doom 3 were considered very scary and shocking by the time theyve been released; imho those games could only score with cliche-shockers and darkness. Ever since REmake was released, I can only smile at those claim-to-be-scary-games. One tune of this game and my head starts turning.
this game is the creepiest. because 1: in dead space you can buy ammo and health and in resident evil you have to save up those items to be poor on them. 2: dead space just hasnt got the creepy atmosphere of resident evil and the scary music of resident evil is always there and in dead space the music just comes up when there are monsters. 3: i dont know why but in dead space i always kinda felt when a monster would come :P , in resident evil i always got shocked by some monsters somewhere

There are so many things they did right with the remake of the first Resident Evil; countless things. One of those changes was bringing back the side-story of Lisa Trevor which served to demonize the Umbrella corporation because her tale is a very sad one. Despite how deformed and violent she has become, the monster she's devolved into, she is still just a saddened little girl on the inside. A tortured soul...
@Plummlets it is possible you have to also learn to watch shadows and mirrors though invisible thier reflection is visible also thier foot pirints and dust that floats gives them away

That's why you could buy ammo and health, because there were so much monsters and you almost HAD to kill every one of them. And that's the reason why I think I always knew when monsters would come: because there were so many of them! Also, in Dead Space, the music would come up when you encountered monsters and in RE the same eery music would always be there, no matter if there was something in the room or not.
I am gonna try continuing to play it soon again. But I haven't played it lately, because it's very hard. But I hope I can get to this part one where this music plays
@joker9494949494 In Dead Space you kinda have some standard story of a spaceship being massacred and some aliens are on board and you go in there alone. But Resident is one, massive, perfectly thought-through story. For this game, the music and the cameraposition did it for me. I haven't encountered any other horrorgame with such good music as in this game, and most of the other horrorgames(like RE4 and 5 now) have over-the-shoulder cameras, which just aren't scary cause you can see everything!

I can only assume with that educated guess but yeah. Capcom should remake RE2, 3 and even CV-X.

hiking=easy, mountain climbing=normal. after you beat the game. load your 00/clear game and you can select either easy,normal,or hard

@nuuuukii Lol she was able to get herself water, build a fire and make that makeshift shack in the woods behind the mansion a home and even that underground lair of hers right? Her intelligence was degraded to that of an animal at best but she in a sense I think, began to regenerate slowly in her brain and mind since the G-Virus was found within her and she was the unintended prototype Nemesis so yes. I can only assume with that educated guess but yeah. Capcom should remake RE2, 3 and even CV-X.
