When I did the no save play through , I was panicking every time I encountered them , thinking their head decapitation would force me to play the whole game over again.
I only recently got the privilege to playthrough REMake for the first time, completely blind. I opened the door on the 2nd floor in the Main Hall locked with the Sword Key, walked in, heard the bit at 0:04 and instantly noped out of the room. Such an atmospheric track. Makes me feel dread and terror every time it appeared in the game
And thats one of the many reasons the other RE remakes are inferior to this masterpiece. Improved in every possible way: music, graphics, acting, level design, story... and, best of all, THERE IS NO CUT CONTENT BUT RATHER EXTRA CONTENT. Not only the best remake ever but one of best games ever

Claire A / Leon B were way different and actually made sense chronologically, the same can't be said for the REmake 2 scenarios. Meanwhile REmake even expanded upon the original, adding an entire subplot in the form of Lisa Trevor.

Sometimes I would sneak to the mirror. And you would see the crimson head standing there twitching. You could come from the long hallway bit. And watch it in the reflection standing there twitching. Such a DRASTIC improvement between the GC version and the original PS1 version. This version is infinitely more creepy and sets an amazing tone for the game. The original was good, but this version is untouchable.
The original version of this song never stuck out to me as being creepy in the slightest. This, on the other hand, total 180. And this is coming from someone who generally does NOT like remakes of originals. For instance, I feel Ives Domain (the guardhouse theme) from the PS1 version still has a better composition and instrumentation choice over the remade version. But in the end, it's all about personal preference.

Resident evil remake completely understands the concept of if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Most of the tracks in this game are slightly altered versions from the original game. This particular theme was the second floor theme, both in this and the original. Others include the guardhouse themes, black tiger, the b3 laboratory, the save theme, and the main hall theme when Wesker disappears.
Unfortunately, re2 and 3 didn’t learn that lesson. Re2 remake is a fine game, but they really fucked up the characters and story, and there are a lot of missing game mechanics. Re3 remake on the other hand was awful, changing all the characters, story, and cutting out large parts of the game making it shorter than it already was.
Funny how this track is the one that scared me the most in this game considering the original version from the 1996 game was the one that gave me nightmares as well.
The real problem isn't really the game developers, it's the audiences. I've been reading a lot of interviews Japanese game designers have made recently and all of them pretty much say the same thing. Japanese game developers like making games that have well-written storyline, character development, and intriguing environments. Audiences in the US and the like now just want games where they can shoot something every other second. Game designers cater to where the money is, in this case the US.

This game...this goddamn game never let up at all. That's the way it should be for every Resident Evil game. Everywhere you go, you're wondering if you have enough bullets, herbs, and bravery to survive this hell you're in. No other game in the series tops this, not even the second golden goose Resident Evil 4 (yes I went to there - the Remake is the originator, and represents Resident Evil far better than 4 ever did...bite me, haters).
Plus the remake for the GameCube added Crimson head zombies so if don't gave enough petrol to burn them or you don't get a head shot any zombies you kill come back as angry fast zombies with claws!!

You get the strong feeling you just stepped into the wrong place to take refuge from the creatures outside, even more than you did with the first game. The picture in the video, which depicts the proper location that goes with the song, is a nice touch.

I love the way this contrasts to the old version, because they both establish the tone the game they're in is going for. The originally is supsenseful and mysterious, giving the feeling of something escalating in the mansion. The remake one is oppressive and ambient, like the song itself is getting threatened by the horrors lurking in the darkness. It's really well-done and a testament to Capcom's composers.

You are in a deep feeling of fear, and you wonder: " ... what kind of place is that mansion ?" This atmosphere is a huge part of RE's identity that definetly fits a survival horror. The producers of RE remake managed to make a excellent game. Now, this would be great to come back to this kind of adaptation in order to feel one more time such an unforgettable atmosphere.
I love the very end of this track (now this plays in that corridor with the peridot arrowhead in it - you know the one with the first crimson head?). It connects directly to the dining room, which has the grandfather clock in it :) Subtle little detail but still I appreciated it.

I'm glad I got Resident Evil Remake, because it's such a masterful redesign of the classic game. The altered puzzles, the new areas of the mansion, the improved graphics and in particular the more atmospheric music were all masterfully done and proved that CAPCOM were still capable of making a proper survival horror game that could challenge and creep you the hell out at the same time.
Man this theme used to creep me out so much especially when i had to go on the quest for the sword key and ended up having to go to the mirror room to get the arrow head were that creepy ass zombie kept scaring the crap outta me hearing it's moaning then seeing my characters reflection then seeing that one zombie's reflection out of nowhere coming right at my character still moaning but sometimes i would just approach that zombie and it would be starring at its own reflection theme playing too!!
This game traumatized me when i was around 10, I’ll never forget the nights of staying up and not sleeping because of how scared i was of a crimson head attacking me or lisa trevor coming after me while i was in bed. 12 years later, I’ve beaten this game 10-20 times, this has become my favourite game, favourite in the series, next to the original games, and 7. i own it on ps3/ps4 and yes the original game cube version which is the best, and the origins pack. i also beat every single mode, including invisible enemy mode, and i got the platinum trophy on it. This game will always be my favourite, and this music brings me back to a more simple time in my life. 🌱🔑🧟♂️
Screw the mansion. First time I went in there I was 10 years old. Now I'm 29 and still keep one eye open when I'm washing my head in the bathroom, and must check the door 3 times to make sure I lock it. I work as a guard in a shopping mall, keep looking back when I'm patrolling the hallway at night shifts... and try to keep distance from every door I'm passing... luckily my radio doesn't break for a single time so I can hear my comrades talking constantly.
I noticed that too when I played it. I almost thought every so often that an actual-zombie was somewhere in my house. The lighting, the shadows just make the game the epitome of creepiness
I'm also a huge Silent Hill and Fatal Frame fan, but to be perfectly honest there's still no other game that gives me such a sense of dread. All I remember playing the Forest Speyer strapped w/grenades mode is getting the Armor Key, then I walked into the hallway where the first zombie appears and accidentally shot the bastard, blowing the whole building sky-high. After that I kind of...gave up. I think I'll try it again some day. A personal challenge I suppose.

The first Resident Evil is and forever will be the best survival horror game I've ever played. It was terrifying, but purely creative. When I first entered this old mansion I never though I'd end up fighting a giant snake, sharks and a huge plant.
I definitely know what you're talking about here.. although when I played REmake I already had the original game memorized like the back of my hand. However the puzzle changes did throw me off. Either way, this game brought a whole new level of atmosphere that the original did not have. (love that certain zombies open doors) I remember playing orignal RE in second grade, I would never make it farther than the eastern staircase. I would walk in, hear zombies walking, pause the game, and just sit.
This was so heavy and SARY it wasn't FUN! But I had become hopelessly addicted to the game. This ReMake was the vedry first Saurvival Horror game that I had ever played...That idea that a video game could scare me was HALARIOUS! PUT NIN MY PLACE FAST!
You know when you first played this game and had no clue where you were, what to do and what to expect in that gigantic as fuck mansion? Yeah, that feeling sums this track up. Being in the hallway with that crimson head running around, the fat zombie and that other one lurking by the mirror, and hearing the occasional moan in the background just as 1:20 plays. ''Yeah, I'm turning the Gamecube off now.'' That shit was the scariest. No other game has topped that level of fear in my opinion.

I completed it so many times and even though I know the game so well and know every tweak, it would still scare the shit out of me on my 150th playthrough. Now _that's_ what makes an incredible game!
This was the best resident evil game man. I wish we got a RE2 remake in the style of the RE1 remake, but the RE2 remake we ended up getting was still good

I'm glad I got Resident Evil Remake, because it's such a masterful redesign of the classic game. The altered puzzles, the new areas of the mansion, the improved graphics and in particular the more atmospheric music were all masterfully done and proved that CAPCOM were still capable of making a proper survival horror game that could challenge and creep you the hell out at the same time.
Man this theme used to creep me out so much especially when i had to go on the quest for the sword key and ended up having to go to the mirror room to get the arrow head were that creepy ass zombie kept scaring the crap outta me hearing it's moaning then seeing my characters reflection then seeing that one zombie's reflection out of nowhere coming right at my character still moaning but sometimes i would just approach that zombie and it would be starring at its own reflection theme playing too!!

This game traumatized me when i was around 10, I’ll never forget the nights of staying up and not sleeping because of how scared i was of a crimson head attacking me or lisa trevor coming after me while i was in bed. 12 years later, I’ve beaten this game 10-20 times, this has become my favourite game, favourite in the series, next to the original games, and 7. i own it on ps3/ps4 and yes the original game cube version which is the best, and the origins pack. i also beat every single mode, including invisible enemy mode, and i got the platinum trophy on it. This game will always be my favourite, and this music brings me back to a more simple time in my life. 🌱🔑🧟♂️

Screw the mansion. First time I went in there I was 10 years old. Now I'm 29 and still keep one eye open when I'm washing my head in the bathroom, and must check the door 3 times to make sure I lock it. I work as a guard in a shopping mall, keep looking back when I'm patrolling the hallway at night shifts... and try to keep distance from every door I'm passing... luckily my radio doesn't break for a single time so I can hear my comrades talking constantly.

I noticed that too when I played it. I almost thought every so often that an actual-zombie was somewhere in my house. The lighting, the shadows just make the game the epitome of creepiness

I'm also a huge Silent Hill and Fatal Frame fan, but to be perfectly honest there's still no other game that gives me such a sense of dread. All I remember playing the Forest Speyer strapped w/grenades mode is getting the Armor Key, then I walked into the hallway where the first zombie appears and accidentally shot the bastard, blowing the whole building sky-high. After that I kind of...gave up. I think I'll try it again some day. A personal challenge I suppose.

i agree. this game is my favorite in the entire franchise. though i loved re4, this one stands out for me. heres hoping the future titles go back to being dark, atmospheric and scary!

The first Resident Evil is and forever will be the best survival horror game I've ever played. It was terrifying, but purely creative. When I first entered this old mansion I never though I'd end up fighting a giant snake, sharks and a huge plant.

I definitely know what you're talking about here.. although when I played REmake I already had the original game memorized like the back of my hand. However the puzzle changes did throw me off. Either way, this game brought a whole new level of atmosphere that the original did not have. (love that certain zombies open doors) I remember playing orignal RE in second grade, I would never make it farther than the eastern staircase. I would walk in, hear zombies walking, pause the game, and just sit.

This was so heavy and SARY it wasn't FUN! But I had become hopelessly addicted to the game. This ReMake was the vedry first Saurvival Horror game that I had ever played...That idea that a video game could scare me was HALARIOUS! PUT NIN MY PLACE FAST!

nah after the castle you go to that military base and all the horror atmosphere disappears and the music turns kind of bombastic.
You know when you first played this game and had no clue where you were, what to do and what to expect in that gigantic as fuck mansion? Yeah, that feeling sums this track up. Being in the hallway with that crimson head running around, the fat zombie and that other one lurking by the mirror, and hearing the occasional moan in the background just as 1:20 plays.
