  • Assembly of the tailcone on my Rans S-21 Outbound kitplane.

Josh at / @birdseyetech machined the cable pulley mounts.
Edit 06/06/23 - Josh has decided to no longer produce the pulley mounts due to liability concerns. I’ll produce them for anyone who wants them. They are $400 per set. Message me.

Thank you for documenting and sharing your S-21 project, I know it takes a great amount of time to edit and put together these You Tube videos. They have been an immense help in my build. Also love your shop, man, what a shop.

I'd like to buy a set of those rudder brackets for my Rans S-21. I went to Josh's TH-cam channel and web page but cannot find a way to order the brackets.

Josh decided to not make them. He’s afraid of liability I guess. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I love your videos. Give me ideas for my model airplanes. Now a curious thing, are you not afraid that a tool might fall into your fingers. Since you're wearing sandals?

I haven’t smashed my toes yet. Fingers crossed!

The link to "Josh at" is not working. I want to order the pulley mounts you designed. You solved a real problem which was also identified by Project 2 Aero. RANS should address this.

If you do have Josh mill those for you, tell him to ping me first as I have a revised CAD file for them.

I am surprised you did not put a more generous radius on the inside corners of the piece. Also I'd have gone with a bigger OD on the plastic washer so it covers all the flat faces of the 2 parts. Great job though and your videos are really helping me with my build.

The plastic washer shouldn’t have any pressure. Those 2 pieces should be pulling against the nut and bolt.

Good Idea on the tailwheel mount reinforcements and I finally took the time to add those angles. I have always been concerned about that area, especially with an aftermarket shock tailwheel.

Right on! Adding in some extra bracing there just seems to make sense. With all due respect to the Rans team, they are in Kansas. They don’t see much true ‘off airport’ terrain like we do out west. I would hope they revise the tailcone and beef it up at some point in the future, but not likely.

@@Outbound300as someone who’s had a tail wheel failure in a 21 I’d be very and I mean very interested in trying to retrofit the improvements you’ve done to allow for the shockmonster. Wonder if it can be done and how hard?

It’s possible to add some strength after the build but it’ll be tedious. @skyrayden100 did his after the fact.

@SkyRayden100 Can you tell me about the retro strengthening mods you did?

Looks like you're making good progress. Those parts you had milled look waayy more secure than the ones provided. Keep up the great work.

Really enjoying your build videos and love the critiques that you add with your engineering experience. You should consider creating an online store to sell some of the great upgrades that you are designing during your build?

Thanks for watching!!! I’ve considered offering certain parts. If I get enough interest I might consider it.

just a warning on your titan 340. check cleared directs youtube where he thought he hurt his titan. theres an oil plug that the inside square hole in the plug is soft and he stripped his trying to remove it. if you are getting a titan.

I own an industrial robotics design company. I do a fair bit of mechanical design and engineering.
