Yamaha Djx 1 was my first in the line back in 1999, than the Djx 2 keyboard & Beat box came out about 2000 they had the best vocal effects. I still have my Djx 2 keyboard.
I miss my one of these. Stupidly left some batteries in it before storing it, they leaked and it was ruined. The patch called 'fish303' was awesome (number 038 if I remember correctly) with a little distortion, Arp and tweaking the cut off and resonance made quite a convincing acid sound. Cool keyboard.
Wow, you're right! fish303 is a great sound! The lower notes have a nice bass and higher notes the perfect deep house piano type sound. And you were close, it's at 043. I gotta start using this thing again!
I almost bought one of these, and I had an MC-505. There was such great sampling ability. I wasn't into sampling at the time. Though you make a fun case.

I did lose the right channel for a short section, fixed that in post, but that was only about 15 seconds. Hmm. I'll extract the audio and analyze it, see if anything weird come up. I love this, am currently writing the bases for fairly original sounding compositions with this by vastly changing the root notes on the built-in songs. I love the way you can add phases and different parts of the kit. The drum kits sounds are pretty good for real time playing. Am going to record a stereo track from the headphone socket and overdub over that. It's not cheating really as the song is a still live performance and can require a lot of coordination and concentration. If you're creative enough, you can write full songs on only this, retro perhaps but lots of people like that. Depends how you use it. I am mainly guitar player. I got given mine and am ordering a sustain pedal and stand for it at the end of the month when I get paid. It's been immensely useful so far.

Bought this 1 for 89 euro without adapter. It is right that it can have some grey sound or electric problem, but I tried the same like Gearfacts and used the buttons for delay. Than I started thinking. Let's get starting the use of a Roland SP 404 sampler with delay and it has a filter called filter drive. This one I turned almost to the same sound like the original and a lot of grey noise was gone. Could it be something the Roland Digital sampler could not understand. The roland TR-8 and the Roland MX-1 can have the same problem with a few people in maybe the same kind of situations. Subject on 3:57

The sound of the keyboard wasn't coming through in "mono", only your voice, but when i put my laptop in Stereo, the keyboard sounds came through but still sounded out of phase or something similar to that effect. Only video of yours that I've come across with this issue
I bought my DJX because I lived in a small town at the time and real synths were thin on the ground. It’s a keeper though, just for the sounds, I’d never use a preset arrangement.

I hear it just fine, but there's something about the synth sound, like there's camera recording of the speakers' sound high in the "mix". Did you A: Not line level record the synth, or B: Forget to delete the camera audio? The people complaining about the sound being all messed up, is probably listening to a mono sum, which I'm guessing would be all out of sorts.
This keyboard was on my want list for ages, but now sits amongst my rig with Roland D-110, Yamaha PSR-S500 (would like to see your thoughts on that keyboard, maybe a demo) And Yamaha MM6. I've had many a Yamaha over the years from a lowly pss-130 to the ones I have now plus the odd Roland along the way Love these videos. Still getting to grips with the DJX, quite an involved bit of kit with a fairly steep learning curve - fun all the way tho
@@girlinagale Yep I think that's the problem. I think it's because I mixed audio from different cameras and file formats. Must have been a real headache for my laptop.
@@gearfacts I have it plugged into the Korg NTS-1. I've only played with maybe 20 voices so far. I've been tooling around with it for about a few hours with just the voices through the Monotron. I'm getting lost and distracted with just the effects alone. There's a lot of hidden adjustable parameters in this gem!
@@lordelpus2099 Personally I would use a Do-Re-Midi (I've made a video about it, just search "gearfacts doremidi") but you could always just get a cheap midi/USB adapter, they're only about $20 online.

That's so weird, I plug in my headphones and could here it good. Then unplugged my headphones and I could hear it on my phone. Never seen that happen before...

No, it's the video. I used compression to level out the volume as clips were taken from many different videos I made. a good idea in theory, but I think it's actually degraded the audio terribly. I've added "Requires headphones" to the title.. Thanks for posting, sorry about the audio!
paid £20 for mine from a 2nd hand shop, bargain of a lifetime, connect it to a couple of free software synths and you have the best bargain in the universe. don't knock it unless you are a professional musician, if you are and still knock it then that is the reason you are not rich and famous, you are not very good.

I had mine hooked up to my Amiga 500 with MIDI cables back in the day, also sampled and distorted the vocal samples.

The synth audio part doesen't sound well in my phone; it sounds garbled. In my computer sounds fine. Did you render the sound of the video in mono?

I’ve never experienced that problem myself. Maybe try using it with batteries, and or headphones, see if that makes a difference.

Pretty hard to compete with the JX-305! You can get lots of interesting results by connecting them with MIDI and exchanging styles.

I don't use DAWs much, but it sounds like you need to switch Ableton to a different midi channel.

Just picked one up had when when I was 15 and used it everyday of my life till about age of 21 so I found out all it secrets ..

I had this from when it first came out but unfortunately the main board inside it snapped in half and I still have no idea why. Shame, I do miss it.

It sounds like one of your channels is out of phase. Also, my djx is not nearly as noisy as yours, I suspect a faulty instrument...
It came to me in pretty appalling condition, perhaps it is faulty.

Had one at the end of last year for a month. Disliked the sounds and really hated the key action. Sold it for £35. Awful thing.
