    My Hydrlauic line blew on my Mercedes sl 500. Dealership said it was $4500. Found this video online and gave Mike a call. I sent him my part and he put a 5000psi hose on it and a fitting to re connect to to my car. Couldn’t be happier fixed my car for under $300. Mike is the man!

    Mercedes could have designed the entire abc system with couplers and quick connects to allow for rapid replacement of all the abc soft hoses. They would have sold more parts. Great solution.

    Many thanks to Mike. My local Merceedes shop quoted me $10K to replace the blown ABC hydraulic line in my 2005 SL500. But, after watching Mike's video, i had my car towed back to my house and decided to give his solution a try. I cut the tubing as instructed by Mike and within 5 days of sending it in, I received the reworked tubing with a mating compression fitting. I have to admit, it took a little effort getting it installed, but after the install I filled the reservoir with hydraulic fluid and started the car. To my pleasure no leaks. I then proceeded to prime the system by forcing compressed air into the measuring stick port on the reservoir. I then drove the car forward and backwards several inches at a time and then all of a sudden the car lifted. I then proceeded to bleed the system by raising and lowering the car numerous times. The repair was straight forward and worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this repair to others in the same situation as i found myself in. Thank you Mike....

    • @MrIFARI
      @MrIFARI ปีที่แล้ว

      Good stuff...Well done!
      QUESTION: When bleeding the ABC system, do you remove the dipstick and leave the reservoir open or insert the dipstick closed?
      Thanks

    • @mercedesbenzspecialist
      @mercedesbenzspecialist  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It doesn’t matter. It’s a self bleeding system. After filling it with fluid, the important step is to prime the pump. Get a stopper plug with a hole in it. To plug into the reservoir in place of the dipstick. Force 15psi of air into the reservoir using a pump or compressed air. DO NOT use more than 20psi. The reservoir can and will blow up.
      After the pump has sucked in some of the hydraulic fluid in reservoir, you know it’s flowing through the system. Now use the up/down adjustment in the car center console. Go up and down 30 times. Then drive it. That’s all you need to do.
      Many of you are thinking “errrr but what about the rodeo with Xentry???” The rodeo isn’t necessary and I can’t recommend putting that much strain on 20 year old struts that cost $1500 each.

    I just found that same line is similar to the line leaking in 2009 SL 550. I just changed the accumulator and noticed that the leak was on the metal collar to that line and it runs along the chase. I couldn't see that line being changed without removing the engine. What a pain in the a** job. I just fix the leak in the convertible top with a little oring about a month ago. I was looking forward to tackling this leak until I actually saw the line. All of the other connections look a whole lot easier to replace. I thought about just converting the suspension but I was thinking about what if I cut the line take the rubber part to Amazon hose and get a fitting. I took plenty of hose jobs to them before. I just came across this channel. I am glad l did. I am going to give it a shot. Thanks for the confirmation.

    I replaced the exact same line on my 04 sl it’s a pain to reinstall but it for sure doable without having to eliminate the metal line you just take it to a hydraulic shop and when you replace the rubber piece just ask then to add a coupler where the rubber line meets the metal line that why you install the metal line first then you simply just screw the rubber line when the other one is in place it’s so much easier and original that way you keep as much Original as possible

      @@videosourceonebusinessacco5438 the hydraulic shop and a fitting where the rubber line meets the metal line that way you install the metal line first and then u adjust the rubber line piece and once they align evenly and both ends are secure you connect the swivel fitting and ur done the hard part of that line is that when take it out it nearly impossible but it's ok if you cut the hose because that's where the fitting is going to go

    Should the suspension lift right up after replacing this hose or do you have to pressurize it somehow? I replaced this hose and topped off fluid but my car is still sitting low

    • @mercedesbenzspecialist
      @mercedesbenzspecialist  หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. You will need to "Prime the pump". Inject air into the large fluid reservoir. 15 psi with shop air or a pump. Once the reservoir is primed with 15 psi. Start the car. The pump should suck most of the fluid out of the reservoir within a few seconds. Be ready to add more fluid as needed.
      You'll be removing the dipstick then plugging the hole where the dipstick lives with a rubber stopper. The rubber stopper should have a hole through it. You can buy these on Amazon. Fill the reservoir with 15psi of air. No more than 15 psi. Too much air and the reservoir will blow up, very messy. Ask me how I know this. :)

    When do you plan to have your repair kit ready to sell? Also, it seems to me that there are several of those difficult-to-install hoses that could use repair kits like you are planning. How many miles were on your car when the hose failed? After you made the repair and put the car back on the road, did other hoses fail because the system pressure likely increased.

    • @mercedesbenzspecialist

      @@mercedesbenzspecialist I bought a 2005 SL500 a few months ago and have been slowly going through it. I decided to replace the 2 main accumulators because of the miles 95K and the fact that there was a 1/2 liter of fluid missing from the ABC fluid when I got the car. No visible leaks, no codes but ...I'll be checking the lines when I pull the fender liners soon.
      Not knowing much about this, it seems to me that there are a few lines that could be called car killers. I've exchanged information with a person in Australia who had a failure something like yours on the line from the pump to the pulsation damper. I have not tracked down the exact line on your car that failed. It might be the same line. Also a similar situation is shown on TH-cam on a car in the Tampa area. I was trying to see if there was a pattern to the failures. I suppose the only sure pattern would be to not change out the accumulators for example once you knew they were bad.
      Thanks for sending your contact number. I'll let you know what I find.

      Get some clues from a good scanner. I would recommend buying SDS. You can get a good working copy from China for about $700 including the laptop. If you'd rather throw money at it, rebuild your valve blocks. Most likely the issue is the valve block seals are not holding the hydraulic fluid in or out.

      I got it off, than cut the line with a pipe cutter from home depot that spins around it while gradually tightening until it cuts through. Took it to a local hydraulic shop and they showed me the connector in this video and a different one that fits the the tub size they will be fixing the line with. It’ll be ready tomorrow and cost approx $100 for original tube to be fixed. A shop quoted me at over $2k because they said it’s 10 hours labor to remove and replace the 2 lines that run to behind the front driver side wheel.

      So I got the line that I cut out replaced with a flexible psi tube. Hooked it back up and didn’t notice that the new line tightened in 2 spots. Almost as soon as I started car it started spraying. Wasted a can or two of hydraulic fluid until I figured out where it was coming from. Once I got it tightened in both places I refilled reservoir and now when I start it it isn’t leaking or spraying but it still says abc and is not raising up on the left side of car.
      Which confused me because the pump is obviously working since it sprayed all over the place. Is there a way to reset the abc, I tried disconnecting the front battery. Should I disconnect the rear battery also? I’m thinking since it was leaking until I figured out the problem it has shut the pump off.@@mercedesbenzspecialist
