Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Buenos Aires in 2012, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a wild Argentinian audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw you enjoyed this powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals and charisma of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

People who are complaining about this being "wrong version", this is what you get when you don't specify your suggestions. So many of you just tell them to react to "Ghost love score", "Storytime", "Romanticide" etc, but there are tons of different versions out there, that reactor can easily pick the "wrong one". If you don't specify your request, they might even do a studio version. So if you are picky about the version/singer/studio vs live, please be very specific, and preferably leave a link. For me this version is much more emotional, so even that Wacken has better production quality and Floor is absolutely perfect there, I don't mind to see reactions to this version too. For me there are no right or wrong versions, because all the songs and front ladies are worth to watch.
200% right , its an amazing version , slighty different than wacken 2013 or buenos aires 2018 , but its not better or worst , only different.
Yes. And if some version is wrong, it is that Bluray of Wacken concert because it is slowed down. That is almost unbearable for me, and still hardly no one complains about that, when 90% of all reactors does that slow "Last Ride Of The Day". Maybe Gabriel should add that information to his Nightwish "declaration" 🙂

Their reactions show their upset that the search algorithm did not lead you to the most spectacular recorded version of this song, and the comparison with Amy Lee (quite common) did not help. As a long time Nightwish fan, I'm a little embarrassed by some of the comments you've received, and I apologize on their behalf. The Nightwish Army for the most part is kind, loving, and respectful. There is however, like most things on the internet, a troll contingent. Please ignore them.
As you might have picked up in the video, Nightwish themselves are humble and loving souls, who would be grateful for your kind words and would also be embarrassed by some of the trollish comments their fans have left you. I think any singer would agree being compared to Amy Lee is a compliment, and I am certain Floor herself would thank you for that comment.
I hope you continue your discovery of this amazing band. Don't let the trolls discourage you. If you do try more Nightwish, I recommend you try their song "Ever Dream" or "Storytime", performed live at Wacken Open Air 2013. Maybe even try "Ghost Love Score" again, but from that Wacken 2013 performance. You won't be disappointed and the trolls will be less likely to open their nasty traps. As a long time Nightwish fan, I am quite upset about some "new fans" that openly state that they don't like Tarja singing at all. It is certainly a question of preference which singer you prefer but it is rather "un-fanish" to completely despite on of them and a whole era of the band's existence. And by the way spitting longtime fans for over 20 years into their eyes. I experienced that as well and must say: I liked the fandom of 20 years ago more. This goes especially for the Floor fanatics who really believe that Floor is the best singer in the world with nobody to par.
@@Nikioko you nailed it ... the only thing I would add is that of course there are some who try to claim the same thing about Tarja ... can't say I've heard anyone make the claim about Annette. All three are exceptionally talented I loved Tarja and I know the breakup was a bit rocky but things seemed to calm down and work out for both sides. Annette while solid just isn't for me .. it's not her voice which really is great - I can't really describe it. Even though I love Tarja I do prefer Floor ... that doesn't mean I think she's far better than Tarja ... when I first heard about Floor replacing Annette I thought she was going to be closer to Tarja .. while she is she does bring something else (that hits the right "notes" for me) and she won me over. I would gladly listen to either, Annette I can listen to in moderation only and I don't want to watch the videos she was in (one of them gave me a strange vibe and ever since when I see her I flash to it). I would take either over Amy or Annette. Still the whole ______________ is the best and ___________ stinks is just childish.
Don't let the passionate fans scare you off. Great reaction. I'm happy to reacted to a different live performance than most, it's a nice change of pace and still a great video. Also, there's nothing wrong with the Amy Lee comparison, both are great vocalists with music that is more similar than it is different. I love Evanescence, I love Nightwish even more.
I appreciate your thoughtful comments. If you really want to hear a different comparison, or maybe a more accurate comparison, passionate fans should have my dad Hal at Quail Studios Guitar react to Nightwish. I think he would have better insight to the band and the overall feeling of the music.
To be honest I’ve been in the trenches lately with Amy Lee- students singing her music- and that’s what is on the brain. Although I do think that Amy Lee is a similar comparison in the overall tone of the voices. But Floor Jansen has more flexibility in her voice.

It's interesting to see Floor when she was obviously nervous and didn't have the same confidence of Waken a few months later.
Still a great performance and wonderful atmosphere and audience!
That's why I like the wacken version even more, after a while she felt more confident and it evolved in an even more epic version. This one already gave me shivers but the Valkyrie cry on the end of the wacken concert is so epic.

She was coming off a bad cold. I have the DVD and you could hear she was kind of struggling at the beginning of the concert but her voice got better during the concert and by the end, she was basically back to normal.
@@paulspielman2217 I had the privilege to get the first one the Wacken one, maybe earlier when i learned to know her through the Dutch TV show beste zangers from 2019. Ashamed to say as Dutch, I didn't know her and regret the fact I did not had earlier. Missed out so much. It isn't really mainstream music in the Netherlands so it's basically to blame on Dutch music stations for not playing more Nighwish. Weird as some Evanescence and Within Temptation songs are played. Started to look up Nightwish on TH-cam, with the guidance of Gabriel I learned to know more gems, started to look up reaction videos of people learning to know and apriciate Nightwish as they get Floored or getting the first Floorgasm. Definitely a Nightwish footsoldier now. Looked up more of Nightwish even the older stuff with Tarja and Annette. But I might have a preference with Floor as a permanent member of the band as a really proud Dutchy.
The orchestral intermezzo is actually not a "break." It is an integral part of the story line of the song. It is not simply "Ghost Love" but "Ghost Love Score," as in a movie score with multiple acts. The symphonic interlude is the London Philharmonic Orchestra who record their Nightwish tracks in studio and then are managed by the sound engineers as background tracks because it would be impossibly expensive to drag a whole, big-name orchestra around on such a massive world tour. Similarly, the background gospel choir is supplied by Metro Voices of London. Hope you will choose to listen to more of this band and this lead vocalist. You won't be disappointed!

To everyone who gripes about the Evanescence comparisons... ok, it hurts me too but to be fair, for a vast a majority of people stateside who DO NOT regularly listen to metal or even hard rock, Evanescence is the heaviest thing many Americans have heard with a front woman. That being said it's inevitable that comparisons will be made, as that is their only base of reference. I've heard so many Americans compare metal bands to Evanescence simply because there's a female vocalist; Lacuna Coil, Frozen Crown, Amaranth, Nightwish, etc. Instead of complaining about the E word, let's just introduce them to more Nightwish and all these other bands they have sadly been missing out on

This is the best salve to the wound that is created each time Floor is compared to Amy that I've heard. As an American, who focuses on European music, I shudder when I realize how few Americans have ever been exposed to the level of music created overseas. Typically our collective heads are so far up our asses when it comes to music that if it isn't about a pickup truck and a lost love, we don't understand it. I, seriously, have not heard a song on the radio for over two decades simply because there is nothing worth my time being played. The American music industry is completely ignorant regarding quality, and only understands their expanding bank accounts as they duplicate the last song that went gold like they were running an office copier. A good example is a song I actually love from the 60s, by Tommy James and the Shondells, called "Mirage." They literally took their hit song "I Think We're Alone Now" and reversed the notes, playing it backwards, and wrote a new set of lyrics. Amy Lee is a wonderful singer, and Evanescence is an excellent band ... but nobody touches Nightwish, and Amy only dreams about singing at Floor's level. It's another case of "American exceptionalism" - but I've learned I'm never going to change it. Thank you, Daniel, for your excellent explanation. It's so true.

Sorry, you need to listen to Amy Lee again. She is nothing like Floor Jansen. I've heard Evanescence live and Amy doesn't come close to Floor's power, range, dynamic variations and quality. Evanescence are OK in the studio but, frankly, who isn't? Nightwish are probably better live than they are in the studio and that is a mark of quality.
Relisten to the studio version of Ghost Love Score. It has a lot more depth than the stage performance with the orchestra and the choir being more present. In the live version you have the live feeling, of course.
And as of Evanescence: the "Fallen" album has sold 17 million times, multiple of all Nightwish albums combined. So of course they ar a lot more prominent and the first reference that crosses one's mind when first listening to Nightwish. Well, not me. I already listened to Nightwish when Evanescence didn't even exist. No, that's not correct. I already listened to Nightwish before Evanescence released their first album. Better.
@@Nikioko I listen to the studio version of Ghost Love Score very regularly as I own every Nightwish album and listen to them when I walk and exercise. As you would expect, the studio version is more polished and the balance is more accurate but the vocals are far less impressive. As for Evanescence your argument is that they are better because they sold more albums??? That's about marketing and following your logic the Spice Girls are better vocalists than either Floor or Amy Lee because they have vastly outsold them in albums sales. Utter madness!

I don't understand the hate with the comparison to Amy Lee. She's better known in the US which doesn't surprise me why the comparison is brought up often. There typically aren't many other female rock singers that are well known to people outside the genre.

I'm a huge fan of Evanescence and especially of Amy Lee. That said, you're correct Viivi. There isn't much of a comparison to be made between Amy and Floor. Amy pretty much delivers one consistent style. Her tone is beautiful to be sure but Floor delivers chills across so many different styles. Love Amy... but Floor rules!

One of my favourite things to find and enjoy is music that gives me chills and goosebumps. I was cruising TH-cam recently and discovered a Russian talent show contestant that did just that, with one of the best, most unique voices I've heard in many years. Her delivery was nothing short of magical and I searched out more and more and more, and...more chills.
I was stunned to find that the first performance I heard was when she was 14!!!! She's now 17 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English and Arabic.
The covers she performed on that show are very popular on TH-cam. Many TH-camrs publish reactions on these performances, which include the ethnic song "River" (in a new musical arrangement), "Blizzard", "Wicked Game", "Human", "Derniere Danse", "Helwa Ya Baladi" and others.

@@SereneSinging I HIGHLY suggest following songs the NW Army suggests in order, there is a REASON! I do a React channel with my kids and when I am doing a second version over "the right version to do", Empuu ALWAYS ends up blowing me away the second time.
As a guitarist myself... his simple, sweet and catchy rifts touch my musical side a lot. The keyboardist Thoumas writes most of the music and then brings it to the band for input to improve it, I have YET to learn IF Thoumas writes those rifts OR Empuu....

I've never understood the Floor/Lee thing. Is it as simple as they are both females who sing rock? Floor is so NOT Amy Lee, lol. Maybe it's just the trap a first-time listener falls into, even if they are a singer themselves? Don't get me wrong, I love Amy, but this constant comparison is as embarrassing as someone stating, "this Rush band reminds me of Kiss", lol. There's just no comparison here, at least... I don't see it.

Such a shame your introduction to Nightwish is from this show in Buenos Aires. Floor (the female singer) was suffering a cold or chest infection at that time and seasoned Floor fans will tell you that her immaculate singing was compromised. Now, for a perfect rendition of Ghost Love Score witness the song as performed at the Wacken open air show in 2013.

You not take the good version of live video. Go watch Nightwish ghost love score at wacken 2013 . Floor Jansen are one of the 5 best female singer in the world right now any genre.
Some folks get their hackles up when first time listeners/reviewers say Floor and or Nightwish remind them of Evanescence or Amy Lee, when really that is a compliment. Usually the reviewers who say that do not have any other frame of reference other than Amy Lee because symphonic metal is not a normal genera for them. What we all hope is that their first experience along with our comments or suggestions take hold and they continue their own Nightwish journey to discover the true power and awesomeness of this band. When they do, I've noticed the comparisons to Amy Lee or Evanescence are never brought up again because they find out what we already know. Nightwish and of course Floor really have no equal in the music business today. Great review Serene! Thank you and I hope you continue with the other suggestions from the rest of the Nightwish Army.

Let's see shall we - on one hand we have a 'vocal coach' who relatively few have heard of and on the other we have Andrew Lloyd Webber (you have heard of him I assume?) who rates HP (a classically trained opera singer who's equally at home in musical theatre btw) as the greatest of 'his' Phantoms - I think I know who's opinion is probably more relevant!!

This not the best version as this singer ( Floor Jansen ) had only been with band 2 months as replaced previous singer in the middle of their tour, learned complete set in 48 hours then they added this as she could sing it but previous singer couldn't and the fans love it.
I hate to say it, but you should have reacted to the performance from the Wacken 2013 festival. That's the one that is so popular on TH-cam reaction channels.
Both versions are good, but for some reason lately there have been more reactions to this BA video than to the Wacken video. Usually it has been the other way around. Is it a coincidence or an algorithm thing?
@@allie9452 The sound, the production value, etc., and even Floor's vocal performance is much better in the Wacken 2013 performance. Serene wasn't familiar with Nightwish before, or was she? If she wasn't, as a Nightwish fan, I'd think you'd want to make the best first impression, and the Wacken 2013 performance is the one that is the best choice for that.
Amy Lee is a great singer...no doubt, but Floor is from another universe....also no doubt about it ;-)

Gabriel Bardac is sort unofficial leader of what is fondly called the Nightwish Army. He replaced Ann Wychoff who was widely considered Nightwish's greatest fan. He usually finds you on your first watch of Nightwish and gives you a history and links to the best videos to post on your reaction channel. Any regular watcher of Nightwish videos know who he is. He lives in Europe. Not sure how their power situation is right now but where I live its been pretty bad.

As for the description you gave about me above - although I admit that it's flattering to be seen as an opinion leader, I don't have a big ego to feed, that would matter to me. I'm here because Nightwish music helped me regain my emotional balance and gave me energy at a very difficult time in my life. Welcoming the new reactors in this way, helping Nightwish to be better known, I feel like I'm giving back to the band some of the good they've done to me. Otherwise - I have a regular IT job in Romania, and listening to their music I can still enjoy life, even though I am alone and have not been young for some time.

The break or interlude in there was for musical reasons
Its kind of a shame you watched the Buenos Aires 2012 version, as its nowhere near as good as the Wacken 2013 version. Still, you've got lots more NIghtwish to explore. Some suggestions: Storytime (Wacken 2013), Yours Is An Empty Hope (Wembly 2015), Seven Days To The Wolves (Wembly 2015), Romanticide (Wacken 2013), and eventually once you've seen most of the others, you will be ready to watch The Poet & The Pendulum (Wembly 2015), and The Greatest Show On Earth (Tampere 2018).

Funny that you mentioned them needing a break in the middle for a 10 minutes song, as they also have songs like The Poet And The Pendulum at Wembley 2015 which is over 14 minutes, with no intermezzo in the middle and finally The Greatest Show On Earth at Tampere 2015, which clocks in at 21 minutes with no breaks either. 😉
