Just took Delivery in Indianapolis on Labor Day of an Ultra Red M3 LrAWD. WOW. This thing is crazy!! It’s my first Tesla and these videos have been instrumental in making my life easier!
Between 65mph and 75mph I hit over 310miles on a single charge.
Relationship of drag force and velocity, is 3rd order.....to the power of three...double speed means 8 more resistance force ( (2)^3 ). Headwind has the same effect. Dumb test. You are just proving physics. Slow down.
right....please see my post.
yup....driving 80 makes very little sense.
@@dangrass You mean makes all the sense because that's the speed people will actually drive at. The cars should be built to fit the person, not the person to fit the car
@@fergmorriss1651 Almost, but we are talking in terms of energy consumed. Wh/mi are units for energy, not power and therefore it would scale as a square not a cubic
I’m just curious how many people have revved their engines at red lights and then you smoked them?
tbh not many, most people around me in actually fast cars know how good tesla's are from a dig
I'm sure everybody is aware by now of how fast these are and don't try anything.
Like 5 Chargers and a couple pickup trucks.
I’ve got a 2022 M3P . 55,000 miles so far. Every single day I do a drag race launch at any greenlight if given the opportunity. So far so good on the battery health only degraded 5%. You are absolutely guaranteed to gap any gasoline car from a dig no matter what it is because in the real world there is no perfect launch for them. However, you do have to watch out for the Tesla plaids. They will humble you. You even smoke 1000 cc sport bikes at the light 🚦 , which is extremely embarrassing for them because they just got gapped by an iPhone wheels. Where the model 3 performance lacks is past 70mph if you’re doing a roll race on the freeway. 🛣️ . you are going to get beat by a lot of cars going from 70-120mph race. allegedly this new model three performance is a bit better at the top end, but I don’t think it fully solved the issue. If you need to destroy everybody with an electric car, you need to get a plaid.
@@Shabobidhuffy a 2021 plaid s is around $55k in inventory with no more than 35k miles usually and sometimes you can even find them for $60k with just under 10k miles. I think that is a much better buy than a 2024 model 3 performance just cause you get more range, acceleration, and top speed. The interior is a bit nicer aside from not having the upgraded seats. exterior is nice as well. most of the inventory plaids are 2021s tho and have yoke only and the bad brakes but the brakes do a good enough job as long as you don't do like quarter mile runs or take it to the drag strip for any extensive testing. I've driven a 2021 plaid and i got from 60-120 maybe in less than 4 seconds and it was only at 40%. It was a carmax one tho so hopefully soon i can get one.
It seems like driving around 72-75 makes a huge difference. Something about 80ish really makes a negative difference.
On a lot of cars I’ve heard the aero caps are good for 10%. Combine that with the lower 70 MPH limit and I’m guessing the range is much closer to 280. Here in Oregon, where a lot of the speed limits are 55mph I probably could get closer to 300 miles of range.
On 18 inch rims 330miles on 71Mph
You put 18’s on your Performance M3?
@@bigeee3123 ppl do it for the range. I heard ride quality is nicer on them too over 20s.
@@bigeee3123 I did. Drive in Atl, where roads can be horrid. Better speeds, range, and durability and ride quality (with the right EVO tires). The only up-side of 20's is better traction for cornering.
@@HSQadri good to know
Honestly, given the circumstances of this range test, 235miles is pretty good. 80mph average speed, 20in wheels and large staggered tires with the aero covers removed. There are plenty of EVs in the M3P class that have around 230-250epa estimated total range that would probably not even Crack 200miles of they did this exact type of range test.
Fellow Lexingtonian here. Picked up a new M3 LR AWD a couple weeks ago in ultra red. Absolutely loving it so far. Thanks for the vids! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for you!
Teslas estimationas are spot on. You have to know where to look and how to drive. The battery percentage/range is a linear metric based on charge available. I drive spiritedly in my model 3 performance highland with over 800 miles on the clock. I'm averaging 233 whm versus 250.
Love the test. I live in Bowling Green and occasionally drive to Lexington to visit friends. It was nice to see how it went for you in a PM3.
Also, the Bucee’s in Smith’s Grove will be getting Supercharger. They are in development according to the recent Tesla Supercharger Map update. I’ve seen X threads regarding electrical flags and a charger blueprint for that location. Should be close to 20 stalls installed. Hopefully they’re V4!
Where are you plugging that radar detector in? I need that!
video on channel going over the entire install
Love Buc-ees! We have two on I-95 - in Florida - one St Augustine and the other Daytona Beach - both have superchargers. Getting my Model 3 in about 2 weeks! Cant wait
Re the radar detector, do you direct wire right into that unit at the mirror? Is it easy to make that power connection?
Great vid been waiting for someone to do this now I know how far it can actually get me on a road trip
I took the small aero off and just bought hole plugs off Amazon to plug the holes and it looks great.
real world? Hmm. So, I too have a 2024 Model 3 Performance with about 3.5k miles. Last weekend I took it on a 700 mile trip from the San Francisco bay area east over Tioga Pass (9941ft), and out into Nevada, back over Sonora Pass (9641 ft), and back to the bay area. I consistently exceeded the posted speed limit by a small amount and enjoyed one stretch of 80-90 mph speeds, with a top speed of 122 mph. Over the whole trip the car achieved 240 watt hours per mile. Despite extreme elevation gains, my car's efficiency was something like 30% better than what your car did.
The conclusion is that cruising at 80 mph simply doesn't make any sense, especially in an EV. Had you dropped the speed to 70, the total trip time (including charging) would likely have been no longer, but the energy efficiency would have been substantially higher.
I literally got the same Tesla performance and color as you. Mine at 100% charge says 303 miles. My ambient lighting on the right side of the dash where it meets the other ambient lighting bar from the passenger door isn’t lined up at all!! Nice videos keep it up!
had the same issue with the interior accent lighting on my car. Was a simply fix at the service center.
My daily commute I would say probably mimics an EPA route in that I drive about 60% highway and 40% city. I hit traffic sometimes and I try to stay below 70mph. I stay in insane mode all the time. My air temps so far range between 70-100 degrees. I keep my cabin at about 70-71 degrees F. I don’t have Aeros. With this I am averaging 329miles. My lifetime including all my launches and a couple road trips has my range at 310miles. On my road trips in hot summer trying to stay below 70 I get about 280miles per charge.
I would say your example here is consistent with somone whose never driven a EV and just drives it without any attempts at efficiency. But as my example proves you can get better range with minimal effort. If I added aero caps back and really pushed hard on efficiency I could squeeze out 350miles on my commute and maybe 300 on my road trip.
Thanks for your videos Jeremiah that you do. very helpful
Love your videos bro, keep em coming
Why is the car being charged to 100%? Its an NCA battery and the 80/10 rule applies, so not only do the quoted range figures need to be reduced by 15% to account for WLTP or EPA exaggerations, 30% needs to be removed for unusable wigglyamps. So, 187 miles. Charging to 100% from 0% is also very time consuming. The quickest way is from 10-80%
The 312W/mile is 3.2 miles/kWhr. This is just not good enough. It needs to be 4.0 miles/kWhr or better LFP batteries need to be used in preference to NCA. My diesel Mazda 2 gets 696 miles at 75 mph on 11.6 gals (US) of diesel. The Tesla would take 3 or 4 recharges and an extra hour for my 1 tank of fuel which would be refilled in 5 mins.
I’m also learning when it doesn’t seem to register I’m looking at the road just slightly torque the wheel and it will go away all the same.
What kind of tint and percentage do you have?
...silence huh. Global is an excellent brand. Level is up to you.
xpel XR plus 5 all around and 35 on the windshield
@@JremiahJones is it hard to see out of at night at all?
@@TwistiieHD yes
Is your Stealth Grey?
This is the same of my estimation for my MYLR. Its like 55miles per 20%. I get 150-170 miles of 80%-20%.
Solid work!
Picking Mike up tomorrow 😅
What color is your model 3P?
watching this after having just took a trip to nashville in my 2024 model 3 performance 💀
How did it do? Im picking up mine in Chattanooga Tn Tom
@@deanprater12 amazing, i don’t go easy on the gas at all lol i was staying in the 80-100 mph range basically the entire trip & it was smooth as ever
@@mosthiphoppthat’s what I’m talking about 👏🏻
Damn you’ve driven 3,500 miles already 😂
mines got 8,000 already lol
Lol, I've owned my '24 Model Y dual motor since March and only managed 2573 miles so far.
I just got a dual motor long range. Do you still like going with the Performance version? I couldn't imagine going faster than what I got. I'm not going to track it or anything.
The 22 MSP I had from lex to etown and back, 180 miles total and 80% usage. Was not happy about that when cars stated range was 385 miles
You were clearly driving like a madman to only get 180. LOL Range tests show it can easily do 280.
Was in Dec, 80 mph cruise, temp set at 74. That's why i traded it back in.
Might look at new Y when it comes out.
But for now running the ole charger scat pack 285 city and 400 hwy.
Great video. Your battery is 82kw, with 75 available. Super clear from your last 2% using 73kw. I'm doing a trip from Nashville to Atlanta in a few weeks. I'm actually surprised you pull 300wpm as that's close to my 21 mylr on the highway.
when will floor mats be back?
Love your videos, just took delivery of my M3P on Wednesday 9/4. My auto drive function makes me “apply pressure to the steering wheel”. And I get steering assist and lane assist error message’s pretty consistently . Any ideas what is causing this???
How did you mount that radar detector?
It would be great if you just drove it the way everybody does and with the AC on full blast and see what it does
So with the ventilated seats, did they do away with the electric heated seats? ty
No sir, the seats are still heated in the front and back!
Are you experiencing the rear oil leak issue on your performance?
seems that this is a non-issue....just assembly lube.
Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for buying mud flaps for the refresh model 3??
I wanna see more of Jeremiah in his little shorts.
Weirdo😮
If you go around 25mph you can probably go 450+ miles easy. Unlike a gas car , where you have to go 55mph to get max efficiency.
My guess is that you could achieve 450 miles at 45 mph.
Might get this for the wife. We have a model Y and it’s already pretty fast. But this? Man..
That’s only just above 80% of what Tesla claims of their 303 range. If you got 235 + 10 for last 2% that’s 245 or 80.6%. If it got 250, that would be 82.5%. That’s much less than the predicted 90%.
That’s also what I get with my 2018 performance. 80% of estimated range… MUCH LESS if it’s cold and I’m driving rapidly. They need the much better Chinese batteries that they can charge up to 100% without any degradation and their power is just as much as the performance batteries
and I've been averaging 252 wh/mile over the first 3.5k miles of ownership. This equates to a calculated range of 324 miles, or 7% better than the EPA estimate. On last weekend's 700 mile trans-Sierra trip the car got 240 wh/mile, or a calculated range of 341 miles.
270 is my guess
i want a tesla so bad
just put some 18 inch on them and you will be looking at around 270-280 wh/mi at 80 mph
or just slow down 10 mph and the car would achieve 300+ miles.
@@dangrass depending where you are going the speed limit or under is considered dangerous due to how fast everyone else is going
White Laura Martinez Margaret Clark Helen

First .
Tesla doesn’t have any say over the EPA rating. They don’t rate it at 303 miles of range, the EPA does.
Not true. Tesla can (and has) voluntarily advertise a lower number than the test actually showed.
@@Microfrost I don’t think there would be any incentive to underrate the advertised vs EPA rated range anymore. The modern EPA standard is pretty easy to achieve without doing anything special on both of my Teslas, and ICE vehicles tend to underperform their ratings at 70MPH+ also. There are a handful of outliers, like some Mazdas I’ve noticed, that seem to outperform their rated ranges. What I’d like to see with BEVs is an EPA standard showing city, highway, and average ranges, just like ICE vehicle ratings. I think that would clear up some confusion.
and in my experience, the car exceeds the EPA rating.
