      Get a poly stock tank instead of the galvanized. Galvanized metal mixed with chlorine, you will get rust & possible zinc poisoning! Poly plastic is much more durable, won't rust, is UV resistant, DOESN'T LEAK & costs the same. 10'x28" is around $450-500. Can't beat it! Had ours for years & still looks brand new, even in harsh MT winters! Go with the polyethylene stock tank, can't go wrong! Jesus loves you!

    All you that want an easy pool or pond, go with the poly stock tank instead of galvanized. Very close in price & the poly won't rust or break down. Also, chlorine & pool chemicals will cause the zinc coating to break down & rust! The poly stock tanks are high dense plastic, UV resistant, won't rust, won't give you zinc poisoning & usually have atleast 3 year warrant. Great idea! Got 10' poly stock tank for our ducks! Easy to drain & clean weekly & has lasted years of harsh MT winters! Hope this helps! Jesus loves you!

    We built the exact same pool with identical components. The only difference was where we dug out the grass we had LOTS of tree roots... Pavers sand underneath leveled us off okay. Also I drilled the strainer at the center rather than the bottom ring. incidentally that hole drilling process sucked for us. Broken bits and lots of burned out batteries but we eventually cut the holes out with a separate cutting tool. We did silicone on inside and outside. of the jet/ strainer. no leaks to date. We even used paver bricks all the way around the outside. it took about 5 rows high and used paver caps around the top edge. It really compliments the look of the pool. Maybe something you might add to yours if you're interested. We also used the floater for chemicals the ones that last about a month or so. We built it in the shade so the water has stayed REALLY cool all summer! We had to use some of our water from our hot tub to warm it up HAHA! Anyway thought I would share with you. Nice job on your video. Very informative!

    Seems like it would help circulation to have the inlet jet further away from the intake vent. Not likely a big issue on a tank this size. Also most swimming pools have the jet lower in the pool so it doesn't need to be up at the top like an actual skimmer would be.

    • @LucentProductions
      @LucentProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even with the current configuration, the pool gets some good circulation since it's so small. I typically angle the jet to the side and it actually gives it a slight whirlpool affect!

    Good Morning Dad,
    Florida Summer is here and the stock tank pool has been great for the 2 year old. Even us adults have been loving it after hours.
    Question?
    Has anyone found the in tank screw on cleaning hose adapter for the Intex 11235 strainer. The strainer is threaded in two spots.
    Every week we end up with that sand pile in the middle of the pool. I shop vac it out, skimmer some out.
    I would just like to get a 10 ft hose with a little vacuum brush head and sweep it all up as I retire a filter.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hey man, thanks so much for posting this we are stoked! Are there any considerations for equipotential bonding or the like to divert electricity away from the pool and pump? Thanks for your help.

    • @LucentProductions
      @LucentProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! We have/had plans for all that when our addition is underway and we can have permanent power, but was delayed due to Covid. The pump has a GFCI plug and we also use another GFCI for current power, but plan to make it extra safe when that is all completed. But for now, all plugs/electricity are waaaay far away from the pool!

    Nice work, thanks for the video. We are working on one here in the Catskills and I'm wondering - how strong is your drill and what kind of hole saw bit is that? Asking because in surveying a few videos, there seems to be agreement that getting the holes in the galvanized steel is one of the hardest parts of this project. Will appreciate your reply very much! Back to home Depot tomorrow ...

    • @LucentProductions
      @LucentProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! The toughest part of the whole process was actually leveling the ground! Drilling holes wasn’t too bad honestly, prob took about 30-60 seconds for each hole. Smooth and steady and not too much pressure and you’ll be golden. I can’t remember which one I got but I got mine at Home Depot as well. As long as it’s 2 3/4” and for metal you’ll be fine. 👌🏻 good luck!

    Great video. I am no pool expert, but i would say you would want your outlet at a different place. Your pushing water back in right above where your pump is pulling water out. You want more water to move around/stir up so it cleans. Not immediately sucking out what you pushed in. Just my thoughts, but I really don’t know. Still cool. Good job.

I have never, nor will I ever, claim to be an expert in physics. As a matter of fact I never took physics. @@innerchild509 Maybe you could use a wide strip of steel to wrap around the outside at the seam between the top and bottom. Wrapping it around and welding the ends together could provide the support you need at the seam. Or some vertical boards that bridge the horizontal seam with steel rings horizontally around the top and bottom of the boards like a barrel. If you do this you'll have to post a vid.

    Great video, inspired me to get started on this! 2 Questions:
    1) How was transporting the tank in the pickup? I have a short bed and about an hour and 15 minute drive to the closest place that has the stock tank. Is that doable? How did you anchor it down exactly since the tailgate needs to stay open and there are no holes to tie anything to?
    2) Lasting impression on the 8 ft cover? The next option up on your Amazon link is a 10ft one. I’d like a cover that will be a good fit so it’s not super easy for my 3 and 5 year olds to get into on their own. Thanks a lot!

    • @LucentProductions
      @LucentProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Transportation was very tricky! I had a small pickup truck and it hung over one side a few feet so I ended up taking back roads for the hr drive home. Just ended up using a handful of tie down straps to secure it.
      As far as cover, go 10 foot as the 8 foot is actually less than 8 in diameter. But after the deck build I had a custom mesh tarp made that is anchored to the deck and ground. Much safer and still let’s water through. But for a general cover to help keep debris out, the 8’ intex does a decent job, just no safety benefit.

    Nice Job Dad!!! I just picked up my 8 ft stock tank and about to copy cat your work.We live in Ormond Beach, Florida so the pool will be used year round.Questions??????1. What would you have done different if you did it again? Bigger pump GPM? Anything?2. How are your pool fittings that you drilled through the tank doing? Any leak problems yet? 3. Did you get the intex cover for it? I'm thinking Florida sun would eat up the Intex cover so I'm going to go custom with less plastic cover and more preventative safety. A custom sail boat style trampoline / 1/4 inch square poly coated netting. Just so happens I'm in the boat biz. An old fashion cargo strap around the tank would hold it tight enough at the rim that the boy could almost walk across it.Any thoughts are much appreciated. I will be ordering my pump / accessories etc... in the next couple weeks. I just put a coating of automotive wax on the out side and bottom of the tank for protection. We live beach side so the salt air is a real concern of mine.Have a great day!!!!!!!

    • @LucentProductions
      @LucentProductions  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I think the big thing I would have done different is relocate the return hose down low as opposed to directly above the outlet hose to the pump. Fittings were super solid with no leaks! (plenty of caulking helped). I would also buy much smaller chlorine tablets. The 3" lasted a while but added too much chlorine in the water so I had to break them up smaller. I bought the Intex cover which does an OK job but I would def like to get something a bit more sturdy that is actually bigger than the tank...I have the same safety concerns with two young kids. Custom sail boat style netting sounds AMAZING, would love to see what it looks like when you're done. Cargo strap is actually a great idea too, I tried to cover ours during the winter but keeping the tarp on posed so many issues with snow/rain.

      The pump clicked on but did not start after all the protocol.. We filled her to the tip top then hit on AND nothing. She clicked a couple more time and nothing.
      I will say Intex worked great last season for one season. If we can’t get her pumping by the AM I’m going a different brand with same size pipes.

      Edward Sanchez what kind of liner are you thinking? I’m not sure it would be easy with the few holes (there’s also a drain plug on the tank).

    What size stock tank? I'm trying to decide between 6 and 8 ft

    quick question.. do you keep the pump running 24/7? or can you turn it off when the pool is not in use?

      Nope! Pool size is so small i'll typically either run it when the kids go in, or every few days if it hasnt been used.
