I'm a very new fan. I found you in the recommended section of my usual commentary youtubers, (all the stand up comedy white guys), but honestly I love ALL of your videos. for example, I don't usually watch decorating videos or vlogs, but I love your making your house spooky video and day in the life vlogs. I hope you see this, because even tho you say you expired from TH-cam, I think new people who will genuinely enjoy your content will still find it. I feel like Get Out is a perfect movie for beginners because it’s not gory or anything that would bother a lot of people but it is suspenseful and is overall just a really good movie (not a classic but will definitely be in the future)

Oh my godddd I agree. I never recommend scream as a starter because it won’t be as enjoyable if you don’t have prior knowledge or appreciation for classic slasher
@@my3rs307 absolutely! i would just recommend watching it after the classics to new horror fans due to the spoiler’s but also it ain’t that big a deal if not😂
I recommend the haunting of hill house for beginners, which I know is weird because it is definitely scary. My argument is that my husband hates scary movies and is easily scared but he binged that series and still raves about it. It’s a must see!
I 100% agree. I’ve introduced plenty of people to horror through that show because it has a deeper message that most people don’t usually associate or expect with the horror genre.
So I definitely lean to older cinema, especially when I don't want to be scared or maybe just prefer a good/simple story? Here are five I think could be added to this list. Psycho (1960) - a must see classic, not scary, but full of dread and suspense House (1977) - your list lacked some foreign language picks, this is one that is kind of scary but very accessible to anyone Phantasm (1979) - a recent discovery for me, amazing score, a few great scares, but lots of mystery and intrigue, highly recommend The Changeling (1980) - a well acted haunted house/ghost story with no gore but lots of beautiful, gothic atmosphere Poltergeist (1982) - some terrifying scenes but this is such a good movie for the entire family, everyone has to see this
@@stroervor it's a big mainstream film with good performances,a believable family, and for the time pretty good special effects. not everything has aged well but it's a compelling family drama at its core and I think you can understand why it should at least be watched, especially for beginners.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! i was never allowed to watch horror growing up so i feel super behind, and there are sooo many movies it can feel intimidating without guidance. happy spooky season 💜
I actually think the performances and cinematography are the best aspects of the movie. The effects, while servicable for the time, are a bit rough in some areas, especially with the shark.
My gf doesn’t really like horror but makes the effort to watch some movies like these ones, which have great characters, stories and aren’t too intense. I just wanted to say that she watched Gonjiam thanks to your review and she deeply enjoyed it!! So thank you! 😬😊
I'm not a horror fan, but DEFINITELY I'd say "Cabin in the woods". It's just perfect. So full of references, so funny, yet so well done and intriguing. And the ending. OMG. THE ENDING?? That was brilliant... It's my favourite horror movie by far. :D
I haven't understood why it's so popular, I thought it was so cringe but I was a teenager when I watched it so maybe I should give it another chance 😂 I like the idea of it a lot though! I guess as a non horror fan (I get scared to easily) I missed some references and jokes! Really interesting to hear you perspective!
I agree! Cabin in the Woods is an awesome film. So self-aware with just the right amount of cheese. And the homage to other classic films/creatures is second to none!
I think that it might also be good for beginners. Some tropes are known by everyone (the killer that kills the couple while they're... intimating, the virgin innocent, the dumb blonde, and I can't remember if there's also the "black guy dies first) and some references may ignite the curiosity to investigate more of where are they from. Even start reading Lovecraft. :P For me is like "look, this is a tour of what this genre has to offer, sit down, relax, enjoy, and let's see what we have next! Maybe some more cabin slaughter? Maybe Hellraiser? Or maybe water monsters or japanese horror films?".
I remember watching disturbia when I was in 6th grade and not finding it too bad. I was so scared of things back then too. I did have to leave the lights on in the house for a while but for people looking into horror, it might be a good starter. Some gore, some jump scares, but not too bad. And Shia LaBeouf… enough said.
I'm so stoked you mentioned Triangle! That movie stuck with me and basically no one I know has seen it or heard of it. Even to this day I think about the ending and how the loop could've started in the first place
Creepshow definitely got me more into horror especially bc I love how campy and how much variety there is in both the original and newer series. I did accidentally watched the lake blob episode of creep show with my dad though :(
Can someone explain to me why I have a boat load list of movies I want to watch that I’ve never seen but I always end up watching the same old movies I’ve already seen. 🤷♀️
I’m trying to get into horror, watched around 7-9 movies. Just watched the sixth sense last night with my mom. It’s pretty scary but more so very heart wrenching and sad. So many emotional parts that almost some tears out of me, and I don’t really cry during movies. Definitely a great one.
I do love horror! But I don’t plan on watching misery just because I’ve hurt my legs and I have a serious phobia with it and I feel like this would genuinely mess with my head for longer than a horror film should, so keep that in mind! I only know this because my parents warned me, so if you hate leg injuries, nope OUT!
This video was really helpful! I’ve been meaning to get into horror movies because a lot of friends like them, but I’m not a big fan of heavy gore movies.
Thank you for putting where they can be streamed! I agree with Scream, Jennifer's Body, Carrie, and Signs. I also think the I Know What You Did Last Summer movies aren't too bad for beginners
I would add Guillermo del Toro’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. It has almost no gore and is generally pretty tame but the visuals and writing are insane. It has some of the traditional tropes and the story is kind of cheesy, but overall a fantastic watch for a newcomer to the horror genre.
3:55 YES let's get that Shyamalan praise! His movies are amazing, he's also my favorite director which is a huge hot take! The Village is my all time favorite movie, and i highly recommend it as well to anyone who hasnt seen it!
The Village was my first "horror " movie and it's one of my favorites honestly this movie is so underrated and it doesn't get talked about enough and I've been looking for people who actually like this movie and so far this is the only video like this that has mentioned it
i’m a early teen and i’m just trying to get into horror and i just got done watching the blair witch project like 5 mins ago. it was so good and not too scary, i would recommend it to anybody over the age of 12!
Thanks for this video! I've been dipping my toes into the horror genre a bit but I really hate jumpscares, so this video is really helpful. As for my own recommendation, It's a series but I think the haunting of bly manor is good for beginners! It's spooky but no jumpscares and the story is really beautiful :)
Great video and list as always! My very first intro to horror was the original Chucky movies, the Child's Play trilogy and it made me fall in love with the genre instantly. It ticked all the boxes for me. It was scary (at least for me), but not too much, it had a decent amount of gore and they were all fun. And later Bride Of Chucky put together everything i love about horror. It prepared me to the rest of the genre. Paranormal Activity, Scream and Blair With Project were some of my firsts as a beginner fan too and i recommend them to everyone. I think supernatural/ghost moves in general are a great start if anybody's wanna get into horror, cause mostly, they not all that disturbing.
First off just wanted to say thanks for the content Sarah❤️ knew you were having a hard time filming this but you can’t tell one bit! Secondly OMG you mentioned the classics but not chucky!! I know they aren’t your thing but definitely check these out if your a beginner they aren’t to scary!❤️
I appreciate how kind you are to beginners. Iv seen and experienced a lot of very "gatekeepy" responses to newbie recommendations that involves tones like: "horror is scary, if you can handle scary go watch a comedy."
This mentality is flawed by nature because people are different from one another, so what scares a person is inherently different from what scares the other. My mom is terrified of Evil Dead but I laugh my ass off watching it, while I'm super scared of the film Communion while most people find it goofy or simply not really horror.
“Gremlins” and “Ghoulies” were the first two that came to mind. My personal favorite horror movie is “Re-Animator”, which tends to be more campy than scary, but it definitely has a good helping of gore. “An American Werewolf In London” is also a good choice. There is a little bit of gore, but it strikes a good balance between horror and comedy.
I think Horror Comedies are the best introduction to the genre because it allows beginners to laugh while exposing them to aspects of the genre such as jump scares, gore, or messed up imagery. I would recommend Scream or Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Basically allows you to get your feet wet.
I thought Dave Made a Maze was a lot of fun. Probably leans a bit more into comedy than horror, especially if you already have a dark sense of humor. But I did really enjoy it.
I agree with your choices, it's a pretty good list already, but if you don't mind I'd like to add another 10 great movies for beginners: - Trick R' Treat - Sleepy Hollow - Silent Hill - The mummy - ghost ship - Alien - The ruins - It follows - Orphan - Ghotika
I'm still a horror beginner myself, but I'd really like to recommend Train to Busan! I didn't think it was that scary, and it's genuinely very good with an amazing cast. Very sad though so be prepared to cry
I've watched countless hours of gut wrenching online horror videos but something about watching a horror movie rather than video makes me anxious as I've never seen one
I would recommend The Lost Boys. It’s not too scary, although the vampires can be kind of creepy. There’s a little bit of gore, but there’s generally not much. It’s also pretty lighthearted, and the jokes land well. I think Kiefer Sutherland does a really good job in this movie.
Hi there, so I know this video is quite old but I just wanted to say thank you so much for introducing me to The Sixth Sense I loved it so much I just finished and WOW the ending. I am still in tears. But I loved it so much so thank you I look forward to watching the rest of the movies on this list :)
So glad you mentioned Signs. I saw it pretty young and it's by far my scariest movie memory of all time. Great intense moments, great cast and great story about a man questioning his faith. Love it.
The first horror movie I watched was Scream 3 and it was against my will (my family was marathoning Scream movies and made me sit down with them). Is it the best movie? Nah. But it taught me that I can handle horror and got me excited to explore the genre. So it holds a special place in my heart, despite not being my favorite of the franchise. Anyways, all this to say that Scream feels like a perfect jumping off place. And its a bonus when you're a more experienced horror fan and can revisit the Scream franchise and catch all the references :)
Scream is my all time favourite movie franchise. Those we're my first horror movies and my mom is the one who introduced me to them. I love those movies and those will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't wait for the new movie to come out next year. Another horror series I love is the IT movie series (new ones. Haven't seen the old one yet) however those ones are scary so I wouldn't recommend those to people who are just getting into horror movies. They are really good movies though. Scream is a perfect movie to watch to get into horror movies though. Those are the movies that introduced me to horror.
I'm definitely not a beginner, but I think these recs are really good! I've been curious about Triangle for awhile now, and sometimes I need to take a break from super disturbing stuff. I really appreciate that you put where to stream in the video, that's really helpful.
I remember that The Sixth Sense was the first ever horror movie I watched and it scared me so much that it took me a long time to start watching horror movies again hahaha but after I came across your channel, I've been challenging myself to watch more horror. Do I still watch them in the day time because I get scared? yes, but hey, it's a start right? HAHAHAHAHA
In addition to the slashers and stuff you recommended, which I also think is a great starting point, I'd also recommend sci-fi horror movies like The Thing or Alien. They're both absolute classics, and they've aged pretty well, but I actually think that the majority of movie goers in 2021 will be able to make it through them without being traumatized, just because of how influential those movies are, and because how they've proliferated pop culture -- most people will have already seen something similar that was heavily inspired by one of the two. I'd probably recommend zombie movies. I don't think that zombies are very scary, and there's a lot of different flavors of zombie movie to recommend to different people. Like depending on how much of a chicken the person is, you could start with like 28 Days Later (normal difficulty), or Train to Busan (easy difficulty), or go with something even easier like Shaun of the Dead for a 100% pure beginner who is scared of everything.
I agree with Train to Busan. It’s fantastic in its visuals and feeling of hopelessness, but doesn’t have too much gore or intensity. It’s just really fast paced with a really unique setting and characters.
Zombie movies terrified ever since I watched “Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things” as a child on broadcast TV. I had to be seven, and it came on broadcast TV in the afternoon. It wasn’t until I watched “Return of the Living Dead” on HBO in high school that I could watch another zombie movie.
Alien is a great classic for space horror with fantastic visuals. Orphan the original 2009 is excellent and not too scary. I just watched 13 Sins on your recommendation on another video and would recommend that as more comedy-horror. I really enjoyed it. Crime horror could be Silence of the Lambs? Nothing tends to scare me as I always watch horror whilst knitting, so I miss the jump scares.
Good choices~ Althought maybe even the original adaptation of "It" it's too scary for beginners. Tim Curry was fantastic on that one. Some oldies like "Psycho" or the original zombie trilogy of George A. Romero would be for me also good ways to start on the genre, if you don't mind watching older movies.
This is perfect! I’ll be watching some of these with my younger sister. She loves to watch spooky stuff with me, but I’m hesitant sometimes depending on whether I’ve seen the movie or not.
I saw Signs in the theater, I would have been 16 or 17 at the time, no stranger to horror. I swear I had trouble sleeping for about a week after that. Still to this day even though I know what's coming it will scare me. Great work
I watched my first horror movie when I was 7 in 1968 so I am obviously from a different generation. For those interested in 80’s horror I highly recommend The Changeling with George C Scott and The Movie The Herse. I loved them both. Changeling was on TH-cam and is a great supernatural and not too scary….. I love your channel Sarah. Thanks so muxh
Thank you for making this! I started my channel a little bit ago (inspired by you) because I love horror but I'm super new to the genre, so I've been like binge watching your lists and recommendation videos to make a spreadsheet :') But now I have something I can definitivley dive into!
My personal experience the first time I watched paranormal activity, I couldn't sleep for a whole week. It could also be that elements of my culture background played a big part on how the movie impacted me.
I was terrified honestly I still lived in my old house and some creepy things happened there that affected me. I went to the theaters for all the paranormal activity movies that weren't straight to dvd or streaming.
I remember watching the others! It was my first horror movie experience and it defiantly wasn't too scary. Its a great place to start if your a beginner and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any gore!
I saw Poltergeist in theaters at 5yo and loved it so I'd say watch that one. I'd also recommend Monster House for families with parents who were never into horror but want to watch a great movie with their kids
As someone who loves absolutely scary movies, this is still a good list for old classics I usually have a craving to watch just during the day. I thought the video was called "where to stream them" and I was like "ugh I hate sifting through google to find what I want" that's ok though haha Oh you did! Awesome thank you!!
Don't wanna sound dismissive because your video is great and I'm sure a lot of people will benefit from this introductory map into the horror genre, but I just wanted to stress the fact that there's no single standard when it comes to horror movies. I've watched about 2/3 of the movies on that list (and hundreds more, most of them bad), and from all those you list in that video, I've only actually enjoyed about 3 or 4. I feel it's important to point out that nobody *needs* to like the 'classics' to be a 'real' horror fan. Movies are like music, all tastes are valid. In my case for example I just don't like slashers at all, except Scream 1 and maybe Hush, and even then they're hardly on my top 10 or 20 list of best horror movies. I say that just to point out that the horror genre is a lot bigger than almost any list imaginable, and you don't need to like even a majority of the movies in this list to know whether you like horror movies or not. Here's an alternative roadmap I'd like to offer, not as competition but more as complement, for people like me who might be bored by Jaws or Halloween, and turned off by the stupidity of the characters in Paranormal Activity (as for example). You mentioned Underwater, which is one of the ones I liked in that list, and it provides a different entry point into the horror genre: the sci-fi horror is I think a good place to start if you like sci-fi to begin with. Movies like the Alien franchise (maybe putting aside its appalling prequels, but obviously YMMV), the original Thing and the prequel from 2011, Pandorum, Sputnik, Life, Event Horizon (that one gets intense but still it's not that bad I think), Superdeep, Splinter, Annihilation. Now, several of them contain relatively intense body horror, (the Things and Splinter in particular, and Event Horizon too), so if you're squeamish, better start with something else (though from reaction videos online I'd say most people handle it relatively well, esp since it's both over-the-top and sci-fi themed, and therefore not as visceral as body horror in an otherwise 'realistic' environment, IMO, though once again, YMMV). Also I wanted to point out that the Blair Witch Project, though definitely a hit-or-miss, when it hits, it has the potential of being an incredibly scary movie. I got more and more desensitized year after year but when I started it was one of the first I watched, and it's to date the movie through I've felt the most amount of fear. So, although largely harmless in terms of gore or disturbing material, I still wanna warn noobies to not treat it too lightly, cuz it can be a really intense experience. To put things in perspective, it scared me more than when I later watched movies such as Lights Out, Hereditary, Sinister, etc. Again, I'm losing my ability to get scared, but that's precisely why as a beginner that movie has the potential to be particularly scary. On the other hand I am very happy to have watched it early on, bc I like being scared and it's one of those movies that can't be watched twice the same way: it'll never be as scary as the first time, so really, if you even like being scared a little, better watch it early on to get the most out of it. Also to stay on the theme of fear: if you're a beginner and you don't mind being scared but you wanna avoid gore, there are quite a few very scary movies that are very light on gore, so I think they can be good introductions too: the fairly underrated Insidious franchise, quite obviously; the Conjuring universe, too; once again, the Blair Witch Project; Grave Encounters (the sequel is sub-par to say the least IMO); Come Play; Darkness from 2002; the Ring (don't think there's that much gore at all in it, or am I wrong? it's been a while tbh); Lights Out (very good scary non-gory movie); The Hole in the Ground; Z (2019) And ofc another well-known entryway is through horror comedies. Depending on your sensibility, movies like Shawn of the Dead or the Tremors franchise (admittedly at the super lightweight end) up to movies like Tucker & Dale (a bit gory), or the badly underrated Housebound from New Zealand (actually scary at times) might provide a doorway in. I think it's more or less how I got into horror (quite late I may add). I watched a lot of horror comedies (a lot of them not to my taste at all) and then watched more and more intense sci-fi horror, then got a taste for scary movies, and never looked back. And if your thing is crime thrillers and you have a stomach for crime-related violence, then maybe go the road of Silence of the Lambs and the other movies in the Hannibal universe (though the teenage prequel is really really bad IMO but who knows maybe some people like it), Se7en, that sort of movie. A lot of thrillers are basically crime-flavored horror movies (and vice-versa), although I'm sure it's debatable but at any rate they provide I think a good introduction to tougher material. To conclude this horribly lengthy comment I'd like to reiterate you don't need to like even a majority of the classics, nor do you need to like all subgenres, or whatever other rule really. I'd say I only tolerate about 1 every 10 horror movies I watch, and I might only truly like 1 every 20 or 30. So don't judge yourself (or indeed the horror genre as a whole) even if you happen to dislike most or all the horror movies you've ever watched. Maybe try one that is in a different category. Ofc don't force yourself either, there's nothing wrong with not liking horror movies, just like there's nothing wrong with say not liking jazz or metal or pop, it's all valid, it's just a matter of taste.
I recommend for horror movie beginners Steven Spielberg produced movies Gremlins, Poltergeist & Jaws. Classic Movie Monsters like Frankenstein, Dracula, & The Wolf Man & Alfred Hitchcock films. (Psycho, The Birds, & Rear Window) For an updated Rear Window re-telling 2007's Disturbia is a PG13 thriller starring Disney's Shia LaBeouf that I love as well.
I like horror but I'm a baby, so I have absolutely confirm that Scream is the perfect movie for people like me. It's honestly my favorite horror series
The Sixth Sense was the first horror movie I saw and I was traumatised for years!! Rewatching it now I'm so desentised but I still understood why it affected me so much
My first horror movies were Poltergeist, Psycho, and Silence of the Lambs. All of which terrified me as a pre-teen lol. Omg and When a Stranger Calls!!! The go-to sleepover movie, probably watched it twenty times
Love this video and the comment section!! I needed a list like this :) I love the Scream series.. got me to try more scary movies. I would like to add Urban legend and The Thing 🖤
This was a great list. Jennifer’s Body very quickly I feel made it’s way into being a classic. I will always recommend that movie. Do you watch a lot of Korean thriller/horror?
Thanks for the recommendations! I'm not really a beginner in the genre, but I have become a bit more sensitive to them, because I had a big horror break for a while, so slowly getting into it again. Blair witch actually scared me so much the first time I watched it. I feel like you only get scared when you are really focussed on the movie when watching. otherwise the suspence and creeping eary feeling doesn't build up. Because my friend who isn't into horror and also gets scared by them quick, wasn't scared at all, but they didn't pay attention a lot.
When you said scream in the beginning I was very happy (it’s my favourite horror movie of all time) that is the film I always introduce to new people who want to get into horror Triangle is a great one too
Great list! Probably won’t see this but what’s with the humming from your mic in the last few videos? Almost like it’s not fully plugged in. Idk I’ve just noticed this a lot lately. Anyway, have a good one!
Paranormal Activity is totally a modern classic. It showcased what could still be done on a shoestring budget and was super effective. The Descent is another modern classic imo. More intense though.
My biggest recommendation for beginners, is a 100% the Chucky franchise. I watched them all at 9 with my dad, ADORED THEM, and still watch to this day. A lot of people don’t like Chucky, but honestly I don’t get why, it’s incredible and has some humour that makes some of the more gruesome deaths a bit more easy to take. Yes there are some bad ones, but if you can get a laugh and not take any of it seriously it’s perfect. My favourites are the second and fourth, but for scare factors the 6th is definitely the scariest. I do recommend watching them all in order though to understand what’s going on. I recommend for people into the story of horrors rather than just the stabbing and gore, as well as the old dated style making the deaths not nearly as scary. I love it, you should give it a go.
Great list! I'd like to recommend Vile (2011), Vacancy, The Mothman Prophencies, Stigmata, The Ruins, P2, The Orphanage, Oculus, and Bait. I always enjoy your videos, dont always agree, but great content! Keep up the great work!
Ahhhh! Thank you so much. I recently found your channel & honestly, this is exactly what I needed. Obviously I’ve watched all the Halloween films & I’m obsessed with them as well was Scream, but I still consider myself a newbie. I just watched the Texas chainsaw massacre original & remake the other day & had nightmares, so I think I need to slow down right now so this video is perfect for me haha! Thanks girl! Happy Halloween! 🖤🎃
I started with the 1989 Pet Sematary, it’s my most important movie because it was the first movie that introduced me to horror and it’s also my favorite movie.
I LOVED horror movies when I was in middle school and now that I'm in my 20's I cant watch anything with having such bad anxiety so now I get my horror fill through review channels

So I definitely lean to older cinema, especially when I don't want to be scared or maybe just prefer a good/simple story? Here are five I think could be added to this list.
Psycho (1960) - a must see classic, not scary, but full of dread and suspense
House (1977) - your list lacked some foreign language picks, this is one that is kind of scary but very accessible to anyone
Phantasm (1979) - a recent discovery for me, amazing score, a few great scares, but lots of mystery and intrigue, highly recommend
The Changeling (1980) - a well acted haunted house/ghost story with no gore but lots of beautiful, gothic atmosphere
Poltergeist (1982) - some terrifying scenes but this is such a good movie for the entire family, everyone has to see this
I watched Poltergeist once and never understand why everyone loves it. Said that, Phantasm and The Changeling are amazing gems

I guess as a non horror fan (I get scared to easily) I missed some references and jokes! Really interesting to hear you perspective!
One of the horror movies that made me love the genre! Great recommendation
I think people who have already watched many horror films will appreciate Cabin In The Woods so much more
For me is like "look, this is a tour of what this genre has to offer, sit down, relax, enjoy, and let's see what we have next! Maybe some more cabin slaughter? Maybe Hellraiser? Or maybe water monsters or japanese horror films?".
I feel like I’m a horror movie fan bc before I could barely watch scary movies alone and now it’s one of my favorite things to do and analyze.
Your literally my go to feel good horror channel I watch a lot of other horror channels but I can always expect feeling good after watching your vids
One of my favorite movies
It's so good!
I forgot about that one! I used to love it
yeah honestly when i first started getting into horror i did a mix of classics and not super scary, great video !
I'm so stoked you mentioned Triangle! That movie stuck with me and basically no one I know has seen it or heard of it. Even to this day I think about the ending and how the loop could've started in the first place
love the new layout for displaying the movie names :D
I love horror movies! I would put Cabin in the woods, Scary Stories to tell in the dark, 47 Meters Down, The Strangers, and Escape Room in this list
Highly agree that Scream is so fun to start with!
Sleepy Hollow, Trick R' Treat, Coraline
Thank you for putting where they can be streamed! I agree with Scream, Jennifer's Body, Carrie, and Signs. I also think the I Know What You Did Last Summer movies aren't too bad for beginners
I would add Guillermo del Toro’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. It has almost no gore and is generally pretty tame but the visuals and writing are insane. It has some of the traditional tropes and the story is kind of cheesy, but overall a fantastic watch for a newcomer to the horror genre.
I watched this recently it wasn't to bad
Iv seen and experienced a lot of very "gatekeepy" responses to newbie recommendations that involves tones like: "horror is scary, if you can handle scary go watch a comedy."
that elitist mentality is so toxic and I want to prove that EVERYONE can find enjoyment in the genre! I’ll always have a good rec for a beginner 😊
Good call on Gremlins. Saw that one as a young boy & it was legitimately dark if not outright scary.
Jason c. Parker you should be making these videos. Not Stephanie(not sure what her name is)
orphan is a must for me..the twist is for forever iconic
I think Horror Comedies are the best introduction to the genre because it allows beginners to laugh while exposing them to aspects of the genre such as jump scares, gore, or messed up imagery. I would recommend Scream or Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Basically allows you to get your feet wet.
I thought Dave Made a Maze was a lot of fun. Probably leans a bit more into comedy than horror, especially if you already have a dark sense of humor. But I did really enjoy it.
I agree with your choices, it's a pretty good list already, but if you don't mind I'd like to add another 10 great movies for beginners:
- Trick R' Treat
- Sleepy Hollow
- Silent Hill
- The mummy
- ghost ship
- Alien
- The ruins
- It follows
- Orphan
- Ghotika
The Mummy original?
I'm still a horror beginner myself, but I'd really like to recommend Train to Busan! I didn't think it was that scary, and it's genuinely very good with an amazing cast. Very sad though so be prepared to cry
not scary, but it is incredibly intense, because it uses its setting and lack of weapons well and creates a lot of thrills and tension from it.
Thank you so so so much for including where we can watch these!
Hi there, so I know this video is quite old but I just wanted to say thank you so much for introducing me to The Sixth Sense I loved it so much I just finished and WOW the ending. I am still in tears. But I loved it so much so thank you I look forward to watching the rest of the movies on this list :)
House on Haunted Hill (1959) is one of the most fun horror movies I’ve ever seen, and I love it to death :)
just watched it today, fun one if antiquated
I love the 1999 remake more than the original one
I love the 1999 remake more than the original one
I AM SO EXCITED TO WATCH!!! you make my day every single time you post ❤️
This was so good! Your reviews are honestly the best
this list is incredible!!! 🦇 I never wonder why you’re my favorite youtuber!
So glad you mentioned Signs. I saw it pretty young and it's by far my scariest movie memory of all time. Great intense moments, great cast and great story about a man questioning his faith. Love it.
The first horror movie I watched was nightmare on elm street. Couldn’t have made a better choice. My favorite to this day!
I would also recommend 1408 as a good stater horror movie.i personally love this movie
Rosemary's Baby and House of the Devil! Excellent list, lots of favorites on this. I'd also say the Lost Boys.
I will stand by this till the day I die. Scream has probably the most genuinely scary cold open in the genre's history.
I have a soft spot for Crawl (I love creature features) so I’m so glad you included it.
I'm definitely not a beginner, but I think these recs are really good! I've been curious about Triangle for awhile now, and sometimes I need to take a break from super disturbing stuff.
I really appreciate that you put where to stream in the video, that's really helpful.
Also, thank you for listing streaming options!
I agree on the zombie movies. I would have like to see at least one of those on this list.
Thanks for the tips Isaac! One more zombie fan here.
REC is also a really good zombie movie!! But maybe a little bit too much for beginners
In case anyone is curious, The Others is streaming on Korean Netflix (so if you have a VPN you can watch it)
This is perfect!
13 ghosts was the first horror movie i watched asa kid and stilll love rewatching to this day! I wouldnt say its to scarey and has a great storyline!
That movie ruined me for literal days. I had never been so terrified in a theater.
I remember watching the others! It was my first horror movie experience and it defiantly wasn't too scary. Its a great place to start if your a beginner and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any gore!
Cabin In The Woods, Jacob’s Ladder, The Wailing, American Psycho, Scream
Omg I loved crawl and Jennifers Body is one of my fave flm, not just fave horror film!
I saw Poltergeist in theaters at 5yo and loved it so I'd say watch that one. I'd also recommend Monster House for families with parents who were never into horror but want to watch a great movie with their kids
The only thing about Poltergeist is it can be pretty scary to some people. A classic for sure, but maybe not in the beginner realm.
As someone who loves absolutely scary movies, this is still a good list for old classics I usually have a craving to watch just during the day.
I thought the video was called "where to stream them" and I was like "ugh I hate sifting through google to find what I want" that's ok though haha
Oh you did!
Also to stay on the theme of fear: if you're a beginner and you don't mind being scared but you wanna avoid gore, there are quite a few very scary movies that are very light on gore, so I think they can be good introductions too: the fairly underrated Insidious franchise, quite obviously; the Conjuring universe, too; once again, the Blair Witch Project; Grave Encounters (the sequel is sub-par to say the least IMO); Come Play; Darkness from 2002; the Ring (don't think there's that much gore at all in it, or am I wrong? it's been a while tbh); Lights Out (very good scary non-gory movie); The Hole in the Ground; Z (2019)
And ofc another well-known entryway is through horror comedies.
I genuinely love The Village and had no idea it was controversial to like until now 😅
The Sixth Sense was the first horror movie I saw and I was traumatised for years!!
My suggestions would be: The Return of the Living Dead, House on Haunted Hill, Fright Night, 13 Ghosts, Night of the Creeps, Ghost Ship, The Blob.
When you said scream in the beginning I was very happy (it’s my favourite horror movie of all time) that is the film I always introduce to new people who want to get into horror
Triangle is a great one too
I could sooo see her w a more orange dark tone hair color, love the content girl
thank you! I’m growing out my natural brunette hair currently 😬
Definitely Oculus!!!!
I love you for mentioning the others and battle royale, those are two of my favorite movies
I've been waiting and hoping for a crawl sequel!
I think Child's Play (1988) is the perfect entry level horror film. Not to gory, practically no jumpscares and yet its still really good and a classic
Always been scared of open water and that film terrified me! Especially when I know it's a true story! Great list love your videos xx
A Tale of Two Sisters or Ringu are must watch films for anyone who's starting to dip their toes in the horror genre especially that Asian horror scene
This video is awesome omg!! I agree so much with carrie, the others, and creepshow those where some of the 1st movies i ever watched as kid lolol
very happy to see battle royale on here. one of my all-time favourites! :)
I started with the 1989 Pet Sematary, it’s my most important movie because it was the first movie that introduced me to horror and it’s also my favorite movie.
Anxiously awaiting your review of Antlers!
I LOVED horror movies when I was in middle school and now that I'm in my 20's I cant watch anything with having such bad anxiety so now I get my horror fill through review channels
split is my all time favorite and i would definitely recommend it to beginners
