19-years ago, in a JCarterian mode of second-to-none, Organic Real Jazz of superlative quality, James Carter exudes earthy "saxophoniques" of immense verve. What an old head in a youthful body of Organic Real Jazz prowess! Sam Newsome and Dave Lieberman will adore and admire this kind of soprano saxophone aerobics, if I may. And so also would have John Coltrane and Rahsaan Roland Kirk. By the by, is Archie Shepp active today? He too, and Bennie Maupin; and Pharoah Sanders... Hope James Carter is being given the financial rewards that are commensurate with and comparable to his ability and sacrifice! Long live the arts - with no compromising!
JUST GREAT AND AS A BLACK MAN IS NOT KNOWN. SHAME ON AMERICA FOR NO RECOGNITION OF GREAT BLACK PLAYERS AS IF WE ARE NOT THERE. WE CAN HAVE LOADS OF REAL TALENT AND AMERICA MAKES US INVISIBLE.
Quartet works good together, but the mix is a little off. I would like to hear more of the primary solo than all harmonic rhythmic support. Because the sax is that good!
Tasty Cobra: Some will concur - in that James is setting the saxophonic bar way too high for the non-adventurous, and for the "Smooth Jazzers" of Instrumental Pop, RnB, RnR and Gospel. Quel Dommage! Lo siento mucho!
Thanks for the internet: Now, those who have ears will hear; those who possess eyes will see; and the innovative and dauntless will make the correct judgment call. Coleman Hawkins • Charlie Parker • Albert Ayler • Eric Dolphy • Ornette Coleman • John Coltrane • Rahsaan Roland Kirk • Michael Brecker • James Carter ....
No words can describe how great this man is!
