    I thought I had seen somebody do this before, turns out it was you!

    There's heaps of established skull-striping pipelines... it's what we do for every single fMRI study ;-) e.g. AFNI, FSL etc etc

    I printed the brain over night at 50% scale last night in 2 pieces... Unfortunately one half turned out fine, the other turned out to be what a brain on drugs could be imagined to look like... Spaghetti. Doh! Will have to try again. This is a complicated model

    I'd be more interested in one that can seperate the central component of the brain from the out component grey/white matter.

    Awesome channel Andrew. It was great meeting you today. There is so much potential with 3D printing and I can't wait to see what you print out next.

    Just get the scan/print process down to neuron-level resolution, and you’ll live forever!

    Cool, Freesurfer couldn't help?!

    • @AndrewSink
      @AndrewSink  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually tried FreeSurfer, but wasn't able to get it to work with my scan! I was disappointed, because I've seen some great results from FS!

    I had an MRI scan of my knee today and they gave me an online link so I can see the photos and all the slices. Problem is that I don't see a button to download the DICOM files :/ I'll try to figure it out though, it would be so cool to have a 3D Printed copy of my knee :)

    • @AndrewSink
      @AndrewSink  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure! What file formats were included in the download?

    • @SmokedHam444
      @SmokedHam444 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Andrew Sink I found a way to download the DICOM files :). Now there's a lot of fiddling around and cleaning up of the model, since it selects many other parts as well

    So, would a CT scan work for a 3d brain print?

    • @AndrewSink
      @AndrewSink  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure would! I actually just posted an updated video showing the CT scan process, check it out! th-cam.com/video/Pm_BxxHcqgI/w-d-xo.html

      Technically yes, practically no. CT has a shitty resolution in soft tissue.

    Ah man you could have had a much easier life by using a neuroscience toolbox! That would have also probably given you a smoother surface that is also more faithful to the actual shape of your brain and scientifically more accurate. Your surface looks somewhat rough - and it looks like it had still a lot of non-brain-tissue surface in it.
