The Norton Commader was a great software in my high school around 30 years ago.

I will never forget when my parents left the house for shopping and i secretly started the computer to start norton commander to play tetris and then i saw a new directory called "monkey island" and opened the .exe because i was curious what this might be. epic.

Over time, I've learned to appreciate Norton as carp. Quarterdeck had virtual execution and if they had combined it with their Motif X client could have challenged Microsoft Windows.
FYI, since DOS 3.3 vmm386 puts the cpu into Virtual386 mode. All Windows VMs were clients of vmm386 service.

The first editions of Norton Commander could reliably operate on quite humble processors and used very little disk space. Unfortunately, Norton Commander ballooned around version 4 and it never remained the same humble program. However, on a 8088 I still think that there is a true masterpiece of programming that works much faster, Volkov Commander. I have seen and reviewed such a program and although Norton Commander offers more features, Volkov's truly shines in just about any respect.

LapLink was a product back then. Could do serial or parallel. I have an original LapLink six-head cable. Was an indispensable tool from back then.
Better yet, get an NE2000 compatible card and port a DOS driver and do it that way.

You might want to invest in a couple of cheap HDMI to USB capture cards, a couple VGA to HDMI converters, and maybe a VGA splitter. It would really improve the quality of your console captures. A 1080p capture card and a VGA converter would could run you less than $15 at Amazon.

Build parallel and connect that way, it's WAY faster :)
I used that way 'in a day' to transfer data between laptop that had no cd-rom and my PC :)

I'd need to get a PC with a parallel port to give it a try.

    Thank you.
At the master can you use attrib command on the slave pc to copy hidden read only files?

I haven't tried. But looking online I seen some pictures that clearly show hidden system fiels.

Hi, i did see a screen there to copy newer files it was ticked or 'X'
You can use attrib in dos eg attrib *.doc -r-a-s-h
      - this is all from my vague memory that is what i used to do, i think ( right or wrong ) -r = no read , - a = not archived , once you copy it it becomes +a
It has been along time and i used to do this in batch files to set up directories for zip backup to floppy
If you use the other programs that map the slave computer as a drive letter you can use xcopy
      eg xcopy c:\*.* /e/m/s a:\
from my memory this will copy all files c-drive /e is for subdirectories even if empty , /m is files not archived then after copy it clears the archive attribute so next time is is skipped /s is sort of opposite of /e in that is skips empty subdirectories
the reason i use both is because you may have some subdirectories currently no in use but you need the structure
I have basically never really used norton commander, at work back in the day we had xtree and pctools, which done most of the items, and for remote machiens they used fastLynx2 which worked locally , over serial, over paralall and over lan ( i dont think TCPIP was out at that time it was novell or IPX / SPX / netbui connections )
Laplink, you could tag a directory or individual files, press a button F2 or F4 whatever it was and it copied it left screen to right screen
      Regards
      George
