    I love my SL and truly appreciate you dedicating a show to it. Looking forward to Part II. Would love to see you discuss recommended accessories; preferred settings for various types of shoots; third-party glass; recommended maintenance (and preferred methods/products); and whether you use filters (e.g., UV) on your SL glass. Thanks again!

    Great presentation. For one who uses his current M lenses on both a M and SL2, I’d like some detailed hints on using the M lenses on the SL2. Also looking forward to a program on the M10 Monochrom.

    I had to come back and say THANK YOU!! After watching this I passed by leica SOHO while working in NYC a few weeks ago just. Get a better look at the lenses and they actually had an SL2!! Picked up the 24-90 yesterday and I’m very impressed!! Coming from nikon this quite an experience! Hopefully I can purchase some Lenses from you in the future. What possibly doing a deep dive into the leica sl2 menu system?

      Your welcome! The SL2 is quite an amazing camera. Glad you got some hands-on time with it. We've considered a menu walk-through but it might be too long to cover everything. Are there any areas in particular that you think we should address?

    What are your thoughts on 50mm primes for the SL2 - specifically the Summicron SL vs the Summilux SL vs the M 0.95 Noctilux? Can the Noctilux resolve satisfactorily at 47MP? Which option is your favourite?

    Enjoyed this. I have an SL and shoot manual M lenses exclusively. I always learn something new. My only observation is I don’t agree that M glass on SL doesn’t out perform SL glass....It’s my opinion the opposite is true.

    Yes, I want a macro lens for the SL2. I have been using a Leica R APO Macro 100 /2.8 and the macro adapter with M lenses. Although the macro adapter with the 50 mm Noctilux is a lot of fun, I will purchase a macro SL lens on the day it is announced!

    Thanks, this was very informative. My question is, does IBIS on the SL2 work on 3rd party lenses? I shoot with Canon tilt shift lenses on the SL2 often and am never sure whether IBIS is active? Can I set a lens profile for them? Also, I’m a strobist so definitely would like Leica to cooperate with Profoto for HSS. Looking forward to part 2!

    Thank you guys! I'm really fascinated by the specs and always wanted to own a Leica camera but it has to justify it cost for my business workflow. Now, I feel I'm sold with the Leica SL2 but wanted to know about the tethering options. I work with Capture One and I don't know if there's any other software that can compete with it. Don't suggest Lightroom please as it's so slow for me in comparison to Capture One. Thanks!

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I have to suggest Lightroom as Leica and Adobe work closely together to optimize the processing of the files and this is what I use myself. But.... of course you can use Capture One and many do. To do so, you'll need to run Leica's standalone Image Shuttle software to control the camera and have incoming files go into a watched C1 hot folder. C1 then picks up the images automatically. We actually did a video on this 4 years ago: th-cam.com/video/GgLqb5veYPo/w-d-xo.html

    Very informative session. Thank you. I have a question regarding charging the SL2 using a power bank to its USB c port. I have attempted to charge the camera using a power bank and both a USB A to USB c and a USB c to USB c cable but have found the camera does not draw enough power using a USB c port on the power bank ( I tried using two different power banks) Furthermore, if I use a USB c power adapter, it will draw enough to charge the camera. Now, if I use a USB A to USB c (camera side) adapter, it does does draw enough to charge the camera battery, same as using a laptop computer, a USB A power adapter and/or a USB A port in a power bank. Any idea why this is? Are there any restrictions with charging the camera using a USB c to USB c cable and a power bank? Also, could you tell me what the color and frequency of the blinking led lights in the camera mean when charging the camera via a cable. Thanks again. Look forward to your reply and/or tune in to your part 2 in the SL 2 series.

    I also have few questions regarding the S lenses on the SL2. Can you confirm the Panasonic cameras not offering autofocus using the S lenses with the S-L adapter? The S lens autofocus was extremely slow and hunted a lot on the SL. I have heard it got much faster with the SL2 almost comparable to the S3 focusing performance. Can you confirm this, and show us how much better it got? Always, appreciate great content and information!!

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, absolutely! While no one argues the optical prowess of Leica glass, too little credit is given to their digital bodies. Absolutely stunning color, tonality, and file malleability. Also, Sony mirrorless bodies don't usually work very well with Leica M lenses wider than 35mm due to sensor design.

    Fantastic presentation! Can you discuss in Ep 2 - the focal distance scale on top of SL2. I have a Leica 24-90 and in the “Feet” setting, it seems to be way off. When I focus at 10ft away - it reads back 1.0ft. Focus .87ft Front .77ft. @ F8 on 35mm. ?? If I switch to m. It reads 3.1m Back 2.7m Focus 2.4m front. F8 @ 35mm. So, when setting the SL to MF for BBF, pressing the joystick activates AF-S or AF-C? If you continue pressing the joystick does it continue focusing? I'm currently using adapted M-glass but am considering an AF solution.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can select either AF-S or AF-C for back button focus activation. In AF-S continuing to press after focus lock won't do anything. In AF-C, the camera will continue to track focus continuously until you let go. Unless you have a specific reason for continuous tracking, we prefer AF-S (single).

    WOuld it be a good idea to put tape over the microphone holes on top of the Leica SL? I never use the camera for video, but it often rains or snows here.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not necessary. The SL, SL2 and SL2-S are fully weather sealed. The microphone holes have a membrane inside that prevents water from entering the camera. You're good to go in the rain and snow.

    As an old timer with an M3 outfit, I was wondering if my old M glass would work. Specifically, the 21mm Super Angulon, 35mm f2.8 Summaron with bug eyes and 50mm Dual Range Summicron? I have an M8 that the 21 just works with, even though it won’t meter. Will the SL with converter handle these old classics? Thanks!

    You talked very little about ISO noise. At what setting should we be concerned possible image quality degradation? In order to use high speed shutter for limiting motion blur and open aperture for depth of field, how high can I go safely with ISO? 1600 or can I set it 6400?

    • @RedDotForum

      The SL2 will perform extremely well at ISO 6400, with very little sacrifice in image quality from ISO 1600.

I often do long videos where my 2 batteries aren’t enough and I’ve heard in forums there’s a way to do this. I’ve had success charging the battery in-camera, which only seems to work when the camera power is off. Turning camera power on seems to disconnect the USB-C power to the camera.

    The 180/2.8 APO Elmarit R blows away the 90-280. The glass in digital doesn’t have to be as good because you have a sensor that can increase quality. The R lenses have to be quality because it’s the only means of getting beautiful sharp images.
    It’s The only time you see classic fine art film quality. Digital takes pretty pictures through, because you have a sensor and stabilized glass.
    China is catching up on leica in IQ, build quality and price. Leica is pricing themselves out of business. Leica is an analog masterpiece that really holds its value, not like digital Crap which other companies are involved in educating leica on how to make modern lenses. Leica are not worth 1/3rd what they sell for. I’m slowly phasing 35mm leica lenses and using superior glass for a fraction of the price. Your clients think leica is the greatest because you tell them it is. I have lenses from Nikon, Sigma, Canon, Minolta and others. Not to mention their products are a rip off. Sony and Fuji are breathing down Leicas neck in IQ for a fraction of the price.
