You really make some great videos. I really enjoy yhrm and feel as though I was in the 2nd seat. Thanks so much for your videos. I'm an old Khe Sanh Combat Marine and have so much respect for you pilots. Had it not been for the A-1E Skyraiders..OV 10 Bronchos, and B-52's from Thailand, we wiuld have never been able to hold on to Khe Sanh. Your videos have given me hours of entertainment since I am housebound with a lung tumor that is inoperable..and my gift from Dow Chemical and The U.S. Marine Corps..lol! Agent Orange strikes again. Please fly safe, sir..always and may you be blessed by God sd you wing your way closer to him then I have ever been.

LOVE your videos. As a fellow pilot, I especially enjoy your professionalism, candor and explanations so non-flyers can understand what is going on in the cockpit. Haven't logged anytime in a Premier, but I have logged time in a Lear 35, Citation II, and Beech King Air. The Premier 1A seems like a very solid, stable little aircraft!

I really love your videos. It's been almost 25 years since I last piloted one of my planes. I really appreciate your professionalism. The only part of what I can disagree is that flying at night is I believe, so much easier than during the day. The air is almost always smooth and there are fewer new pilots flying. When you're above the clouds you can see almost all of the traffic. During the day I never saw anyone unless I was within the area of the airport. Great videos, please continue to explain the capabilities of the Premier 1A.

Thanks for posting this. Watching a night arrival into an urban area from a cockpit is just about my favorite thing to see, next to being in the cockpit on a clear night and seeing cities hundreds of miles away. It's also interesting to see something of Indy Executive. Although I live nearby, I've never actually seen this facility. Looks like it serves the needs of corporate aviation well, less crowded than IND and far enough away to reduce traffic conflicts..

One reason I love your videos is the avionics in your aircraft. Sure beats droning along in a 172 or 182 hand flying all the way. Plus you are filing IFR, get above the weather, have ATC watching out for you plus you have collision avoidance. Yes, you have to be a technical pilot, but your workload is less. Plus your background flying F16's probably helps a lot.
Your aircraft wouldn't be single pilot without certification and insurance companies wouldn't cover it for the type of use unless they were comfortable with single pilot.
I used to subscribe to Flight Safety publication and learned a lot from other pilots misfortune and mistakes. As always, you need to look into the detail of the statistics before you can make an informed decision. Thanks for the videos as always.

As always, another nice flight from my home area, (IAH). It's always enjoyable to be along for the ride. Thanks for your efforts. It has always been my experience that most accidents can't be blamed on the aircraft or the design of the aircraft. Some planes that seem to be accident prone can usually be traced back to some pilots who ventured beyond their abilities or were distracted. Case in point - When I lived in Corpus Christi, we had a glider club and we had several accidents involving failure to latch the canopy properly which didn't always result in a crash but was costly for the person making the mistake. A new replacement canopy cost around $5,000. We just had a safety meeting with instructions on getting the canopy latched properly and the very next day an older member of the club wanted to take his grand daughter for a ride. Wouldn't you know, he was distracted and failed to latch the canopy properly. When the canopy flew open on tow he tried to grab it and decided to abort the tow. He released the tow line and attempted to turn back to the runway but caught the wing tip on the ground and cartwheeled in. The glider broke in half just behind the wing and the entire left wing and tail section was demolished. Fortunately his grand daughter only had a minor scrape on her leg and arm and he was not injured. In hind sight he had plenty of room to land straight ahead and he should have let the canopy go. It would have been much cheaper in the end. That mistake ended up costing him about $35,000 since we were self insured. First rule in any emergency, "Fly the Airplane". The man decided it was time to give up flying after that incident and the club members were in agreement with that decision.

For what it's worth I reviewed several of the Premier accidents that P1D spoke of. In one there was a passenger/pilot in the right seat. The pilot allowed this pass/pilot to fly the aircraft and was advised to pull the power back by the pilot. The pass/pilot apparently then lifted the pull-up locks on the throttles and retarded the throttles beyond flight idle, into the fuel cut-off position. The a/c then lost all power which attributed to the accident. The second accident both the airplane’s flight manual and a placard in the cockpit warned against extending the lift dump in flight, the go-around was attempted with the lift dump deployed, making a safe climb almost impossible. Now I am no expert on the Premier and I don't know how either of these systems work, but both of these accidents sound a lot like pilot/operator error. I also agree with P1D's remark about distractions from the right seat. We were always instructed during jump seat trips to not speak below 10,000ft unless spoken to. Sorry for the lengthy comment. Kudos to P1D!

Thanks, Greg. Regarding the single pilot safety comments - After seeing your piloting skills, and flight management abilities, I have every confidence you err on the side of safety always. There are those pilots, and just people in general, who cut corners. That only lasts so long before there is an "accident", which was no accident at all.

I believe one of the crashes you referred to was in Thompson Ga which caught a power pole on go around. Those suits are still in process due to the power company not notifying the FAA of the over height pole but the report was listed as pilot error. It took out a medical team which travelled from Augusta GA to Nashville and other clinics they operated. Your flights and commentary’s are very much appreciated. I follow your single pilot videos and Corporate Pilot life which is one of Presidential Aviation teams operating as Presidential 69. Your industry is very specialized and much needed. My wife recently made a trip to a Cath lab about 6 weeks ago. It’s amazing how quick the equipment gets the job done. It was a successful procedure. Like the new Go Pro’s. Saw the 360 view the other night.

    • @gregmink
      @gregmink  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Unfortunately, that one was completely avoidable. The passengers weren't wearing their seat belts to begin with. The pilot landed with a brake failure that was annunciated in the cockpit. He shouldn't have landed on that runway with the known problem. And then he attempted to go around with the lift dump deployed. Very unfortunate loss of life for very avoidable reasons.

thanks so much for taking the time to shoot, edit, and post these. I'm utterly fascinated with the skill and art of flying and the seemingly cool and collective manner by which you pull off every flight. +Premier 1 Driver Eh, if I phrased another way, I get really nervous in the air. Dates back to when I was a kid enjoying a flight with a family friend who was battling heavy crosswinds on final. All of a sudden he grew rather concerned, rudder was giving him trouble and in the aftermath said flaps would not fully extend. From the outer marker on, it made for an interesting few moments.

My husband agrees that the Premier 1/1A is a great airplane and one of the best single pilot aircraft made. Also it has more headroom in the cabin versus CJ1/2/3/4, Phenom 100/300 and the Lear 45/75. He wishes that the 200 had come into production. The upgraded engines gave another 4K ft in altitude to FL450. The accidents that have occurred with 1/1A's have been determine to be pilot error. The one here in Georgia was due pilot error and the infamous Jack Roush of Nascar fame crashed his Premier 1 at the air show was determined to be pilot error. We love your videos!

I enjoyed your answers to Jeremys comments about the SP-Ops for the Premier. I believe that once you have the systems worked out by hand given that most of the systems such as the Hydraulics, Avionics, and the Environment, icing and engine systems have been throughly briefed and have been address pro-actively, a basic consistant order of use can be simplistic. Although there is the tendense to get complacent, a continuous effort to maintain good airmanship and diligence with the systems can be achieved with good checklist. Havng said all this, if you need a co-pilot I will make myself available and I know how not to touch anything, and to sit back shut up and enjoy the ride. he he.....

Not just a one dimensional video, thanks for all the contextual narrative. Always good to hear ATC. Perhaps more on monitoring aircraft systems at each stage of the flight - probably automatic for you but will be new to many and part of their conscious workload if they are new to this type of flying. Some commentary on the vagaries of your industry would also be useful as would anecdotal tales of "life on the road".

Enjoyed the presentation. Very nicely prepared. Would like some videos on KIAH arrivals during a busy slot with captions on ATC interactions. Thank you.

+Matha Goram Yeah, I'm sure it gets pretty busy on a weekday and surge times. I usually wouldn't go to this airport but it was next door to where we were meeting so it made sense this time.

I think some people forget that you also flew the F16 fighter which is much more complex and demanding airplane.
    Love your videos.

P1D Excellent video! I think this is a great way to spread some knowledge to your viewers. I will try to keep my messages short now. As a controller, I have viewed quite a few videos, I have not heard any unusual phraseology on your part. I think the way you fly has a lot to do with your military training. I have viewed several videos like flying single engine prop up the Atlantic Routes. To me, even though technology has made them safer, I don't think that's wise. Love your videos, love the editing. Take care!

I always enjoy your vids. I am not knowledable about flying..my wife's cuz flew a Velocity that he completed the build of it....he has a wing leveler to act as autopilot to some degree. His first plane was like a Quickee but darn if I can recall t he name of it...he build it from plans which is amazing to me. I recall riding to Riverside Co on July 4th and saw a lot of fireworks. bye, Chuck btw, I shall google for your plane and learn a bit from that :)

When I saw "Houston Departure" I was hoping you would be leaving from KIWS, which is roughly three miles due east of my house, but leaving KIWH is okay, too. Right when you say "Have a nice view of the airport out the right side there" at about 6:55 you can also see the Houston Police Academy and the Baker Hughes facility where I used to work.

If I compare flying a Turbo Arrow vfr to flying a Malibu, Baron, Meridian and Premier 1 or Citation IFR , I especially notice that IFR is easier than VFR and the more complicated the plane gets, the flying becomes easier and more relaxed. Every plane has its charm, but if it is affordable, the choice is obvious: Speed and altitude, and so comfort and less stress. I'm sure you appreciate that.
