    Cool series! I actually learned something about (Arch)Linux in what has seemed like forever. This is the kind of intermediate-level vid that I wish there was more of.

      Thanks! Glad you find these kinds of videos useful.

    Quite funny how you have to learn how to install an AUR helper from AUR manually only to learn later what an AUR helper is actually doing. As a guy who learned all of linux from arch wiki....these things make so much more sense.

      You can download *almost* anything from the AUR 😛

    Paru doesn't require -S to install a package. To update you can just enter 'paru' - but topgrade does so much more.

      For installation it does require -S. Not sure what you mean, but updating can just be done with just the paru command. Will check out topgrade, it's on the list!

    I still wrote my own bare-bones aur helper that uses fzf for picking a package (just one). :D

    I find myself wanting to do everything myself but at the same time i don't have time to be screwing with it 100% of the time 😂 im perfectly fine with being able to choose what does it for me

    what is that fancy terminal you using ?

  • @Sqwert-g6h
    @Sqwert-g6h ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Don't you have to manually install AUR helpers from the AUR? If you can do that, then it kind of defeats the purpose of saying you should know how to manually build it.

    • @EricMurphyxyz
      @EricMurphyxyz  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes but many people (including myself) go through the installation process without an understanding of what they're doing, essentially just pasting in commands into a terminal

      I'm late, but distro like EndeavourOS ships yay by default. It's nice to see how they work before trying Arch myself.

    Afaik enable notifications does not notify you when a package gets updated but only when a new comment was added.

    • @EricMurphyxyz
      @EricMurphyxyz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't it both? I haven't personally used the feature but I've heard from those that do. Hope I didn't get that wrong.

    • @nico1337
      @nico1337 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EricMurphyxyz I'm maintaining some AUR packages and it's enabled by default for your own packages and I don't get update notifications. I've also enabled it for some packages not owned by me and I never received such an email .-.

    It's impossible to use an aur helper without knowing how to manually install aur packages, because the helpers themselves are aur packages 😂

    I'll just stick with my dual boot tweaked windows 10 and linux mint... I don't have time for this shit unfortunately.
