    Fun Fact: Sparks is the fastest power crept card in the game's history.
    It has the Serial Number LOB-055, meaning it was Card #55 in the Booster Pack "Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon."
    The very next card in the same set, Serial Number LOB-056, is Hinotama.

      I’d say that record will never be beat but power creep in Yu-Gi-Oh is so crazy I would be surprised if somehow Konami finds a way.

    I love how you mention situations in which these cards could be useful. Most people who do "worst card" videos just end up ranting about old cards.
    The way you do it makes it interesting to watch and shows that you know your stuff.
    Love your videos!
    Keep up the good work!

      I know, right. That's an unfortunate trend I noticed with a lot of TH-cam channels. They either do a "How to fix [Insert name of Video Game/Show/Card Game/Etc.]" or a "Ten Reasons why ___________ sucks", but hardly ever go into why they think it's worth fixing or what the positives are.
      This guy actually put in some extra effort to come up with some situations where the cards where viable, though not really useful, and I can appreciate that.

      Yea
      Totally
      I never knew there were cards that could combo with this cards to make them better
      It sorta reminds me of 5ds yusei motif
      Of how there are no bad cards alone they may not to much but together anything is possible

    • @cameronharding6055
      @cameronharding6055 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ratchetandclankfan2 Going further, the first and 6th card can be used together to essentially eliminate problematic draws in the near future. For example, if they have one, preventing a Kaiju from reaching their hand in case you managed to set up a beefy boss monster with protection that forces them to stall out turns. It also can be used in conjunction with any cards that force the opponent to show them your hand in order to prevent future plays. It’s still a bad card, but I can think of minor uses for it. Abyssal Designator can also probably be used to counter exodia decks if you know the opponent is running one. It’s still underpowered and most people won’t run Exodia, but it does have that use.

      I have a suspicion that at some point they wanted specific cards to counter specific cards. So, like, Dark Magician would have been able to counter Blue-Eyes with a specific card, or something. But, they didn't do that, and instead added flip monsters, and generic traps to counter cards. So, theoretically, knowing what your opponent was playing would have been useful to know how to counter it.
      I think they tried to implement the 'counter' archetypes thing later with stuff like Ally Of Justice, and Meklords. But, the problem became that they would make a very good archetype and a bad archetype that was meant to counter it but didn't because Konami made it so that the archetype could only counter specific plays and monsters, not stand on its own. After that, they just gave up on the whole idea.

      @@qty1315 I think you're right. There were even cards like "Last night of the witch" or something like that, which specifically destroyed one type of monster. And that monster that Pegasus used that flipped (the effect was different in the anime) all dragon monsters to defense position.

    • @smackdashitoutchu7755
      @smackdashitoutchu7755 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Pegasus's ability was way better than these cards though. At the start of every single duel, he knew every card in your hand, every card in your deck (because he could read your mind) and every card in your Extra Deck (back then was just the Fusion Deck, and wasnt as big of a deal). He also knew all your combos and what you were planning, he also didnt have to draw any cards for his ability and didnt have to go -1 either.
      For a card to be as good as Pegasus it would have to read "You can activate this card from your Deck at the start of the Duel, if this card is in your hand also draw 1 card. Your opponents hand, face down cards, extra deck, and side deck become public knowledge."
      And even that wouldnt be as good as Pegasus's ability because you still wouldnt know your opponents future plans, though if you know your opponent and/or the deck they're playing you could probably deduce their most likely play.

    One use of Abyssal Designator is for Yugioh video games. If the opponent doesn't have a monster matching the type/attribute combo you select, they have to show you their deck so you can confirm it. As a result, you can use this if you're writing a game guide of some sort to figure out what each CPU's deck consists of by selecting a combination that doesn't exist :)

    There's a classic strategy in M:TG called Lantern Control where you combine a way to see the top card of your opponent's deck with a way to shuffle or mill one whenever you want, thereby ensuring that you can selectively remove their draws.
    So the shuffle once per turn ability with Convulsion of Nature still wouldn't be good, but it would probably be pretty funny.

    After watching this, i realized these cards are not bad, it's the new cards that are utilizing power-creep over and over, and how greedy is Konami, you know, just doing business. In old days, players supposed to buy more random cards to get better cards, or trade cards with players.
    YGO in 5-10 years (2025-2030):
    -every new card has way too much text that Konami decides to use short abbreviations for every effect, "Once per turn" becomes "OPT", "Banish" becomes "B", etc LOL
    -every new card has self-protect, destroy bunch of cards, search the deck, special summon itself and other monsters, has atk/def 5000+ etc. Every card is a whole-lock-down LOL
    -every new monster can special summon itself from anywhere LOL
    -GY & banished not enough, so 1 or 2 more super GY and super banished will be introduced LOL
    -more special summoning LOL
    -field becomes double the size LOL
    -the game will be like you either FTK or you lose LOL

      Nah, these cards were terrible even when they came out. You'd get The Inexperienced Spy and Ancient Telescope in the original two Starter Decks and you'd immediately replace them with basically any other card you could get.
      The game's current cancerous meta is already "either you FTK or you lose" and has been for years. Also, the game is ALREADY pay to win, or rather "pay to compete at the meta level", and always has been.

      @nicolaistuhlmuller8718 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly all those cards are bad, and always have been from the very start, and that is for a simple reason: They cost a resource: themselves. The amount of stuff you can do is determined by how many cards you have on your field and in your hand, and if a card in your hand is a useless spell card, that means you can do less than your opponent. That alone puts you in an awful spot.

      That's Spell Power Grasp, and it's once per turn though, so it's not like you could just cycle through this card 20 times in one turn. The recycle play could only ever come into play on turn 7 in the best possible scenario, assuming you go first, play a spell power grasp on turn one and turn three, then use recycle on turn five to make sure the spell power grasp you activate on turn five gets you another one for turn seven. And that's the literal best scenario assuming you lead the game with spell power grasp and draw a recycle early enough. That's... straight up awful.

    Solomon's Lawbook is a trap that skips your next Standby Phase. This allows you to bypass major costs in decks like Amorphage or D/D/D, but lacks utility for the fact that it is one shot and (especially for D/D/Ds), the first turn of the game is usually more important than later turns, and this is a -1 when you draw it.
    However, it does produce some very positive effects in a deck like Amorphage and probably could have been a great tech if it were continuous

If you are running a casual "convulsion of nature" deck where you get to draw cards that are on the bottom of your deck if you guess them correctly (with the support of the true name, gishki diviner and archfiends oath for example), you can shuffle your own deck to choose the best cards to draw.
