    Limited palettes are so much easier for me and way less stressful than having to choose amongst 30 other colors. Thank you! I love these mixing videos so much! The painting is beautiful as always Steve!

I love to try these, they are slowly getting better and better. Not quite this quality yet, but I keep giving it another go. I love using a limited palette. Thanks for sharing this one!

    once again, a beautiful painting appears out of runs and dribbles.
    this week my challenge , with your set, was blueberries. who would have thought blueberry color would be so difficult to mix, after several hours it worked -Indian yellow was the secret ingredient.
    next week, it will be greens. thanks again for your videos

    I am amazed at how you generate an image from your mind. I need something to look to paint. I've always thought that this is a shortcoming of mine that means I am not truly creative or an artist. Could getting over myself and doing more spontaneous work lead to satisfying results?
    Btw, this sketchbook painting is quite beautiful.

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. You can do it! It takes some sketching practice from images you look at to begin with and you should continue to do that sort of painting anyway. Or from life on location, etc. So you're on the the right track. You have to fill up your visual database (brain) so to speak.

    • @robertcochran7103
      @robertcochran7103 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would agree with Steve. I am not a even a good beginning artist, but I began my career in a different field a very long time ago, and I practiced, practiced, practiced. I worked with a lot of examples provided by others, and over time, with a lot of patience, loads of mistakes, and try, try, try again, I became pretty good in my work. This is very similar to what Steve is saying. Repetition, practice, experience will flow into your brain and transform you.

    Hello again! Would you be able to do a tutorial on developing various successful triad combos for different types of watercolor paintings pls. For flowers, landscapes,
    Whatever in your expertise painting skills. It would mean so much to me as I have learned so much from one of my favorite artists.💙❤💚🧡💛💜

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just keep watching and note the colors I use in various situations then experiment with your own. There is so much flexibility and personal preference in color choice. I don't have a set strategy for choosing a color scheme nor do I think that one group of colors would be best for any given genre like landscape. It can be traditional or quite experimental. Here is a good example. th-cam.com/video/Svhn3vnaYno/w-d-xo.html

  • @patriciasell
    @patriciasell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    And love your spontaneous paintings! What about your thoughts on a 3 or 4 color combo suggestions regarding my below comment? Thank so much Steve 👍❤

  • @stephw1363
    @stephw1363 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think i need these colors! Are your picks all transparent? Any granulating? And why oh why is it always ultramarine that is in every single set in the world? Is it that necessary really? Cuz i love prussian blue and cerulean....am i missing something? What is the ultramarine thing i dont know? And also....i love the butcher tray palette! Looks like a dissecting tray to me tho cuz of my sciencey background. Science has a need for observational drawing too and its funny how often those two things coincide. Almost as often as genius and madness.....hee....sooooo.....talkin skull not withstanding....thankyou for your watercolor genius! 😉👍❤

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ultramarine is definitely not essential but yes, common place. I suppose because its a decent, economical, middle blue pigment, only slightly warm leaning. Cobalt Blue is a good sub but not as deep. Ultramarine in this case is the main granulating color. Red iron oxide is also to a degree.

    • @stephw1363
      @stephw1363 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mindofwatercolor thanks i just thought maybe there was some reason that everyone knew but me. I love so many blues and just kinda get thinking why this particular one is so often the one....and in my lesser grade paints maybe the magic is not included. I do now have five sennelier tubes in the sampler set and thats my first professional grade paint to play with....i mixed some lovely tones with the yep you guessed it ultramarine they included, but i would have preferred one of my other favorite blues i think. Maybe it isnt the hue itself but what you can mix with it that makes it the staple?

    Last night I asked about a neat oriental style brush you were using but didn't know which video ii was from. It was in this one (a study in greens) and it was Lebanzon (???) goat hair. Can you tell me the length of the goat hair 1", 11/2 or more and did you have a Wangi handle. Looked kinda cool to me !!! Yes, I love good brushes. Thanks, Steve, for your help!
