For all the people writing negative comments about Shaun. I have worked at the same building sites as him. He is a tradie and owns his own company, hes definitely not stupid. Im pretty new ro 4wheeling, and ive watched heaps of videos, and ive gotta say mate youre the realest dude out. Single handedly inspired me to buy a 76 wagon...
I understand why people are kind of biting at him for the setup and why some mods may seem odd, yeah the guy is probably rich what ever, i honestly love how clean the build is and really dig the portals
Fair enough this guy works hard and can spend his own money how he wants and I respect someone who wants to build a car even if you can’t do it yourself aslong as you know the basics fair enough get someone to build it for you go and take it out and have fun. Only thing I would say is why waste 30 grand on portals and running 35’s on pretty much road tyres, anywhere you need portals and 35’s those tyres don’t look beefy enough to get you there. All in all a great truck and good on the guy to work hard and pay for it, who cares if it’s bought aslong as your out there and having fun, just don’t see the point of all that money and not proper off-road tyres 😂
This video inspires me to write, it's not only Australians that build cars. But you are building really nice travel cars. I have a HDJ7 with integrated pop-up roof, i use daily and for travel. Which is a bit unusual since diesel is 3+ AU$ a liter. What might be interesting is that I'm building a Volvo TGB 20 chassis 6X6 portal axles. The chassis is fitted with 80 series body and 1 HD FE engine. The wheels are 335/80R20 on 20X10 split alu rims, which gives 60 cm below the axles. There are many many details, alternative solutions. To me it is important that everything is as I want. Few details: Wide and extended body to fit in a 20 '' ship container. 6 doors. 2 Toyota - 3 Recaro - 2 Sheel-man seperate seats + one two person bench seats. Most seats can be removed and some mounted on the roof so that they can be used for viewing seats as the landscape passes. Integrated diesel tank of about 900 liters. Most parts are at home. But much work needs to be done. One of my travel dreams is to sail to Australia and drive home. (I'm in love with your country. And would gladly spend 1 - 1½ years with you. You are good mates.) Next trip Sweden - Mongolia. Australia when I get retired. Best greetings Henrik Sweden
You aussi are mad lads best.. You have the best mods on 79lc in the world.. My dream one day is to have 79 series and mod it like this..all respect to you guys✌️
Very impressive wagon fella. Plenty of coin spent but it's your baby so enjoy. Microwave............ i don't think my lads would let me get away with that one, lol. Good work mate. ATB Moose.
I noticed ARB continues to use a spring washer and a flat washer when they fit bull bars.Defeats the purpose of the spring washer. The bolts will eventually work loose.
Wow and again wow. This guy went all out doing what i only dream of doing. The custom work is so well done and neatly too. Ronny can i say there were some moments you were so gobsmacked that you lost your tongue. I liked all that he had done to the vehicle. The only thing i didnt like was the colour but then thats his choice. What i found surprising is the lack of jerry cans for fuel. Did i miss that. Doesnt look like he has enough fuel for the long trips. Ps that bundutop rrt is made in south africa. An excellent rtt.
I really really do not understand this vehicle. It is interesting and well done to the guy who's done it all out. Why on earth would you want a 6" lift and portal axles if you're doing mostly highway driving? These specific hubs overheat and obviously raising the centre of gravity is no good. As to keeping the weight down but adding a huge canopy and crazy heavy roof tent? It seems like this guy was sold the full brochure instead of doing the vehicle that's right for his needs. I hope I'm wrong and really, congratulations for going the whole way on these interesting mods.
They are 200 series gx rims.... and they are a positive 60 offset, you dont need 17 inch rims to clear the brake calipers. I dont believe they change the brake booster. Portals only give you 4 inch lift and then the 35's give you another 2 inchs to give a total of 6inch diff clearance. Diff breathers are also moved up into the engine bay. Should have done a modified with someone who knew something about what they had bought!!!
the guy is incorrect. 6 inch lift is including the larger wheels. the portals on there own raise the car 4inch but they are engineered to suit 35s meaning 6 inch total lift including 35s.
that was my first thought too. The only build I have seen that rivals this that actually gets used as more than a demo vehicle is the 4xoverland troopy. the hedlights on this truck are almost 800 dollars a piece.
Beautiful beast I must say, great to see someone using their hard earned and go all the way!👌👍😎👏 wonder how much it is in total, incl the purchase of the truck... cheers from the other side of the world, northern hemisphere.
glad he built this truck not suv that might cost the same thx for this "hi end" mod ron.. combined with low ends, diys, reviews learned a lot from you portal checked, next vid with rear steering mod maybe??? what brake system mod that lock right/left for turning tightly?
It's interesting to see why some mods are done, not others. Maybe some more questions about 'why' rather than just 'what' mods people have would be good

Nice rig, look at these negative comments few jealous blokes I reckon
hey mate wondering if you would consider swapping for a 2002 Holden Astra??
the nitro night vision lights are tops, great for distance and the headlight upgrade is well worth it on a 79
Definetely one of the coolest modifieds yet, great video. Would love to see a 60 series on here. Have fun in nsw.
Fascinating stuff! I'd say Ronny's making some of the best vids on youtube!
absolute weapon!!! best cruiser i've seen to date... easily
Dream truck easily one of the best looking I’ve seen.
One of the best builds I've seen!
This is a very smart vehicle visually and the awesome modifications like portal axles etc etc 👍👍👍👍👍✌
That truck/bakkie is proper. It's ready for the open (off)road.
So much jealousy in the comments ... Good on him, absolutely awesome rig !!
agreed, I like this rig very much...
@@Ronny_Dahl which company made his canopy???
martin arthur , trig point
Great looking rig, love the portals. Trig point second favorite canopy.
How's the squashed fabric at 4:56 .. so much for push button closing.. clearly still have to go around and tuck stuff in.
Having just scored one of these 79 series, I keen to find out more about portal axles and a 3inch DPF for exhaust.

Holy cow, the guy decided to get every possible mod available. Hope it doesn't keep him from getting it dirty.
During Q&A I saw Ronny sitting on a tree stump but the other Fellow looks like he has really strong legs or an invisible chair
I so wish we could get real Land Cruisers here in the US. Amazing machine.
Great set up , I'm off to buy a lotto ticket . Seriously what about breathers on diffs etc ?
Flintlock diffs are so high up, he probs doesnt need them mate 👍
Probably in their somewhere. I saw a winch today that had a gearbox breather! Ever heard of that?
yes you can fit a breather to most winches

Oh, and did I get this right the winch has no manual override? That's nuts.
probably needs a 3inch stainless exhaust and diff and gear box breathers in stead of portals
It’s a vehicle built for bragging rights.
ChawenHalo 008 yes, the hubs probably aren’t the ticket for extended miles, especially at highway speeds
Rolly B probably needs to be bone stock except alternator and rear axle correction
I wish the 79series was sold here in the US.
Also, love the 79 but man, with portal axels... Holy crap, it looks even better!
Great modificated truck. Clearance is allways the most Important mod.
If i have the money i would do the same...
I would easily own this, portal axles and still using leaf packs????
Still need to carry weight I guess

that one will only be a matter of time. Probably when Sam gets back from his next trip for chasing lines
Is it finished?
Blake Hoskins he just did one btw, in case you didnt know

Thanks mate
Ronny any chance you could tell me what the name of the holders are that hold the shovel etc to the roof of this guys canopy??
The conversion to Leds for the headlights. Are they a simply a globe swap, or is it a complete headlight swap ?

Serious mods wow - now I also want Recardo Seats - please share which model was fitted
great looking rig
Are portal axles just as reliable as a standard lift?
Ronny I think one of your questions should be how much to do the mods
Portals and Recaros! Your next mods Ronny!
I Wonder what sort of Fuel Consumption this rig gets.25ltrs per100 plus?.Be good to know how these Mods affect that.
IPF250 wouldnt be more than 13
15ltrs per 100.mmmmm sitting on 90kph maybe.
he said 15
IPF250 I'm getting between 15-20L/100km with my portals

Hisham Ghori some motor home or caravan ac units have tubing you can run into you tent if you bought a unit and fit it to your vehicle
I’ve seen battery 12v rechargeable evaporative AC’s exactly for this. No idea if they’re any good though mate.
So what's the approx cost of a Portal Axle system for a Series 79?
on there own about $21,500 but with everything else another 5 or 6 more (tires, brakes, air comp, engineers cert, etc)
Wow here I was thinking about $10k
FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARK!
Dungbeetle the portals for my 76 series cost me 30k drive in drive out 👍
Wish we had them in the USA. The 70 series land cruiser would put American truck to shame.

Good looking vehicle, I like these vids.

I think he would have been better off fixing the biggest weakness of the 79 series and replacing the rear suspension for coils.
That's what I was hoping for after seeing the portal
It isn't the biggest weakness? What are you on about. The leafes are there for weight carrying and the portals widen the rear track which was always the issue

25k worth of portal axles ;)
I AM JEALOUS, BECAUSE I LOVE PORTAL AXLES. portals would the best mod you can do to a 4wd in my opinion.

Duramax comp I personally disagree, it’s much better to do a small lift and tyres, the cost of portal axles are well into 5 digits
4wd some
yes you’re right it is bloody expensive!
but if you have the coins like this bloke why not.
Really cool rig but vanilla all terrain pro comps are pretty lame tires to pair with portal axles.
