Nikon 24-120 Lens - Review and Camping Adventure GONE WRONG!

  • I got my hands on the 24-120 f/4G ED VR lens from Nikon (thanks to Roberts Camera). This is a GREAT lens capable of working on both full like the Nikon D850 and crop sensors like the D3500. I paired this lens with my trusty D3400 and headed to the mountains for a photo adventure!:)
    What went wrong? The lens preformed with tack sharp results without issue, however bouldering down a rock face in the dark is not the best idea:).

      Thanks for the post/feedback!:) You date back 3 years and hopefully have enjoyed the ride:). I am thinking about creating a video giving my thoughts on the current state of photography. Just come across your channel recently.
    I love how you use inexpensive gear to take great photos.
    And also how you take something simple like a leaf or a sign and make an interesting picture.
    Just bought another nikon and you are teaching me a lot.
    Also love some of the music you use in your videos.
    Keep up the good work.

    First of all, it's a pleasure to see both of you fine. I love your videos because you stick to the basic models. When one has D810 or D850 along with f/2.8 or f/1.4 or 1.2 lenses, there is hardly any chances of going wrong. On the contrary, it's a challenge to pull out with a crop body coupled with kit lenses or at best f/1.8 lenses. Will wait for more videos.

    Another great video and so pleased to see you are still using a DSLR like the D3400. There is a big push towards mirrorless, and I was almost tempted with the Nikon Z50, so I could keep my lenses, but after going for a long walk with my D7200 with both my kit lens (18-55 I got with my D3500) and my second hand 55 - 300 Nikon I realised there is nothing the D7200 can't handle at my level, so I am sticking with it. But got hold of a new camera bag instead. That incident could have been very ugly but they happen so easily, glad to see you are safe.

      Thanks for the post/feedback Alan:). I shot with the D7000 for many years and even took it with me to shoot the 100th running of the Indy 500. I had pit passes and captured shots for various sponsors some of which used resulting images on billboards and publications. I believe awesome images are not so much about the gear as they are about the photographer's ability to use the gear and compose a shot:). Enjoy the D7200 and keep shooting!:)

I love the camera but if I could change anything I would add bracketing as a feature and fix the difficult snap-bridge app. I hate to upgrade just for those two things so I continue to use the timer and manual bracket myself. • @Vendetta725
      @Vendetta725 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Get the Tamron 18-200mm. With this lens, nothing beats that extra reach than if you stay with the 18-55mm. Besides, the latter is just a kit lens anyway which comes with any Nikon DX body.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Image quality on both is tack sharp without any major issues in my opinion. I shot with the Tamron 18-200 for many years and really enjoyed the lens. I would still be shooting with it today if not for the deal I received on a Nikon 18-200 (it came with a used camera I purchased from a friend). If you go for the Tamron, you will have extra reach and can leave the 18-55 on the shelf:).

      Thanks David and you are correct - when falling at night and unable to see, the anticipation of landing becomes a great challenge:).

    Sir , You may wish to grab a few LED head torch/flashlight -- miner & diver style . I use a cheap one (cob led) while building or repairing PCs . Just put it atop my head & it floodlights everything in the direction where I turn my head to -- while keeping my hands free for work . Must be useful for you while camping at night 👍 👍 Take Care . God Bless .

      Thanks for the post/tip:). I actually had a headlamp on but the beam was relatively narrow ... I was moving relatively quick and the base of the tree looked sound until my foot landed on it and my weight transferred. It was a very interesting experiences and one that I will learn from:).

    After shooting full frame for a few years I would not be able to accept the quality out of the D5600.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post/feedback:). I have shot both for many years and typically grab the crop as it is smaller and fully capable in most situations, however I do like the full sensors in low light and depth of field (great for portraits:)).
