My favorite Weber album is The Following Morning. It's the most haunting album I've ever listened to and when I rediscovered it after 30 years again, it still moved me.
I thought that I was the only one in the world that liked that album. I discovered TFM when I was 14 years old (in1978) and re-shaped my concept of music. Still is THE album I need when want peace and still every time I listen to it takes me to another dimension. Thanks Eberhard!!
so delighted to see how these accomplished musicians rehearse, and to tell myself it's so worth the money I paid to own the album seeing all these guys' effort.
To quote Mark Knopfler, "That ain't workin', that's they way you do it...maybe get a blister on your finger, blister on your thumb..." Yah, sure. Welcome to the blood, sweat and tears behind "getting the sound just right."
This is not Pat Metheny !!! 1.) he is wearing a cap ... 2.) his shirt is plaid ... 3.) he is not jumping backwards while playing the Roland G303 Synth Controller ... just a joke ;O)
I wonder if he's (a) suffering from migraines or (b) balding and hence the cap and (c) whether he's had a minor stroke. His face seems a bit collapsed.
I found one at my local second hand record store, the day after listening to this film. Brand new, unopened $7.99! Couldn't believe it. The only copy they had.
Why is there this "Eberhard" by Pat, and now another one posthumous by Lyle, with no apparent relation between both, except by the same title?? And so little talk about Mays in the recent Metheny's interview with Rick Beato... I'm having little trouble here
Both pieces have very different histories and timelines. Lyle's piece was written for a certain appearance at some festival around 2009. He choose to record it in 2019, his illness being a possible motivator for that (in order to preserve the music in recorded form). The Metheny piece is in light of Eberhard's 75th birthday. It makes sense that they are two distinct pieces with no relationship given their different trajectories. But what seems a more valid point is why Lyle was not included in this particular project. There could be many reasons for that, we will probably never know. I believe Rodby wrote in the linernotes for Eberhard that Lyle had more music lying around to be recorded, but just didn't got the time left to do it. The Beato interview was interesting but even with it's almost 2 hour length, it barely scratched any surface. Rick just didn't ask much about Lyle, probably because he is more interested in discussing Metheny's actual playing and had to make choices what could be discussed within the relatively short time frame he had. There was no discussion about the Way Up either (for example) even though that might have been of interest, also given that Beato likes to analyse stuff and goes more in depth in music theory. There is many things which were not touched up on, even things Metheny himself said he would get back to later in the interview (like discussing Song X). That's unfortunately just how these things work. On the other hand, it leaves space for more interviews. The "problem" with Metheny and Mays is that Pat Metheny is the star and Mays kind of the sideman. Pat and Lyle were equally important for the result of whatever the PMG resulted in, but even without the PMG, Pat has a long lasting diverse career and is highly prolific in his output. The PMG "only" makes up 1/3rd of Pat's output so to say, meaning there is still 2/3rds where Mays has no involvement. Given that Mays basically retired after The Way Up and we are 16 years further down the road, Lyle is not really center stage/top of mind anymore in interviews and other media programmes.
I once heard Pat speaking of necrophilia when Kenny G was dubbing and old Armstrong track. Regardless the quality of this Jubilee he's now standing somewhere close to the ethical edge 😂
When ever the music plays you will get your head blown off if you turn it up loud enough to here speech. Got thru it. Thanx! I can help you with mixing next time if you need.
Hi, it worked like this: Pat Metheny took a lot of bass solos that Eberhard recorded and that were on video. He then wrote the 30 minute piece around that. During the performance the videos were on a big screen and the sound was mixed live into the music, all musicians had a click, and so it appeared as if Eberhard was playing with the orchestra, which he in a way was...
Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, Ralph Towner and many great musicians playing for Eberhart Weber. This is beautiful.
8:17 I love how Pat and Gary Burton are so in-sync.
@Lian Cassius yea, I've been watching on Flixzone} for since december myself :)
Pretty cool watching you the production. Pat is awesome. Living legend.

Yes me too after 44 years it still haunts me
Same here! My fav from Eberhard. Perfection!

I'm wondering if Pat Metheny is really a magician. When Pat gets 2gether with Gary Burton and other elite musicians it's magic !
an amazing documentation.... thanks for this.

Lazy Slip i saw this live in Stuttgart, just great!
The highlight of the hommage performance is the mini PMG reunion with Pat Metheny and original drummer Dan Gottlieb
Wonderful work!

I love that colorful looking studio.
Thanks!
This video could really use a qualified sound engineer. Aside from that, great!
The audio is all over the place. I’m an engineer, but it’s not geek minutiae. My 9 year olds noticed.
But, it's a rehearsal!
This is awesome!! 🔥
cool video, but it could be better if the audio was mastered properly.. Cant hear the talks..
excellent film
Wow, interesting project. Will look for the music.
A great jubele' for Eberhard Weber. He also played on some Art Van Damme records(BASF). Nice records from early 70th.
great...masters! wow

100% he's bald and he wears a big auld wig!
yes it is Pat !!
Si, es PM
The other day and night
Someone knows were to find the live concert of the album?

Lots of my heroes.
The ultimate music class. My only question is why Lyle Mays was not there as well? Had to be some reason.
Did Lyle pass away be4 this took place?
@@emilsabatini4038 Impossible. He died three years ago Feb 2020, almost 2,5 years after this vid was loaded.
@@corporeidad You should be directing your comment to April M.
@@emilsabatini4038 No, you are wrong. For you were asking, so I answered. As Pat's album, *_"Question and Answer"_* 👌👌.
@@corporeidad I was not even aware I asked that question. Prior to this comment I did not see it until now! Thanx 4 the correction!
The great Scott Colley!
Where's Ranier Brunihaus?
ya man real musicians , serious mothers . heavyweights .... and monsters all in one room .
Maravilhoso
What's with the terrible micking of people when they are talking. Surely they could have picked up the volume in the editing process. Argh.
Especially considering that they're in a professional recording studio. Lol
Yeah, this is unwatchable.
Unbelievable
14:58 Pat goes " little more expressive, in each part". Is he playing with germans?
Que ótimo ambiente de ensaio, que profissionalismo!!
Pat seems to play as nobody can do, he seems to play like having breakfast ...Maestro Pat
That's Danny Gottleib, right?
yes! Lol! It was an amazing reunion , playing with Pat again after so many years! And Eberhard is SO important to all of us. I was so honored!
Metheny wrote the chart that he plays on??? That’s interesting if true. Not many examples of him writing horn charts.
Whats that tune in the beginning of the video?

@@santibanks Great insights and info, thank you very much!!
12:29 the way up??
That's what I thought.
Everyone seemed to be nervous working with Pat.
Eb.Web. R.I.P. !!
whoa whoa whoa slow down.! ..He ain't dead yet..
@@adgo22 Sorry, but still: he ain't doing anything anymore ...
7:12 Danny Gottlieb!!!
Where did Ralph go?
He got ill during rehearsals and couldn´t play that night. But he luckily recovered soon after.
I can mix this audio, FOR FREE. Please, send me and I fix it in 24 hours.
I really hope they'll send it to you. And why such a lousy sound in a documentary on THIS topic? That's really sad.
Can't get past that Am/C# awesome lol
merci

Pat looks like he's weeping at points.
Yeah, was quite an emotional project.
He should be, after making that terrible French horn joke! Just kidding.... Sort of.
WTF the sound mix of the video!!!!!!!!!
6:46 if his career in music wouldn't have gone as planned he could at least have had a shot in the lord of the rings movies as a Hobbit.
As precious as Monna Lisa
Was this project accomplished by the musicians overdubbing parts over preexisting bass lines/parts the Eberhard had previously recorded?

Metheny reminds me of Jack Nicholson up close.
to me it's the other way around
where the f is eberhard?
He's in a seriously bad health condition. I don't think he comes out of his house anymore.
The sound is distorting in this video.
Jack Nicholson's let himself go. And that hat he's wearing...
cell phone quality audio
The irony of a recording about music & you can't hear Pat Metheny talking.
Pat , older😢
But still young at heart. I like how he has mellowed but still has that enthusiasm.
This mix is terrible! You can't hear the people speaking...
