Everyone put their phone lights on in the audience, you could almost hear a pin drop. And they sang it just beautifully. You could hear them perfectly despite the lack of mics and the vastness of the arena. Just beautiful. They are truly talented people.
As others have said, Scott wrote this for his nephew, but he thought it fit Avis voice better so he asked Avi to sing it. At first Avi wasn't sure because the song is so personal to Scott, but he was honored to do it. It's on their 2015 album, so it was far from one of the last songs Avi recorded with the group. Their last recordings together was the PTX vol. 4 EP - so Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, Can't Help Falling in Love etc. were the last videos with Avi. You are correct about it being the 2nd to last song he sang with them in concert though (and Sing being the last one).
This song is written from the perspective of a parent singing to a small child at bedtime that's afraid of the dark as they lie in their bed at night. Scott wrote it for his very first nephew after he was born and Mitch helped him with part of it towards the end , but this was Scott's song and he intended for Avi to sing it. They talked about this on a Superfruit episode and Scott says he and Mitch were both weeping openly by the time they were done writing it all. The timing coincided with my first grandchild being born and this always brought me to tears because being a Grandma for the first time was very emotional for me. I didn't know how much you can love your grandchildren, just like I didn't know how much I was going to love my own children when I became a parent. It's something you can't explain. one simply has to experience it. Every time I listen to this song I imagined my grandson being afraid and I wanted to comfort him and it would make me cry just thinking about it. This is just a beautiful song! They had no idea Avi was leaving when this song was written.

This is a beautiful song, one of my favourites. Another one of my favourites is also an original by them called Standing By. It doesn't have a music video either but Avi has the lead and Scott does the bass the entire time so I'd love if you could to react to it!

This would make a great lullaby. Your not the only one to have a Pentatonix video blocked, probably the same one, Deadgirl Superstar also did. I just found the biggest group you've never heard of The Haschak Sisters. These four young artists don't do covers, they write there own songs, most of which have over 100 million views. There channel has over 3 billion views. So why have they not been picked up by Disney, Nicalodeon, Kids Bop or somebody? Check out their song "Dad Says No" and see if you can relate.
I think PTX lost some control to the record labels over stuff like fair use/blocking. Very little of theirs used to be blocked. Either that, or it's TH-cam themselves doing it more strictly now based on broad agreements with the labels tightened up in recent years.

Avi wrote Standing By. They sang Light in the Hallway for a couple of years before Avi left as a tour only special. The one the 4 of them did as Avi was leaving is "Dancing On My Own" with Kevin playing the cello to cover the missing bass part Avi would normally have provided.

I think I recall in an interview Scott said it was meant to be a lullaby and that he pictured Avi singing it. Avi has such a tender and soothing tone.
