I've always been very fond of the Mind Games LP. It's an excellent album. Tight A$, (Wherever You Are) You Are Here, Intuition, Out The Blue and I Know (I Know) are among my favourite Lennon deep cuts. 1973 was a truly wonderful year for Beatles fans.
He had good seventies output and his lost weekend work is extremely underrated Not my favorite John Lennon bc I prefer The Plastic Ono Band or Double fantasy but Mind Games and Walls and Bridges are my favorite albums from John in this period

By the end of the year, I had _Red Rose Speedway, Living In The Material World_ and _Ringo._ For Xmas that year I got _Mind Games,_ my first Lennon album. I also have a clear memory of buying the 45 with the picture sleeve. I'll be 64 this year and still love all these albums, plus many more from years of collecting. Whenever I hear _Mind Games_ today I'm instantly transported to that magical age when I discovered the greatest band in the world, who have influenced my entire life. I met my wife through Beatles collecting and we have raised a Beatles child. Whatever music I listen to now is filtered through their incredible talent - _"Is it as good as the Beatles?"_ Few things are. They changed my life and it all started in 1973. Mind Games forever.
My favorite song on this album is "Tight A$." Love the wordplay. I have spent lots of money on The Beatles over the last 60 years on concerts, records, videos, books, posters and magazines. I'm done. The only things that would tempt me is a box set of Rubber Soul or a video of The Beatles Love show which is closing this summer.
We talk a lot about formats but the most important thing is sound. These boxes allow us to rediscover all his albums at their true value. The 6CD/2Blu-rays/Book for me ! A "Sometimes In New York City" Boxset could be great !
I love this album l! I remember buying the CD at the time. Much later I bought the Lennon Anthology Box set and there I learned about the different version for Mind Games. Great video as always!
Nice episode Andrew! I think your promotion about the new album is quite wonderful…and tasteful. I would love an Uber Set but living on a fixed income throws that dream right down the tubes. It does look beautiful though. A work of art indeed! This was one of my favorite Lennon solo Lps. Played it over and over, even in my cubicle in art college. I took every tune for what it was. Pure Lennon songwriting. A lovely way to ease out of the heavy political arena he helped many of us understand was vital for freedom(s) and awareness. I’m glad this LP is getting some attention like this. Thanks again for a lovely informative episode.
Personally, I think John's best work as a solo artist all come from the lost weekend. Regardless of what people think of Yoko, I just never liked her contributions to his albums. So the idea of 3 completely Yoko-less albums is always a good starting point for me. But I also think that this was something of a creative high for him. I think going back to his roots on Rock'n'Roll and also getting away from Yoko's controlling clutches allowed him to reconnect with his rebellious and cheeky spirit. These 3 albums are a lot of fun to listen to and bring out all the best attributes of John Lennon as a solo artist. I'd say that Mind Games might actually be a better song than Imagine, which I know is a big claim, but I think it captures the blissful feeling much better. I don't believe in heaven but if I did, I'd imagine that it'd sound something like that song.
Mind Games vs Imagine - I'd say Mind Games wins...both good songs, of course, but why just imagine there's no this, no that when you can realize "yes" and "love" are the answers. Mind games has a sense of joy to it that Imagine lacks. I love the phrase in the chorus "I hope someday you'll join us..." - so both songs have very good points about them.
LOVE mind games but can’t compare it to Imagine. Very Different songs, Imagine had more impact, a better song songwriting wise it’s perfection. But I love the sound and lyrics on mind games
Hate to burst your bubble, but John and Yoko didn't separate until this album was almost completed. Also, what contributions do you think Yoko made to POB and Imagine, that she didn't make for Mind Games?
Mind games is my favorite John Lennon album. The only problem I had with it was the sound of it but when it got the remix treatment in 2002 it blew me away. The Mobile Fidelity vinyl and CD sound amazing. I do love the box sets by the Lennon estate for both content and design and will be happy with the 6 CD set for Mind Games. Thanks for another great video Andrew!
I've gotten couple MFSL CDs that totally blew me away after listening to the LPs for ages... like BLUE OYSTER CULT and DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED. It was sad when I heard they went out of business.
5:25 Why are so many fans incapable of reading, or even listening to the lyrics? It's "Out the Blue", not "Out Of The Blue." The album and song are fifty years old, yet this really simple fact escapes people for their entire lives.
Funny thing about Mind Games is that when I walked into a local record store in October 1973 and bought it, I had no idea John was releasing a new album. Even in those pre internet days I can't remember that happening with any other ex Beatle release. Though primarily a record collector I'll be getting the Deluxe CD/Bluray set. Gotta have the 5.1 mix and all the rest. The MFSL vinyl will remain my go to for vinyl.
The power and value of "Mind Games" and "Plastic Ono Band" grow - together. Having troubles, in life? Listen to both. Then, ask yourself about your troubles. Your work has never been better, Andrew: Thank you for it.
I love Plastic Ono Band also, but I don't think Mind Games has anything as unendingly underdeveloped and unlistenable as Well, Well, Well and Remember. I can't make it through those two tracks on POB.
Out the blue is one of my favourite Lennon solo tracks. The chord changes are really clever and all over the place, but it works. Great bass and piano on this track and the acoustic intro reminds me of Across the universe.
Looking forward to this release. Pre-ordered on first day. One song that blew me away back in the day was Outta the Blue. Very under appreciated. Thank you Parlogram!
@Parlogram thanks for your reply big fan of yours. I was wondering did you ever review any epic bootleg releases. For example, Beatles Not for Sale I believe was the first record that had Leave my Kitten Alone, and That means a lot. If not what record had those 2 songs first?
Thank you, Andrew, for another great album and career-snapshot overview. One correction: the song title is “Out the Blue”. Not “Out OF the Blue.” (The Lost Lennon Tapes radio series made the same error.)
Hi, Andrew. Great video, as always. Good to have some perpective regarding the original Mind Games mix. Thank you for that. But I disagree that "Apple are keen to keep The Beatles for everyone...". Unlike Pink Floyd or Zeppelin, it's not easy to find some Beatles albums. I mean, try to buy a copy of a specific Beatles album in mono (CD or LP). You have to buy a box with all their albums in order to get the one mono album you want. The most annoying thing is: besides being pretty expensive, the box is no longer available!! It's impossible to get a brand new mono copy of any Beatle album.
@@danny1959 Our original copy was the 973 Apple pressing - later on it was the green label Capitol Re-issue, then the mfp when I started working downtown early 80s - THEN I became aware of second-hand record shops and found a 973 Apple which sounds sensational. Full circle.
I’ve got the original copy on vinyl and probably only played it a half dozen times in the last 40 years ! I’ve got all of John Lennon’s solo albums, but they’re not something I’d regularly listen to apart from the main singles that were released off them. I hope all the people that purchases the various formats of this release enjoys them.
Who said it’s his most underrated album. It’s always been my favorite since I heard it. I could do without the female singers but the songs are great for the most part.
Yeah, that was really common place. With 8-track cartridges, they had a good excuse, because if you put everything in the correct sequence and then made it so that it only switched channels between songs, you end up with a ton of dead air at the end of the 4 tape tracks, which was no fun either. (no rewind or fast forward on most player models, especially for car units.) They ran out of excuses when it came to cassettes later, because there was no need for track skipping, and one could easily fast-forward at the end of a side of tape. it was purely a way for the big companies to save on tape costs at the paying listener’s expense… and so they would rearrange the artist-intended sequence just to save themselves that little bit of extra cassette tape if the sides were of slightly uneven length.
There is a quad 8 track of Walls and Bridges which is quite a good mix. Only two programs, not four, since each program uses four tracks. No split songs when the program changes, but the fadeout of "Steel and Glass" is about a minute longer to even out the program lengths. I assume we'll be getting these mixes in the eventual Walls and Bridges deluxe set. Glad to see that unlike Apple the Lennon estate is still providing Blu Ray disks for the multichannel and hi res versions. I'm still annoyed that Apple is now only releasing the Atmos mixes via streaming.
@@spherbert8080 That Apple decision still bugs me. I want my Blu-Ray. I tell everybody when the subject comes up. And I still want my Blu-Ray even though I just said it a moment ago. 🙂
Once, Ringo said that "all the material we considered to be the best is in the albums". I live in Argentina and is virtually impossible to get and to buy these kind of expensive editions. I am not a coleccionist by force. And I'm tired to see that kaind of releases. I only bought White album and Abbey Road anniversary box sets, both on CD because have more material and nice books. Since them, I did not buy anything. The fans want to have 27 minutes version of Helter Skelter and Carnival of light, and no little colour mirrors that have no value at all. I don't want to hear the 234 take of the same song that I have listened a thousand times. The Beatles (and each one of them solo carrers) have a lot of more interesting material that the one they are releasing. I piss me off. Thanks for your programs. The info and the retro edition is superb and I love it. Best wishes from Argentina.
I never warmed up to the MInd Games album, but I always loved the single. I look forward to hearing the remixed version, hopefully it change my opinion. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
Andrew, your videos are always so informative and creative. Thank you for what you do. I for one am always grateful for your knowledge and sense of humor. As for Mind Games; I will be purchasing the Deluxe edition with 6CD’s/ BluRay set. I would absolutely love the Super Deluxe edition, but I just can’t afford it. I have always loved this album and I look forward to hearing all the different mixes.
I look forward to being able to hear the songs' new mix, and the alternate mixes will be interesting, too, but I'm not going to spend all that money on the super-deluxe box set. Your commentary on the album, plus the visuals are good, and I'm glad I watched this video.
Amazing album. Absolutely love it. Very even compared to Walls & Bridges. Out the blue is a gem. Only One Day at a Time is a track that doesn’t thrill me at all. For me, Mind Games is the third best John’s album, beige Plastic Ono Band and Walls and Bridges number one & two on my list. Cheers from Argentina, Andrew! PS: I’ve got a tattoo that says Love is the answer
I did not get the big collectors set, but I definitely would if I was not retired and on a set budget ! I did order the deluxe CD set, the double vinyl and the 2 CD set. This is my standard order with Beatles and solo Beatle issues. Take care.
The All Things Must Pass crate box came with actual ceramic gnomes. If the sons of The Beatles wish to honor their father's legacy by creating art packaging, so be it! It is so creatively brilliant. We can also get all the music in more affordable formats.
Great presentation as always Thanks once again! I listened to “Mind Games” on Spotify recently along with “Walls and Bridges” It’s always great to hear John Lennon’s voice but apart from the song “Mind Games” and “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night”, there’s not all that much to return to… As derided and dismissed as “Sometime In NYC” is, it holds up way better in terms of great songs and recorded performances As you move away from live performances- the way he was restricted and hassled, it keeps you off the streets and the new listeners…
Another great addition to the channel and overview of this record, Andrew. Mind Games b/w Meat City (which I adore) was the first single I ever bought with my own money from the tooth fairy ha ha. $.99! I got the album after John died as a green-label Capitol budget album and thought it was only OK , an opinion I still have now. I am looking forward to listening to the deluxe version on streaming, though.
Ordered cd deluxe set - I could not justify the Uber set - I did buy the George Harrison Uber set - one such set is enough. I like the Mind Games but prefer earlier Lennon releases. I am really looking forward to Walls and bridges release. Great vlog - thank you.🙏
Probably the most listenable Lennon solo album. Just realised I’ve never actually heard the 2002 remaster and I loved the buried vocal sound of the original. Great video
Mind Games was the first John Lennon solo album I bought, having gone full tilt into collecting all-things-Beatles in 1973. It’s always been my favorite Lennon album. Looking forward to hearing the new mixes.
Parlogram, I really enjoy all your videos and take your recommendations seriously. I certainly consider your opinions, even if I disagree or don't share your priorities. I am not an audiophile. Just a fan rebuilding my vinyl collection of Beatles and post-Beatles. I love the remasters, but I can't afford the box sets or uber, super collections. Keep the great videos coming.
I will probably be getting the Ultimate Mixes 2 LP set. Mind Games is one of Lennon’s albums that took a while for me to warm up to, and when it did. It became one of my favorite and cherished Lennon albums. I believe it has taken rather harsh and unfair criticism over the years. But those are just opinions and ear about music. I am hoping the deluxe treatment will open more peoples minds to this album. Hey keep playing on those Mind Games forever! Great video Andrew!
Great video and thanks a lot for the information about this album and this upcoming release, Andrew, however - and only *slightly* inspired by the title of George Harrison's 1970 album - I definitely feel that my old credo "All Things post-Beatles Must Pass" will not change anytime soon... ;-)
Thanks Andrew, some interesting film that you were able to share. Very enjoyable. My guess is that you will be showing that Super-duper box set in due course. I already have three copies of this album on vinyl, and while it is a decent record, I don't think I'll be jumping on this. Maybe I'll get a single record or the two lp version in due course. The extra 60 tracks are pretty much iterations of the 12 tracks on the album and I am not excited by the prospect of listening to evolution mixes. I do look forward to hearing the new mixes though. I am not crying myself to sleep now that the Super Deluxe edition is sold out. I think back to what Allan Kozinn said about the All Things Must Pass box set, he bought it, went through it once, and now it sits in his office.
Great video. As a kid who grew up in the 90s, I always wondered why the "lost weekend" albums were considered lesser than, when for me, I found Mind Games and Walls & Bridges to be my favorite solo Lennon albums (as well as Rock n Roll just being flat out wild and fun). Was it John and Yoko's narrative about this period being off the rails that affected first-get fans opinions of it in the 70s and 80s? I'm very excited for the Mind Games box, because I think the songwriting is inventive and melodic on this album, it feels like John's most Beatley and varied album, where he does so many styles and produces it all himself, which I love, and the only thing ever holding it back was a poor, muddy original mix.
I have the American first edition and the CD. I'd love to get that box. Oh yeah! As a musician. As a Beatle lover. As a collector. As a reader. My God!!! ♪♪♪There's Lennon's on sale again♪♪♪ Can't wait.
The very beginning of Mind Games sounds like the very beginning of the Whip Bird when it makes it distinctive sound ( to my ears!) which we have in Australia. Maybe he heard one when he was here in '64. Thanks as always to you, Andrew. Another great video. 🎸👌
Another great video MIND GAMES was a welcome return . It had the potential to be a son of the imagine album opening up with the title song . The track are ok some are better than others . The nutopian theme is a return of 2 minutes of silence . So the album has its good moments but I enjoy walls and bridges more in my own opinion
Nice film Andrew Walls & Bridges the next album is one i'd like you do for an in-depth video it's my fav solo album he did, I'll just settle for the 2 disc cd edition for me on this one, take care.
Always loved this album and never understood why the critics panned it. It got me through tough times and sleepless nights. The "ballads" are great and the rockers are great. I also think it's pretty damn close to The Beatles. Loved McCartney's Ram and Red Rose Speedway in the same way.
Lennon proved in his solo years how much he needed a team of people like George Martin and McCartney to realize the bits he could not. I find his solo stuff half baked at best with the odd exception.
I too passed on the All Things Must Pass Uber Box despite being one of my favorite albums. I am guilty and ordered the Mind Games Super Deluxe. Despite poor reviews this is one of my favorite under-rated John Lennon albums and I am so happy to add this huge box set. Question is where to store the huge foil cube.
Great video. I think the Beatles’ history is always fascinating. Can I confess that I am not a great fan of the solo works? I promise to start using my Tidal account to exploring these albums soon. Thanks, Andrew. You really keep this channel interesting.
‘Meat City’ is a bonafide Lennon ‘hidden’ gem for sure but I must agree with the apparent majority: why on earth was this jaunty upbeat number chosen for the last track of the album?! It’s a natural opener, second track or even side 1 closer all day! Such a strange decision. 🙂
Totally agree. It was on the B side of the single when Mind Games was released. Also IMHO the single was mastered better than the LP. To be sure, I played the original 45 from that time and it was distinctly better. I happened to have a new old copy to play.😉
The original mix and the running order did Mind Games no favors in 1973. I like all these songs but would have re-ordered them. Meat City as track 2 is a great idea, rushing in right after Mind Games. I think this album could have ended on You Are Here, personally, with Bring on the Lucie opening Side 2. Looking forward to the remix!
@@paulreckamp7502 Over the years, I've run across a lot of 45s that were mixed way better than the LP versions of the same songs! Like "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "The Story In Your Eyes", and "Help!"
Hidden gem and hidden message! As I've mentioned previously in comments to another video on this channel, the backwards vocal part on Meat City is different on the single version. On the single, he says «buy the album» but on the album he says something else (since the album version is more readily available, I leave it to you to figure it out) but I always interpreted it as indicating the «feud» with McCartney was over. And you can think of the Ringo album as a sort of symbolic reunion since they all made contributions to it.
Hmmmm...Mind Games came out when I was in the 4th grade and I was weirded out by the single's picture sleeve and more so on the album jacket. I did enjoy it though and will probably just get the reissued vinyl double lp. Another good review Andrew
I did buy the vinyl box for All Things Must Pass, but not the uber deluxe with the gnomes and all that, the one with all of the outtakes, demos and book. I wasn't going to but I got a job at a record shop around the time that it came out and thanks to a staff discount, I was able to afford it and I'm glad that I got it. As for Mind Games, I'll see how my finances are when it arrives in store. If I can just get all the songs and outtakes on vinyl then that'd be my ideal choice.
I’ve always like the Mind Games album. I bought it the day it was released and then the first cd , then the re-mastered version. I’ll get the 2 cd of the Ultimate mixes
This was the first Lennon solo album I bought. It was on a day trip to London in 1978 with my older brother and I have very fond memories of this incredible album. Like all his work, it’s a bit uneven at times but I still love it. I’ve placed my order for the Super Deluxe Box because I think it looks like a work of art… and I can’t wait to hear the ultimate remixes.
You forgot McCartney/Wings Red Rose Speedway and Live And Let Die for 1973 My Friend ❤ ps I love Out The Blue..oh and Meat City..Mind Games is beautiful 😍
Mind Game is an amazing single. I was 10 years old and got it when it came out. I couldn't understand why it wasn't getting AM radio play and charting higher. Out of the Blue and I Know (I Know) are White Album worthy. Freeda People is another great Peace March anthem. It's fun to think what adding McCartney to Mind Games and Lennon to Band on the Run would have created. :)
I intend to purchase the CD box set and the two-LP vinyl version. The remixes that have shown up on the Gimme Some Truth overview and the Mind Games EP bode well for this release.
It's my favorite Lennon solo album. I listen to this album constantly. Lots of beautiful songs.
This album is a slow burner. Play it enough times it grows on you. "Walls And Bridges" is the same. Don't write them off, persevere.

A lovely way to ease out of the heavy political arena he helped many of us understand
was vital for freedom(s) and awareness.
I’m glad this LP is getting some attention like this.
Thanks again for a lovely informative episode.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Brian. I'm looking forward to the sound of the new mixes.
Completely agree!
Hate to burst your bubble, but John and Yoko didn't separate until this album was almost completed. Also, what contributions do you think Yoko made to POB and Imagine, that she didn't make for Mind Games?
I quite like this album. Always appreciate John's desire to change things up, explore, and speak(sing) from his own point of view.
Thanks for that Bill! Glad you enjoyed it.
I've gotten couple MFSL CDs that totally blew me away after listening to the LPs for ages... like BLUE OYSTER CULT and DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED. It was sad when I heard they went out of business.
My favourite Lennon album! So glad it's been reissued. :)
5:25 Why are so many fans incapable of reading, or even listening to the lyrics? It's "Out the Blue", not "Out Of The Blue." The album and song are fifty years old, yet this really simple fact escapes people for their entire lives.
I'm glad I'm not the only one then.
I thought it was outta the blue.
Lennon made art period. I'm glad you're doing this. ☮️
The Beatles were the soundtrack of my youth. I was also a child of the 70's, and appreciate your channel. Subscribed!
Thank you and welcome!
Thank you!
No way can I afford the box set sadly but I did order the 6 CD set.
@@poetsdreamsatc Hardly anybody can, really. It's completely ridiculous.
Hope you enjoy it!
The 6 CD / 2 BR Deluxe Set is what I preordered the other day. Can’t wait to have it in the mail 👍🏻
My vinyl copy is the EMI budget version. My original US vinyl copy was worn out. I have always loved this album.
Was your EMI Budget version on Apple label or EMI?
@@mark9058 MFP. I also have a George Harrison Dark Horse on the same label.
Female singers are fine with me.
It is my favourite Lennon solo album next to "Double Fantasy" and "Milk and Honey".
You showing how the EMI 8 track changes and there is a gap in the song gave me chills. 10:00 gotta love the limits of technology in the 70s.
Yeah, that was really common place. With 8-track cartridges, they had a good excuse, because if you put everything in the correct sequence and then made it so that it only switched channels between songs, you end up with a ton of dead air at the end of the 4 tape tracks, which was no fun either. (no rewind or fast forward on most player models, especially for car units.)
They ran out of excuses when it came to cassettes later, because there was no need for track skipping, and one could easily fast-forward at the end of a side of tape. it was purely a way for the big companies to save on tape costs at the paying listener’s expense… and so they would rearrange the artist-intended sequence just to save themselves that little bit of extra cassette tape if the sides were of slightly uneven length.
I finally listened to Sometime in New York City, Mind Games, and Walls and Bridges recently, and I really liked them.
I never warmed up to the MInd Games album, but I always loved the single. I look forward to hearing the remixed version, hopefully it change my opinion. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
I've decided to pay an imaginary £1,350 and have had my imaginary order confirmed for my imaginary Mind Games Super Deluxe Edtion Box set Andrew...😉
My imaginary credit card was declined. It didn't even ask for anything
Imaginary credit cards are all you need in Nutopia.
I'm listening to the Nutopian National Anthem extended version right now!
Imagine that... It seems like Sean's been playing mind games with us over the pricing.
@@KebabMusicLtd Remember who his mum is.
I re-listened to it a while ago during a trip on a vinyl rip. It really grew on me. It's definitely an acquired taste.
Glad you like them and thanks for posting!
More of a fan than a collector. I will be buying the Deluxe 6 CD/2 Blu-ray set. Enjoy all your videos.
Thank you. Much appreciated!
I did not get the big collectors set, but I definitely would if I was not retired and on a set budget ! I did order the deluxe CD set, the double vinyl and the 2 CD set. This is my standard order with Beatles and solo Beatle issues. Take care.
Great video! I learned a lot about Mind Games, thanks for your work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The All Things Must Pass crate box came with actual ceramic gnomes. If the sons of The Beatles wish to honor their father's legacy by creating art packaging, so be it! It is so creatively brilliant. We can also get all the music in more affordable formats.
I'd like a mini-sculpture of the image of John's head with Yoko's head lying horizontally on top.
Great presentation as always
Thanks once again!
I listened to “Mind Games”
on Spotify recently along with “Walls and Bridges”
It’s always great to hear
John Lennon’s voice but
apart from the song
“Mind Games” and
“Whatever Gets You Thru
The Night”, there’s not all that much to return to…
As derided and dismissed as
“Sometime In NYC” is,
it holds up way better
in terms of great songs
and recorded performances
As you move away from live performances- the way he was restricted and hassled, it keeps you off the streets and the new listeners…
Excellent segment. Thanks much for the great info. Probably a double cd buyer for me on this one.😃
Glad it was helpful!
Ordered cd deluxe set - I could not justify the Uber set - I did buy the George Harrison Uber set - one such set is enough.
I like the Mind Games but prefer earlier Lennon releases. I am really looking forward to Walls and bridges release.
Great vlog - thank you.🙏
Yes Uber set is beautiful but way out of most peoples league- great video as usual- looking forward to MG!
Probably the most listenable Lennon solo album. Just realised I’ve never actually heard the 2002 remaster and I loved the buried vocal sound of the original. Great video
Thanks Julius!
Thank you, Sir. Will do!
Thank you, Sir!
Great video! I won't be rushing out to buy that mega box set!
Mind Games is kinda Trippy! I think it reminds me of John's songs on the white album.
I'll have to miss this and hopefully can pick up the material itself in other formats in the future.Keen to hear this than to chase.
You can pre-order it for 40 bucks on I tunes, the deluxe version, of course.
Elvis Lives, in the hearts and minds of fans and admirers for a very long time.
Great video and thanks a lot for the information about this album and this upcoming release, Andrew, however - and only *slightly* inspired by the title of George Harrison's 1970 album - I definitely feel that my old credo "All Things post-Beatles Must Pass" will not change anytime soon... ;-)
Great album. Love it. His first 4 solo albums are solid.
I LOVED the song "Mind Games" when it came out & the album is pretty decent too. But i won't be forking out big money for the Super Deluxe Edition!!
Ordered the big expensive box…im already broke but, its John 😀❤️
I love Mind Games Last 35 years ✌️
Beautiful album. Excellent for me. I'm only dream to have the money to order the cd super deluxe set )
Hey Andrew! This video probably isn’t supposed to be available yet… besides that though, I love your content!
I have the American first edition and the CD. I'd love to get that box. Oh yeah! As a musician. As a Beatle lover. As a collector. As a reader. My God!!! ♪♪♪There's Lennon's on sale again♪♪♪ Can't wait.
Thanks for the info Andrew but as a 'careful' Yorkshireman I'll be just fine with my trusty budget reissue for now!
The very beginning of Mind Games sounds like the very beginning of the Whip Bird when it makes it distinctive sound ( to my ears!) which we have in Australia. Maybe he heard one when he was here in '64. Thanks as always to you, Andrew. Another great video. 🎸👌
Glad you enjoyed it, Robert! ✌️
It might sue the Lennon estate for copyright unless John asked permission.
After hearing a couple of the re-re-mixed tracks on Give me Some Truth box set, I am looking forward to the rest of the tracks, especially MEAT CITY!
Just listened to it, thx
Always loved this album and never understood why the critics panned it. It got me through tough times and sleepless nights. The "ballads" are great and the rockers are great. I also think it's pretty damn close to The Beatles. Loved McCartney's Ram and Red Rose Speedway in the same way.
2 CD set for me. Nice job on video, Andrew 👍
👍 Thanks Anthony!
@@Parlogram You're very welcome.
Sometimes I felt like the only person buying his albums in the seventies
Thank you.
Lennon proved in his solo years how much he needed a team of people like George Martin and McCartney to realize the bits he could not. I find his solo stuff half baked at best with the odd exception.
@@Neil-Aspinallbetter than McCartney’s cheese from the last 50 years. He truly needed Lennon
@@hw343434 Yes, the corporation was beneficial to all employees.
Meat City and the title track are my two faves.
Great video. I think the Beatles’ history is always fascinating. Can I confess that I am not a great fan of the solo works? I promise to start using my Tidal account to exploring these albums soon. Thanks, Andrew. You really keep this channel interesting.
Thank you, David!
'Meat city' is crap. But anyway, I don't get this obsession with "having to open the album with upbeat number". What kind of rule is that?
Hmmmm...Mind Games came out when I was in the 4th grade and I was weirded out by the single's picture sleeve and more so on the album jacket. I did enjoy it though and will probably just get the reissued vinyl double lp. Another good review Andrew
Glad you enjoyed it!
I dished out the 1350 for the super deluxe edition, and felt bad about it afterwards. But now I can't wait for it to arrive.
I’ve always like the Mind Games album. I bought it the day it was released and then the first cd , then the re-mastered version. I’ll get the 2 cd of the Ultimate mixes
"Mind Games" my favorite John's album
This was the first Lennon solo album I bought. It was on a day trip to London in 1978 with my older brother and I have very fond memories of this incredible album. Like all his work, it’s a bit uneven at times but I still love it. I’ve placed my order for the Super Deluxe Box because I think it looks like a work of art… and I can’t wait to hear the ultimate remixes.
Nothing uneven about Plastic Ono Band or his songs on Double fantasy
