    Imagine how fearless a 16 year old could be to write such a strong riposte to her critics. This concert was in June 2019 when Pau was 17. I assume she had written the song & composed it at least 5 - 6 months before premiering it at Foro Didi. Which makes her 16.
    The story goes that her mother was against them playing it in public when Pau showed her the 1st draft for grammar check in Spanish. So Pau toned down the vitriol a bit and we have what is surely one of the greatest retorts in rock history.
    Here is a link to a kind soul who had added English captions to the same video. When the lyrics make sense you will understand why Pau engage into theatrics with her left hand to drive home her point during certain phrases of the song.

    I think many of The Warning Army have been hoping that you would get to this one. Yep, I plug my ears and say "nanananananana". Lesson #1: don't anger Pau. Lesson #2: refer to Lesson #1.
    Yes, they had been getting criticism in Mexico for only writing in English. So they wrote a reply back to them in their native tongue.
    Thanks for coming back to these fantastic young women. They really are fantastic live--this song in particular. It seems like you would very much enjoy seeing them if you get the chance.

      Wow I didn't know that's what it meant and I'm loving it more than before. Haha Pau suits as this song's lead. Also I heard she wrote this one personally am I correct? Also the lyrics now feels more connecting me to them as they are brave enough to write this song to address the criticism and also about the modern society's attitude.

    Way to comment on today's issues, Rosalie. These women have no fear in them. They simply write songs that convey their thoughts on the world we live in. These strong and humble women are just what is needed to show the young girls and boys how to live life and treat others with respect. Long live Dany, Pau and Ale. Happy Dany Day!!! Peace.

    There have been at least two songs written about people who pissed Pau off (Animosity confirmed, I'm pretty sure Fade Away also is, and perhaps Escape The Mind).
    This demonstrates Dany's real brilliance on guitar. It's not so much the solo, which doesn't sound virtuosic, but her selection of guitar tone. She uses her guitar as a voice here, further emphasizing the mocking lyrics of the song. Pau's gesticulations add to it, and as if it weren't obvious enough, the lyrics on the video screen.
    They've had guests on this song a number of times. In Mexico City, her teacher Beto Ramos sat in on drums, letting her front the song; last fall, Arejay Hale also sat in on drums and added his own flair to it, and in 2020 Jay de la Cueva played a second guitar; the twin lead guitar attack gave it a unique sound.

  • @Indo1030

    Fantastic Reaction/commentary. You forgot to mention the Primary Lesson to be Learned: Do NOT piss off Pau! She’ll write a song about you ! (Also see ANIMOSITY)

  • @davuvnik
    @davuvnik ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I think they choose "Narcisista" because it was in the chorus, but the real name of the song is "Malinchista" which means hating your roots and your culture and trying to become foreigner. They are usually people of the upper class who believe they are better than the rest because they can speak English and have grown being in touch with a foreign culture, which usually is American.
    Narcissist in Spanish and not medical terms is just ta word that is thrown around for self-absorbed people, it's like calling someone crazy without actually diagnosing them... In here in Mexico, we are not so touchy when it comes to filtering language in order to insult, debate,or call out people. We say it as we see it.

  • @joelpinckney9782
    @joelpinckney9782 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Animosity is about one person. Imagine having that song hanging over your head.

    • @MrSudeepdas
      @MrSudeepdas ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Whatever you do never get on the wrong side of that pocket sized nuclear reactor behind the drums. When her childhood friend left her Pau came up with Animosity.
      "Alive means to be dead; A bullet to the head"
      "It's not me, it's you
      The one who never got a clue
      Drown in your guilt
      If karma doesn't hit you, then I will"
      Unbelievable metaphors from a 17 year old.
      Have been saying for a long time - her poetry alone is worth so many laurels.
      I sincerely hope that one day the music industry will acknowedge Pau's intellectualism.

    Dany is the oldest, Pau is two years younger, and Ale is three years younger than Pau, but Ale is the tallest.😆.
    Their mother helped them change the Spanish lyrics so they would make sense translated into English.

    • @Lionspel
      @Lionspel ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow this probably be awesome if translated to English but also retain the some notable Spanish like that part 'por favor' and the word 'narcisista' since it would be awkward if you just said Narcissist haha one syllable less. Or maybe they can do 'narcissistic' but that doesn't sound good compared to 'narcisista' with Pau's strong diction of this word.

    It's been said, these young ladies are wise beyond their years and it's been like this since they were writing their first original songs. Rosalie, this is a wonderful reaction. Your talk at the end of the song was beautifully laid out. You went above and beyond to really explain the song for us non-Spanish speakers, and gave us food for thought. I liked your balanced, reasonable reaction to both the band and their self-appointed critics. Special thanks for explaining the Spanish term "malinchistas" (I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong, LOL). You have a lot to say, Rosalie. God bless you.

    Rosalie being on of the OG’s of TWA you are one of my Fav Reactors ! Your explanation on Narcisista was dead on ! Here is the issue that I know for a fact ! In MTY the old Rockers especially Metal Hears in MTY are 90% males the strong resentment they are all females ( siblings ) just haters and jealous of all attention DPA are getting also coming from a upper Class family it’s a MTY to make my point they are beloved at CDMX ! Rosalie it’s important that you see all the songs done a Teatro Metropolitano mind blowing filmed concert ! Thank you for posting such an excellent reaction to a song that opened the door to a deep and important series of topics - all of which are addressed in various songs by The Warning, interestingly enough. Your analysis with reference to social media prompts me to urge you to review their Disciple - either official music video or recently released pro-shot video of their concert at Metropolitan Theatre, Mexico City on 29th August 2022. The former explains the context of this song through intelligent storytelling while the latter shows us their impressive techniques as great musicians. Probably you can watch both first & then decide.
    Its Pau's take on the effect of social media on us - the disciples. She got the idea while shopping in a supermarket in Canada in 2019. She came back home, composed the entire song on her piano including the bass intro & then called her sisters. Incredible intellectualism from a 17 year old.

    I came across them with this song. And was blown away! By a singing drummer. By her powerful voice....
    Got the meaning, although my spanish is just brilliant enough to say: "yo no hablo espanol."
    Ale is the youngest. She just turned 18, a few weeks ago.
    These girls play hard rock like they just invented that genre. They could wipe up the floor with many well-etablished bands, today.
    A well-established band (here in Germany) that I still like are Pothead from Berlin.

    The way i interpreted the song is.... They are from Monterrey Mexico, and studied in a Catholic school. Very conservative families and society in general in Monterey. They started playing rock music from young age in school festivals. This is a response to those conservative parents, families or teachers who criticized them for playing such music, hence the line "they say to pray for me" .
    .i think people they were surrounded by thought these kids were signing and playing Demonic songs.
    "Your good intentions always come off as surplus to requirements!
    Don't think you're fooling me with that disguise." This line could be about one of those nuns (teachers) at their Catholic school.
    This is my interpretation because i lived in another state of Mexico where society was very conservative, similar to Monterey. People were often talking about my family. Gossiping about everything. Since it was a small city, after a couple days, everybody knew and believed the gossips.
    I could relate from the first time I heard this song.

    As an English-only speaker I have never felt the need to break down the lyrics in English for this or Martirio.
    We as a species, over time, have developed the ability to read non-verbal cues both consciously and sub-consciously.
    These cues, for the most part, transcend language and culture.
    I “get” what both songs are about but I also experience them more in a musical and compositional sense than lyrically. That’s good enough for me.

    Another great song! I am a survivor of abuse by someone with Narcissistic PD that I was in a long-term relationship with. I agree that sometimes the term is used loosely and that can be problematic. And also that people who are narcissistic often point the finger and call those they are abusing narcissists, or crazy. They sort of set you up and try to poison the water so that friends turn on you and you have no support system. So I feel like this song, kind of fighting back against that sort of gaslighting, can be powerful. Thanks for the breakdown of it!

    Very true! However, such a concept has also been taken hostage or re-substantiated by powerful cultures that it is VERY important to understand it according to its local use or context. Mexican Spanish seems to throw the word quite indiscriminately, I'd like to know their more general connotation of the concept.

      En México la mayoría de sus críticos se referían a que ellas provienen de una clase alta (socialmente hablando), por lo que debido a eso han llegado hasta donde están y debido a eso prefieren hablar en inglés que en español, por eso las tratan como egocéntricas, de ahí el término Narcisista; también se refieren al término Malinchista como aquellas personas que prefieren las cosas de origen extranjero y no las de su propio país.(En este caso el cantar en inglés más que en español). saludos

    The irony of this song is that they were being called malinchistas (cultural traitors) for not singing in Spanish. But the word malinchista comes from the woman named La Malinche, the girlfriend of the conquistador Hernan Cortés, who is said to have betrayed her indigineous people by consorting with the Spaniards. Spanish is the language of the conquerors.

    The forest time I heard this song. I just love the song and how it was sang without thinking or knowing the meaning of the lyrics aside from the word Narcisista which probably talking about a narcissistic person or behavior. But now that you explained it. I'm loving it even more because it's genius lyrics that addresses modern societal problems which we can see how DPA were already aware of it at such a young age. If they create more of this kind of lyrics, they would be the future of Rock music. And now it's starting with many are recognizing them and they are touring nonstop amd creating their latest album Error which had too many songs with pure political and societal lyrics.

    Rosalie, thank you so much for your reaction and comments about inclusiveness. I love watching people’s reaction to this song to hear them say how “bad ass” these girls are for putting out this middle finger of a song to those haters. But I haven’t heard a reactor speak so eloquently about the topic of inclusiveness and about mental health. I love this aspect of what their song means to people. I’ll take it one step further to diversity as a whole. We’re at a place in human development that we should all be more tolerant to all ages, races, languages, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc. There are too many haters out there still. Thank you Rosalie. I appreciate you.

I am really blown away with yhe talent that you find around the world ❤❤ Rosalie, if you would go check out Dax's new song, To Be a Man ❤ If you don't react to it, at least read the comments. You don't have to understand Spanish to get what Pau is expressing - that hand and finger waving gets the point across. AND do NOT piss Pau off - she'll write a song about you.

    Dany is the oldest, born in 2000. Pau is the middle, born in 2002. Ale is the youngest, born in 2004. Pau has the fire, the spunk, and the assertiveness. Like she wants to take over the world. I’d read that this was a response to the first record label that tried to sign them. But first, the label wanted them to change a couple of things… Which immediately made the sisters to be resentful. Na na na na na na na! The other superstar sister rockers, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, wrote a similar condemnation of a record companies, called “Barracuda”. I guess you could say that Dany, Pau, Ale, Ann, and Nancy, are all trailblazing sisters, half a century apart…. Great insights, Rosalie!

    Don't make Pau mad. She'll write a song about you, and you will live the rest of your life in shame. 😋🤘🤘
    To get a little more serious: I think there are two reasons _The Warning_ does most of their music in English.
    First, like it or not, English is the modern "International Language". It's the most taught "second language" in the world, is used in business and social media, every airline pilot and air traffic controller world wide speaks English over their radio communications. If you want to have a world-wide appeal, you do English. That's just the way it is. The second reason is a tad more prosaic, and that is the fact it's *easier* for a native Spanish speaker to write songs in English rather than Spanish. English is a mish-mash of several different languages, and does not have as many hard-and-fast grammatical rules that need to be followed carefully to make a phrase or sentence make sense. In a way, the "Pirate Language" is more free-flowing and easily poetical than many others. Obviously it can be done in other languages; there are epic poems in Spanish, Italian, French, and so on. But in a lot of ways, English is just... flexible.
    Those criticizing the young ladies are just full of it. It's not like rock/metal music fans criticize _The Scorpions_ for not singing in German, and it's not like they don't embrace tunes in other languages - look at the popularity of, say, _Rammstein_ , who of course do the overwhelming majority of their work in German. The mere fact this song, "Narcisista" is so popular, to say nothing of "Martirio", gives lie to the naysayers this song is addressing.
    *Music* is the language. I think we all understand that.
